It's come to the point of my journey where I'm close to having a date, therefore I will have to inform my place of employment I will be having to take a few weeks off of work. I know they don't have to know what I get done, but I'm more curious about what everyone has told their co-workers who have asked why you are going to take so much time off? I have some co workers who I'm friends with at work, but not outside of work, and I have no idea what I should say when they ask me! I don't want to be rude and say "its none of your business" or make them suspicious by saying "well it's really personal" Also, I'm not self conscious about what I'm getting done, I just don't wa…

I hear of everyone talking about their pre-op diets. I know my mom was on one for like 4 weeks before her surgery but I was just told not to go crazy the week before and to not eat from midnight the night before. Is this normal!?

I got my lap band put in a little over a year ago. I wish I would have never gotten it. Lap band seems to be for those that have a problem with the AMOUNT of food they eat + the type of foods they eat. I never had a problem with the amount of food I eat. I don't eat alot. It is just the foods I choose to eat and me being sedentary. I love Protein and meat, and now I can't even eat that! No matter how small the bites and how much I chew... it won't go down. For some reason I have gone back to Stage 2 foods without meat. And it drives me crazy! I want to eat some chicken or a pork chop without it getting stuck!!! Even turkey burger would be great!!! UGH! SO frustrat…

Hello it has been a long time since I have been on here or on Fitness Pal. I have sort of given up. I eat everything in moderation, I have not exercised in a lonnnnngggg while. I have been banded since March 8,2013. I have not gained nor have I lost anymore. But I have lost in inches, it shows in all of my clothes. I eat more than I should, i just feel hungry after eating 1 cup which is what they say I should be eating.I drink lots of Water trying to get rid of the hungry feeling. I don't want to give up, I want to reach my goal weight. I just need to quit making excuses and JUST DO IT, I DID NOT GO THROUGH THIS SURGERY FOR NOTHING! I so want to get to onederland! Any adv…

Anyone else feel like my fitness pal gives you way too much credit for calories burned?? It says I burn about 800 during an hour of Zumba....I feel like that's too high. It also says I burn about 700 during a 30 minute run. Too much???

Anyone have any helpful tips for me or let me know what to expect? Since being banded on 11/7 I have lost 20 pounds and am able to eat anything. I don't eat nearly as much as I used to, but I have no problems with any food and no restriction. Would like to have at least a little restriction. I am starting an exercise program on Wednesday (T25) so I can start toning before I lose any more.

Hi! I had my lap band removed on Monday Sept 16th and it is now Wed morning. I had immediate relief from the symptoms I was experiencing in my throat (like a tennis ball was stuck in there). The surgery was easy! I was given an anti-inflammatory and nausea meds in my IV, but didn't need pain meds for several hours. I felt good enough after surgery to go home, but spent the night because the hospital and my surgeon are an hour away from home. I wanted to stay close by in case any problem came up. I was on clear liquids from the time of surgery until I went home. Now I can eat soft foods for 1 to 2 weeks and progress as I feel is right. My surgeon wants me to walk 5 ti…

Hello, I have been looking out here waiting for a fellow Minnesotan to post something, but I guess I'll do it first to see if there is anyone out there. I know you are out there, just like me, wanting to connect with someone a little closer to home. I'll be banded on Oct. 8th at HCMC by Dr. Lederer and I am really getting excited and nervous all at the same time. I start my 2 week liquid diet next Monday and I am terrified. I know I can do it, at least that is what I keep telling myself. I am so ready to lose this extra baggage I have been carrying around for all these years. I am 5'11 and 316lbs with a bmi of around 44. I'm ready to be healthy and be able to fit…

I had surgery almost 5 years ago, lost 80 total pounds and kept 70 off for over 3 years. However last fall due to stress I had to have band completely unfilled and gained 50 lbs back. Now I am in a better place ready to get back to my healthy weight, hoping to lose even more. Just had a major fill and should be close to my sweet spot. However, I need some input and support to get back on track because quite honestly, I have forgotten everything that I should be doing. Any help, suggestions or input will be GREATLY appreciated!

Post-op day 2 for me. I had a much better night last night. The nausea has subsided, so I was able to take my pain med (I use Tylenol with Codeine), whenever I needed it. Yesterday was long. I still have pretty sharp pain in my left shoulder, between my shoulder blades, near my collar bone and in my mid back. My only abdominal discomfort is the port incision, but it's getting less each day. Yesterday I sort of forced myself to get enough fluids. I just have no appetite or desire to put anything in my mouth. I did, however, have Water, beef broth, diluted grape juice, suagr free Jello and an ice pop. I also got in one clear Protein Drink. Today I can add to all…

Hello. Had my surgery on Saturday just gone and recovering well enough. Have stuck to Clear liquids and now introduced milk and yoghurt aftrt dr said I could from 3 days post op. After around no more than 100mls of liquid being sipped slowly over say 30 minutes it feels very tight for the rest of the day. Not sure if this js what I am supposed to be feeling inside but thought I would ask on here. I can someyimes then grt a pain in my shoulder or neck similar to the sharp gas pain. I have no restriction in my band. I know my body is healing right now but I have no idea how I'll be able to eat and keep up my Water in take. At the moment am really struggling to manage mo…

I have been banded for 18 months with no serious complications however, if I could get some feedback it would be appreciated. For the last week I have been nausea (no vomiting or PB), I have a tremendous amount of gas. I have allergies, also I stopped taking Klonopin (anti anxiety drug) last week "cold turkey". Spoke with Dr's office and they said that if I wasn't throwing up it was probably not slippage. It may be that my band has gotten tighter???? Any help please !!!!!

Hello everyone or anyone who can help me with my question. I was banded in 2011 everything was great until July of 2014 NO restriction after an EDG, port replacement and still no restriction we had to remove and replace my entire band on 12/18/13. My tube was crystalized and leaking. My do doctor said he had never seen this before only heard about one case of this in Las Vegas. I feel like I need answers and not getting it from google or my physician. Do you think you can ask your doctors why this happens? The band was good no erosion but the tube was??? Is it aspirin, alcohol? My PH in my body? To much acid? Am I eating wrong? Was I red the red zone for to long…

Hello, this forum is all new to me but I hope there is someone that may give me advice. I am 2 days post lap band surgery. Day 1 went good . Then today (day 2 ) as I ate some thin cream of wheat and then swallowded a magnesium pill, the pill got stuck somewhere down maybe in the band area. This brought on great discomfort, muscle spasms and sharp pain. It continued all day . Anytime I swallow water, warm tea, jello. Etc I end up with the spasm and pain. Has anyone experienced this or know what I can do to relieve the pain?

Do you use FaceBook ? Linda Walsh from Nutley, NJ just posted the following question on the recently launched BariatricPal FaceBook page: Hi. I just returned home from losing my lap band due to severe slippage with a prolapse--the stomach had folded back over he band and twisted inside out. This was all due to a severe bout of the stomach flu twice last month. (I work in 12 Child Care Centers every week and am bombarded wth every virus you could imagine!) I could not hold anything inside me for a week. And of course I waited till I had things in control at home before seeking emergency care--of course it was a saturday. The Doctor said the stomach was very stretched …

Hello everyone, I'm 3 months post-op, (no fills yet) and all of a sudden, I got this pain in the upper left side of my chest and shoulder. It started after having a hard time trying to eat a buffalo wind last monday, I did not eat it. The next day I could not eat at all, so I went on liquids for 2 days. I can swallow easer now, but the pain is still there. I know is gas, because it is exactly like after the surgery, I can fell the gas moving. I try to eat some solid food last night and the pain increase, it fells all the way to my throat. I have had 2 o 3 PB's, but nothing that serious. Did I hurt my band? I have to go on a trip today, so I hate not felling well. I t…

Hi there, I'm wondering what people do post-fill. My surgeon has no particular protocol for either pre- or post-fill. I had my fourth one yesterday. He is also not inclined to share the amount of the fills. I think he is easing me into it and I do feel tighter this morning, an absence of hunger. Last night I was hungry, though, and I had a regular dinner of fish and veggies. Do you think a post-fill protocol is designed to protect the pouch or is it more to do with behavior modification, encouraging the listening we all need to be doing?

I have been gone for some time now and I think its about past time that I return. I actually got the lap-band April 2nd 2012 and have done nothing with it since but figure out every way under the sun to eat around it. I feel like I was not ready mentally and emotionally for the surgery. The past year I have been working on me inside and I think its time that I get this weight under control. I have cut out juice completely and am active in my gym. My diet is not ALL protein but I try to stay heavy on the protein when planning my meals. (I have lost 3 pounds in just 4 days, I know water weight but I will certainly take it lol). I really want to make this a lifestyle as oppo…

Hi, This is a little long which I apologise for. In April, I started vomitting for no reason, no where close to if I had eaten like 2-3 hours after with no rhyme or reason. They did a barium swollow lap band fine. Sent to GI doctor did X-ray and upper GI all was normal. It was decided it was due to stress of caring for 2 Alzheimer's parents. When I was vomitting My abdomen where my port is started hurting off and on. The pain was burning, like something was being ripped. Fast forward to end of June / beginning of July while on vacation no vomiting but constant pain where my port is. I tried to rest where I was not tighting my stomach, taking antiinflammatories no relief.…

I was banded in September and this month my hair has started to fall out. As in handfuls of hair. I have thick hair but I've clogged the bathroom sink and the shower drain. LOL! I've read different posts about this and I what I've gathered is there really isn't anything you can do about it. Just wondering how long this phase lasts? Not complaining cuz I'm losing weight and I'm super happy with my progress. Just curious!

I have a fair amount of port discomfort. It hurts when I do any core workout (e.g., planking, push-ups, crunches) too much and it hurts often when a waistband (no matter how loose or comfortable) hits it. I talked to my surgeon and he said it is positioned fine and I should just do other core work. But I am surprised at how frequently it bothers me. Anyone else have a similar issue?

Hi there, recent article on sleep: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/29/sleep-health-benefits_n_4461303.html?ncid=edlinkusaolp00000009 For many of us it's easier said than done -- we know we need better sleep but have difficulty achieving it. What I liked about this article is the idea of committing to the idea of better sleep, reducing screen time at night, having a regular bedtime routine, etc. Best wishes, every one, for good sleep and excellent health in this coming year......

I've jus had my 2year anniversary with the band and I wasnt happy with where I stand today. Since September I've gained 17 pounds. It's like I've lost the will to fight. I want to get back on track but it's like I have forgotten wat to do. The struggle to do the right thing is very real. I feel like such a failure I feel like crying. I have no one to blame but me. Can anyone give me some pointers so I can get back on my journey. I know ultimately its up to me to do the work.

Last night we were at the mall and I was VERY hungry. Silly me decided not to eat a snack before heading out of the house and just wait till we went to dinner. I ordered some spinach and cheese dip as an appetizer and because I was so hungry, forgot to pay attention to how big my bites were and how much I was chewing. Before I knew it I was STUCK. Usually, I can wait it out and it will pass but I must have eaten too much for that. I found myself in the restaurant bathroom "throwing it back up". Unfortuntately since it was a busy Saturday night the bathroom kept getting crowded and I couldn't get it all up. After watching my family eat their delicous looking dinner and a t…

Hello! So my surgery is on Saturday morning and the nerves are really starting to kick in. I keep thinking over and over is this the right thing? I know this will be the best investment I can make in myself but I am nervous about the pain, what to do afterwards, how to look after the band. I also keep thinking what if u don't lose any weight....aargh! It's like falling off a cliff and letting go. I know whats waiting at the bottom will be great but I don't want to let go. Did anyone else have major nerves? I know the pros outweigh all the cons. I can't lose this weight on my own and keep it off. I've tried and failed too much. I just need to shake off the nerves. :*(
