Is anyone having surgery in October. I've got my date it's October 3rd. Feeling a little anxious and worried about the pain. Do you come home if you are still in pain? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello all! I'm a lurker/rare poster here for the last 6 months or so. And I just got approved for surgery! Surgery date is October 17th! I'm so excited. Any tips on things to do ahead of time? I've started ordering all kinds of samples of protein shakes and stocking up on vitamins. I have samples of 310 Shake, Unjury, and some ready to mix shake from the Bariatric pal store. Anyone know of any other place I can get samples from? I just want to stock up on samples both so I'll have some for after surgery and so I can find some I'll like.

Hello All, Very new here. I've been doing a lot of reading and research for VSG. My parents are moving to Cuenca, Ecuador in the next couple months. I'm interested in having my surgery there and recover for a few months. Has anyone had surgery there? Can you tell me about or recommend doctors there? Any info will help thanks Thanks!! I am an insurance dummy. My doctors office basically told me what I would need to know about but now I'm wondering what I may have to pay at the time of the surgery. I have almost met my deductible but I know I haven't met my oop for the year. Will I have to pay what's left before my surgery? If so I am totally screwed. I am putting away my summer clothes and bathing suits hoping I will never wear them again! I can't bring myself to get rid of them yet - I guess I still have my doubts about surgery happening (still waiting for a date) and my success. :-( What are others doing with summer clothes you hope will be way too big by next year?

My surgery has finally been scheduled and I go for a 2 hour nurse education and final weigh in on Wednesday (09-07). I was told that even a 2lb weight gain since my last visit will cause my surgery to be cancelled. I started a liquid diet this past Wednesday and the scales aren't budging. This is the week before my period is due and I always put on 4-6 pounds of Water weight. I've been working toward gastric bypass surgery since last December as my insurance company has a list of requirements as long as my arm. I'm terrified that my surgery is going to be cancelled. I'm an emotional wreck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Anyone have advice? I've fallen into a rut of chicken breasts and salad. And started eating too much junk food.. I need to get my act together. I still have another month at least before I get my surgery date but I want to try to lose as much as I can before then. I'm just dealing with a lot of emotional crap which makes my eating habits take a dive. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

While I'm pretty sure my doc did great in surgery (everything seems to work so far) and she is super up-beat and happy, there were a few small details she left out of the pre-op overview. My doc did not mention that I couldn't have ANYthing post-op of the day of surgery - no Water, no ice chips, nada. I was so thankful someone had mention Biotene mouth rinse as it was a life saver. She did not say, "where we take out your port (I was lap-band to bypass revision) is going to be really sore for probably 4 weeks. You might want to a) be mentally prepared for that and buy an abdominal binder. There was no offer of a block of any sort. The first time I stood up, I thought s…

Does anyone, who may have attended these classes, have any info they would like to share on some of the things they may have learned in class? I would really appreciate it. Plus my head keeps playing games telling me you know you want a juicy cheeseburger or pizza one LAST time!! It's horrible!! Try to distract myself and I end up going to bed early and tell myself I will cheat tomorrow just to silence the thoughts in my head!! Mind games start in evening cuz i do fine during the day. Tuesday was the day for me. Doc said everything went well and I now have a nice little banana stomach. I do have to say that the drain was my biggest source of pain!! It made movement impossible without major pain. When they would "milk" it I felt like I was going to pass out. On Wednesday afternoon they started talking about releasing me but I was worried about all the pain on the drain side. My nurse said that once it is removed most if not all the pain will go away. When they took out the drain it was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. .....possibly more than child birth. Once the devil drain was gone I had no pain other than a little pulling. While that dra…

  19. I started my pre-op diet on August 31st. I have cut all carbs out of my diet and am having a Protein shake for Breakfast or 2 scrambled eggs. I am then having a small cup of Greek yogurt for a mid morning snack. lunch consists of green Beans. Then another Protein Shake for an afternoon snack. dinner is a protein and a salad. I am eating sugar free popsicles like they are going out of style...but these are on menu for after my surgery so I thought they would be okay for before the surgery. My surgeon just called today and said I was approved and that there was a cancellation so my surgery can be scheduled for August 7th! I said that that would be great! But now I'm wondering if it's too soon! I read again in The Big Book on Gastric Bypass that the presurgery diet needs to be followed for a 300 pound person so that they use 15-30 pounds! If I follow the diet to a T, I won't be able to lose that much! Do you think this is ok? I mean, my surgeon obviously does and he got 5 out of 5 stars. So idk what to do

Hi all, So at first my BMI was only 39 with no health issues. Today I met with my psychologist to find out that my treatment in this department could effect my chances for qualifying. Been being treated for depression and anxiety since 2012. Dad diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Battled that with him for 9 months. Lost him in July 2013. In MAY of 2014 my mother-in-law diagnosed with ovarian cancer that then went on to spread throughout her body. She lost her battle on May 30 2016. Been on meds and having therapy to help me deal with all this. To think this could stop me from getting WLS is so unfair. I'm trying to make me the healthiest me I can be. Sent from …

I have struggled with weight fluctuations my entire life. Been "dieting" since I was 12. I had the band in 2011 and it did not work for me. I had issues and it was removed last year. I gave it a lot of thought and started the journey with the sleeve. Now surgery is scheduled 9/19. I know this is an aid, not a solution. I know it's a lifestyle change not a diet. I've done all the required work twice now. Still I can't stop thinking of all the attempts through my life. All the self sabotages. Even with the band... I can't eat stuff it makes me sick... Well these cheese curls melt in my mouth and are tolerable so they are my new best friend. How can I break the cycle? …

Why does it take so long from first appointment to surgery day? Can't all these tests be done within a couple of weeks? Papers don't go to insurance until all requirements have been met. Obviously, if you have a very high BMI and all the health issues that come along with it you need this surgery. What's with the proof of other methods tried? Yeah, I had a gym membership. Could t go anymore because it was just to damn painful (back and knee issues) but how do I PROVE that I actually showed up? So I bounced between looking at Mexico for surgery. Then decided I'd rather stay in Canada since I was self-pay and looked all over for a place. The only surgeon I found was in Montreal which is far from home. Lots more searching then off to my GP to talk with her about it. I'm reluctant to have it elsewhere as it's difficult to have follow-up if I go out of province, or country. My GP felt I should stay here and get it done at no cost (I just don't want the LONG wait). So in the end I had no choice - I had to go through the Adult Bariatric Clinic here and I'm slogging through all the initial lessons before I can submit them and then get an appointment to take this…

My surgery was scheduled for May 4th and I found out today my insurance (UHC) denied the authorization stating that I did not meet the qualifications because I did not have three qualifying health conditions. My insurance only requires me to have a BMI over 40 (mine is 42) to qualify OR a BMI over 35 and under 40 with three qualifying health conditions. I am so frustrated. How do I appeal the denial? Now that I'm over 2 years post op, I find that there is one reference I still find myself going to. On YouTube there is an awesome show from the UK called Fat Doctor. This is REAL stuff. There are a few sleeve cases but mostly bypass. However, the struggles and the lifestyle changes are the same. I've gained some weight in the past months and working to get it back off.
