This is probably a strange question but I am trying to imagine how it will physically feel with 85% of my stomach gone. Setting aside the pain the first week post op, can you tell that it had been removed? I don't know, I think I may be over thinking this and the anticipation is getting the best of me. I had my final pcp visit for my surgical clearance this week. When my phone rang today I expected it to be the call with my date when I saw the surgeon's number. Instead they said I had to fax more paperwork. I did that this morning, so I am hoping for an approval soon. My surgery is supposed to be in September and now I am worried that I may not be approved. I hate the wait...and the weight. Haha

I have been lurking on the site for the last few months as I have been researching the gastric sleeve procedure. Now that I met with my surgeon and have jumped through all the hoops to submit to insurance, I thought I would officially join the forums. I have Wellmark insurance and know of several people in the company that I work for who have been approved so I am hoping that I will too. It has been interesting going through this journey already. I have completed the three month dietary monitoring with the nutritionist and psych eval. I was really fortunate to have a therapist who was a year out from surgery from the same doctor I am going to so he had some great adv…

I received my surgery date (9/20) and all of a sudden, I'm freaking out. Is this the right thing for me? I've tried diets, and exercise but I don't know how dedicated I was to it. Hi everyone! I am new here. My name is Lacee and I am an over-sharer. Yep, I am a big mouth, in real life and on Facebook (I have over 600 FB friends) I am an extreme extrovert who just tells everyone everything. I don't usually worry about how they will take what I say, they are free to avoid me in the future or unfriend me on Facebook or whatever. I have been thinking about/researching WLS for a couple of years. For a while I was just under 40 BMI and really don't have any co-morbid issues so I was told my insurance would not pay. My husband and I discussed self-pay but decided to think about it and research more. Now, since I haven't even been trying to lose weight …

Hello all! I am going to my first informational meeting for weight loss surgery, and have been doing some early research on my own. I was wondering, what made you all choose the RNY surgery for yourselves, as opposed to the gastric sleeve? I'm just considering the pros and cons of both, so any input you all have regarding your own decisions would be very helpful..... Thanks!

I am on the pre op diet now. But as things progress into the different stages I know I will have to fight my family members off my food. They will eat anything and everything. We have a lot of fend for yourself days in our house when food gets low. When there is no primary food left, they will set eyes on my diet food. Once thats gone they move on to whatever food shows up. Which is usually something I can't eat. So now they have eaten all MY food, and then they find other food that I cant eat. Now and I am thrown off my dietary plans. And its either dont eat, or eat things Iam not supposed to.They are doing it now and I am only on pre op. Lucky me they can't drink the R…

So I have been really trying hard to do low carb to get these 15 pounds off, so insurance will pay for my surgery. I don't have a scale but went to my mom's to weigh myself and the scale says the same weight as I was before I started the low carb diet. My clothes feel loser, I feel better and my mom says I look a lot more alert. I have been eating, chicken breast, cheese, premier Protein shakes, stir fry with cauliflower rice. I don't get it. I am able to move a lot better too. Just don't understand why the scale isn't moving. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App

I haven't scheduled my surgery yet (they won't let me until I get proof from 2 doctors that I've been obese the past 2 years ) but my mom said she met a lady this morning that got the sleeve and regretted it. The lady said that if you go in with bad eating habits, nothing will change. This freaked me out because well obviously I have bad eating habits. That's why I'm doing this lol...any tips or suggestions on major steps to take pre-op to prepare myself for what's to come? Really the last thing I want to do is regret this and I don't think I will, but it's discouraging to learn that someone wasn't happy afterward. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am scared to death of making the appt. everytime I think of giving up popcorn, pizza, lobster, and anything else that tastes good and is not good for you I panic and tell myself I can't do this!!! Hello Everyone! So I'm really excited about having my surgery! Already saw the surgeon, met with the psychologist! Up to now I was set on having the sleeve, until I began to speak to more people about having the bypass! Everyone that I know that has gotten the bypass has kept the weight off and is doing AMAZING! The people I know who have the sleeve have gained back about 40-50lbs! I'm indecisive! I don't know what to do! I'm kind of in limbo right now as to what surgery to get! Give me some insight please! Has anyone else gone through this? Thanks, Jess Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I dont have much family and friends here to support me in this. My teenage sons are oblivious. My mother nit pics and mostly just works my nerves. I dont have a boyfriend. However I have a guy friend who is taking me on surgery day. But it would be unfair to expect him to rearrange his life to look out for me long term. And I'm just wondering how am I gonna do this without the support I'd like from those around me. Any ideas? Sent while fleeing from naughty food.

So far I've had a physical, an echocardiogram, a psych evaluation, and blood draws for thyroid. I have a lung function test tomorrow, then a gall bladder ultrasound Friday and an endoscopy and drug screening next week. I'm starting to feel like a lab rat, lol. My BMI is 37 and I have no serious co morbidities. I know it's better safe than sorry but I'm just wondering if everyone had so many tests?

Hello all! After 6 months dr's visit and fulfilling all additional insurance requirements I'm happy to say that my insurance has approved my surgery (vsg & gallbladder removal)...but, I'm seriously concerned about the preop diet and here's why: (bare with me, many details to come lol) Okay, sooo, my last appt for my insurance (conifer) required 6 month dr visit was just this past Monday (aug 22) and I was told on that appt that they will be turning in my entire chart to my case manager from conifer (my ins) that very same day. A few weeks ago I got the insurance approval from Cigna and my doctor said a surgery date for October 17th of this year was approximately is about 52 days from now... Yesterday, much to my surprise, I got a call from my doctor saying that there was a cancellation and that they were wondering if I wanted to move my surgery date up to September 19th of this year which is 23 days from now... I had a moment where I got really nervous and fearful and a little panicky going from 52 days to 23 days and 10 seconds is quite a lot to prepare yourself for dot dot dot worrying about my bills and the time off from work and this and that took me by surprise... And then I took a deep br…

Im new here and am meeting with my surgeon next friday to start my preop testing and go over insurance requirements. My PCP is against wls. He said he would rather put me on anti depressants or some kind of insulin shots for at least 6 months to try to curb my appetite. I'm not depressed and am not willing to try his suggestions because I've been obese for 12 years (BMI is 45) . The time for "trying things" is over. My bariatric program said that they will write the letter of medical necessity and I didn't see anything in my insurance requirements about having my PCPs permission for surgery. Hey all, I am three months in to my nine-month physician supervised diet. I decided to lower the amount of carbs I have been eating (not even super low, I try to keep it around 100 per day) Anyway, I have noticed that I have had a lot of trouble falling asleep lately. I mentioned it at work, and one of my co-workers said "oh yeah, that's because you cut carbs!" I looked it up, and it seems this isn't an unusual thing. Has anyone else dealt with this, and how did you handle it? Does it stop eventually? I am tired of being tired.

Today, one of our soldiers had his 19th birthday. Since he is far from home, our clinic bought him a birthday cake. I LOVE BIRTHDAY CAKE! White bday and wedding cake are my favorite desserts. I won't have surgery until November but I'm already on a high protein/low carb diet. I've actually already lost all the weight I'm supposed to lose before surgery, so technically I could eat a small piece without sabotaging my weight loss goals. HOWEVER, I haven't had any sugar since August 1st, so I passed on it. Small pieces, bites, licks and tastes got me to where I am today, needing WLS. It wasn't easy! I really, REALLY wanted a piece! My final pcp and clearance appointment is tomorrow so anxiety is high. When my anxiety is high I bake. I am working on not doingthat, but today I failed. I made my aaaaahhhmazing double chocolate fudge brownies. I did take 3 small bites of batter. I baked it. When it was done, I cut a piece. I took a bite then realized I didn't really want it. I just was looking for the comfort. Then I proceeded to dump the whole pan of brownies down the disposal. I felt bad for wasting food but that junk food is not good for any of us in this house.
