Being denied due to weight gain...

Has this happened to anyone?

I still have 3 months (October) until I will be done with my supervised diet. However, when I had my last visit I had gained 3 pounds. My Nut made me scared and told me that if I keep gaining, they'd deny my surgery.

That of course terrified me. My reason for getting this surgery is because no matter how hard I try, I cannot lose more than 10-15 pounds before gaining them all back. I have been like this my whole life. It's gotten to the point where even my PCP thinks this is the best route for me.

I cannot afford to not be able to have this surgery.

Now before someone tells me what to do to help lose... I've literally tried everything.

-I've cut out all sodas.

-no sugary foods

-limited carb intake.

-weight watchers

-slim 4 life.

-etc.

Idk what to do. I'm scared. And just stressing over stuff I may not be able to control.

@@Mysticpink74 did your surgeon require you to lose weight though? Mine doesn't require weight loss to happen

I've been exactly where you are. My insurance changed its requirements literally the day before my surgeons office submitted my paperwork. So when I should have been through I had to prolong the surgery even more and do 3 months with a dietitian.

Now this is just me...I'm weird like this, but every month I went back to the dietitian I had gained weight. It literally made no sense because I was doing what they told me. They said only drink water, I did. Eat more greens, I did. Exercise, I did. Replace meals with protein shakes,I did. Eat three protein rich meals a day, I did. You get the picture. My last visit and she says to me "what are you doing different? You're gaining" I said I'm doing what you told me...what everyone says you're supposed to do. Needless to say I left that day in a funk, I was sure insurance was going to make me do another 3 months...I worried for nothing. 3 days later I was approved. I know everyone's insurance is not the same, but if I were you I'd just stay positive about it. And don't beat yourself up over gaining. After my last visit I stopped following the way the dietitian told me to eat(meaning I started having juice and eating less than 3 meals ) and I lost pounds...not advocating that everyone, I'm just telling my story.

Anyways good luck to you,I'm sure everything will go through fine.

Are you tracking EVERYTHING you out in your mouth? Are you keeping your macros under control? My fitness pal is a great, free app to help with this. Ask your nutrition counselor to suggest the proper percentage you need to be at. I believe you when you say you ate struggling....me too! I have literally found and lost the same 2-3 for a month now.

I lost 10 pounds. My nut is super happy. I have been using my fitness pal for a year now and put everything, and I mean everything, down. I'm just not going to stress it.

I'm waiting on my insurance to approve my surgery I done everything but like you had problems with gaining and taking off weight. Yes they can deny your surgery if you keep gaining they will actually add on another 3 mos. To your 6 mos. Diet and weight loss journey. I see all that you tried and that's good stay away from the sodas but also you must work out and walk I went from 378 to 312 just by doing so. Staying focus the body burns fat so you can do it keep trying and stay the course.

  • 1 month later...

One thing that helped me is I also suffer from depression my dr put me on Zoloft for it it took away my need to want to eat a lot unfortunately It made me really sick to my stomach so they switched my meds but I know other people who r on Zoloft for depression and have had less of a need to want to eat and lost weight.

Not all insurance deny surgery due to weight gain. That's one thing I've learned during researching. UHC doesn't deny if you have weight gain. Luckily! But I don't drink soda. Haven't in over a year. So I'm pretty excited. My issue is my thyroid. But that's okay. This is going to happen regardless.
