Happy Saturday everyone! So, my insurance is going to be covering the surgery (once approved) and now I'm sitting here wondering what the grocery shopping bill will be like for me. What is the average epic that you all spend on necessities for this surgery? Protein shakes, Vitamins Etc. I know this kind of seems like an odd question, but I don't want to going to sticker shock right after surgery LOL Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

So, tomorrow is my big day. I have been thinking a great deal about my dysfunctional lifelong relationship with food and struggle with my weight. I am extremely happy about having taken this step, but approach tomorrow with great trepidation, mixed with a significant amount of relief. My surgery will be on an outpatient basis. Today is actually the first day that I am fasting, as my (highly experienced) surgeon does not espouse the two week pre-op fast. I just pray that everything goes well, that there are no complications and that I do not experience excessive nausea or pain. Your encouragement, suggestions and recommendations would be most welcome. I am glad that I …

So Yay! I just got my surgery date for Sept 21st today But Boooo! After having not smoked for 2 months I smoked an entire pack yesterday... My pre-op testing is on September 12th... Does anyone know what kind of test they will do (blood, saliva, urine?) and if I will be able to pass it? If it matters I am having my surgery at University Hospital in NE Ohio...

She asked me what insurance I have which I expected) when I told her metropolis she let me know it's only 2-3 months.Im sooooo excited I don't know what to do.. Praying everything goes well.. All of my paperwork was submitted Friday to United. Surgery will hopefully be end of August early September. All depends how long I have to play the waiting game with insurance. I've heard many people say that right after surgery, they have a hard time getting in their Protein drinks and Water. May I ask why? Are you full after a couples of sips? Is it painful? Are you nauseated? Preparing myself for reality.

Hi guys, I'm all the way in Australia and have been living here for a year already.I'm scheduled to have my sleeve this September and I'm really struggling as to whether I need to postpone it or do it on the due date.I'm doing this by myself and have scheduled ongoing help with the psychiatrist and psychologist (I have depression and anxiety).I also have a very stressful job and so the due date was set around school holidays as well. I would appreciate any advice you can offer,I'm very confused with all this and my mother back home in South Africa is against my due date. Thank you! Hey everyone! I'm new here, and this is my first post. I'm just starting the process and hoping to get sleeved in December. I joined weight watchers as a part of my weight management. I met the leader today and told her why I was there. I was worried what she might say because I've read how some have experienced negative comments about WLS at WW meetings. It was just the opposite! She was supportive and told me that WLS can be a good tool, and she has several people that come who have had surgery as well. She said I can keep that confidential if I like, and with WLS and WW together, people have had great results. I was just so happy for the positive experience with her. D…

Great Afternoon! I went into this process thinking it would take months to complete. It has been surprisingly easy and now that my file will be submitted to the insurance company for approval Monday, I'm getting anxious. My procedure could be done as early as the first week of September. I plan to buy all the shakes, broth, and Jello, ect. this week. I am going to start my liquid diet next week. I don't have any local support during this process as I haven't told anyone that I've decided to do it. I also have to have a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time(adding to my anxiety). I will be relying heavily on this app to connect with like minded people. Good luck everyone…

Good Evening Folks. First post on this site, but I have certainly read MANY and I appreciate everyone's candid experiences and posts. I have been overweight since puberty. Since the birth of my children and, well, due to life...I have gained way more than I am proud of. I have tried so many diets and work outs and see little success and darnit...I LOVE TO EAT. But my mother died at 63. She had heart disease, diabetes, Hashimotos, high blood pressure, and cancer of an unknown origin. She was a completely different person for the last 7 years of her life and no medical professional could give us any reason. Her personality did a 180, she could barely walk, her spee…

Hey guys! I have been reading around for a while but this is my first post. I am wondering if anyone else has been having this issue? I'm suppose to have 5 ensures per day and after each one I have diarrhea. It's been like this for 5 days now. I'm just so annoyed by it and feel like it's probably not great for my body. Does anyone have any tips or anything? Is this just something I have to deal with until my surgery on September 23? Thanks guys! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I received a packet in the mail today from my surgeons office. Which had new pt application, an arbitrary agreement, as well as estimate for surgery deposit. (Long sigh) I know it could be a lot worse. Seeing as some have to visit Mexico to pay way more than I. I'm very grateful that my insurance covers the procedure, now I just have to come up with ways to pay $489.00, plus the other things I have left to do. ( 3 more NUT visits, sleep study, EDG, chest X-ray. I'm super excited and nervous at the same time. It's starting to feel real. Especially since I will be mailing checks to my surgeon now. Hoping that the sleep study and EDG folks will let me make monthly paym…

Surgery Thursday, I have only Clear liquids tomorrow. Do the Syntrax nectar Protein drinks count as clear liquid?? Crystal Light counts as clear liquid for my surgeon, even though you can't completely see through it. Syntrax Nectar you can't see through as well, and it has protein as well.....does the protein negate this from being a clear liquid? Hi everyone! So I'm slightly freaking out as last night I started to get the scratchy throat that usually means I'm getting sick. Last night I drank some Water with Braggs Apple Cider vinegar (so gross) and it seemed to help a little, but my question is this... I'm on day six of pre-op liquid diet and I've been very good, but I really need to use some honey in my tea as I think it will help. Think this is okay? I'll call the doctor tomorrow if I'm still feeling scratchy and go from there as I'm a week out from surgery...but I know we're supposed to avoid sugar. However, I know that honey really helps. Any thoughts?

Has this happened to anyone? I still have 3 months (October) until I will be done with my supervised diet. However, when I had my last visit I had gained 3 pounds. My Nut made me scared and told me that if I keep gaining, they'd deny my surgery. That of course terrified me. My reason for getting this surgery is because no matter how hard I try, I cannot lose more than 10-15 pounds before gaining them all back. I have been like this my whole life. It's gotten to the point where even my PCP thinks this is the best route for me. I cannot afford to not be able to have this surgery. Now before someone tells me what to do to help lose... I've literally tried every…

Heyy everyone!! Soo I just called my doctor of choice's facility yesterday to have their insurance specialists call my insurance to see is the gastric sleeve procedure would be covered under my insurance. They said it would be covered 100% at NO cost to me!!! Needless to say I was beyond excited, as I have been thinking about this for years, and just haven't had good enough insurance to cover it. I've already been evaluated by the doctor, when I first tried to start the process in 2015. So now I'm scheduled for a pre-op visit with the dietitian on 9/1, and I'm just wondering how long the process usually is?? I know I also need to eventually see the psychiatrist as we…

I've had some stomach issues for the past 2 weeks and I went in to a gastroenterologist today and they think I may have an ulcer. I'm concerned with how this will affect my plans for surgery. Did anyone else have ulcers before surgery? If so, what happened after the surgery? I'm terrified this is going to make my surgeon not want to do this, although I haven't been able to speak to him and have no idea. Any experiences?

Hi. This is my first post. I had my consult with my doc 8/1. Have most of my other appointments scheduled already. My insurance doesn't require a waiting period just a BMI over 35. I'm 5'4 and weigh 304. I'm still unsure if I want to have the surgery. The risks make me nervous but i desire so badly to be healthy and thin. My hubby is so very supportive but all other family members are not supportive and don't want me to have the surgery. Not sure what I should do. Hello! I've been lurking for a while and appreciate all the topics and experiences you all have been discussing. Has anyone had the sleeve done at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center? I just had my psych eval (I "passed," lol) and am waiting for my first round of appts at the Center to be scheduled. They won't give info about how long the pre surgery liquid diet is or what they require after surgery until the next set of appts. Hello everyone, Today my doctor's office called to tell me that other than the Adult Bariatric Centres in the major cities in my province, there are no self-pay options. The bariatric centres are the long wait programs, dieting, psyche, etc. And about a 3 year wait. So - I'm back to the surgeon I originally was researching (a member on here told me about him and had her surgery by him recently). Dr. Michel Gagner in Montreal. For those that have read my other posts, he's a long way away from home, so added cost of flights for me and my husband, and several nights in hotel. But that isn't the real concern - it's the after-care that is, and to be frank, the befo…
