Concern about surgery

Is anyone having surgery in October. I've got my date it's October 3rd. Feeling a little anxious and worried about the pain. Do you come home if you are still in pain?

  • I had my surgery on May 16th.....try not to worry about the pain. Although everyone is different, once I came home I never needed to take any pain meds......Just go into it with a positive attitude.

  • What a message, man. You are awesome. My surgery just got scheduled for September 28. I'm going to read what you wrote every day between now and then to remind me to take a breath and be happy that

@4ukay,

Unless you are in severe pain and/or there is something wrong, you will be sent home long before your surgery wounds have healed completely…which means there is potential for pain. Some patients get lucky and do not have much pain. Others have more pain. Most surgeons are quite willing to prescribe pain medications.

You can try to help yourself out by losing as much weight as you can before surgery. Also, you can get into the habit of walking if your doctor allows it. Walking can be a really good way not only to make yourself a little healthier before surgery so recovery is easier, but also to help manage pain after surgery, even in the hospital or right when you get home.

I know it’s hard, but try not to worry about it. Whatever happens with the pain, you will get through it.
