  1. A friend from another board told me about LapBandTalk and I had to come and check it out. A forum just for us bandsters!!! What a great idea. I had my surgery on June 18, 2007 at Emory / Crawford Long Hospital. I have been heavy most of my life and all of my adult life. I'm 41 years old and procrastinated on surgery for several years. My PCP kept encouraging me to look into it and finally yelled at me about 18 months ago saying, "When your health becomes as much of a concern for you as it is for me, maybe you'll do something about it!" I have never had a doctor yell at me before. I consider that my "wake up call". Obviously my weight was more of an issue than …

hello- I'm kind of new; I was doing research on banding late 2007. I finally have a surgery date. The last time i was on lbt.com, there was a great thread on what to bring with you pre and post surgery. I will be driving to Mexico for my procedure, and I was hoping to get tips here from all the pros on what to bring with me; necessaries and those little things that will help comfort in a time of discomfort...

Hi, I was banded on Friday, 12/16/2007 in Tijuana, Mexico at Dr. Gonzale's clinic. My stomach swelled and I could not get anything down, therefore, the Dr. made me stay over the weekend and wait until Monday, if the swelling did not go away he would have to go in and put a bigger band in. The swelling did not go down, so he went back in. The total cost for my banding was only $6,750, the clinic was beautiful with a view of the gold course below, the staff was excellent and so was Dr. Gonzales and Dr. Alvarez. I have since had 2 fills and lost a total of 21 pounds. I can't wait to loose my goal weight and wear cute clothes again that look good!! Good luck to you all! c…

Hello to all! I have been reading posts on this site for a couple of months and now I feel like I need to touch base with folks who have been where I am going! I am very nervous about the surgery, but actually more nervous about post surgery. Did anyone feel nauseous? Was there much pain? How soon did you feel like yourself? I know I am making the right decision, but it's still a bit overwhelming! Thanks!:rolleyes2:

Hello, I'm Michelle from Australia. 40 y.o. and a BMI of around 45. I have PCOS which has added to my weight issue and SAD which doesn't help. Winter for me is the worst part of the year. I took out insurance last year, so can have the operation anytime after 18 October this year. I'm considering around November because I can then take 4 weeks off work. I work in child care and having to bend over and pick up kids all day doesn't appeal to me just after tummy surgery lol. I am going to my GP this Saturday to get a referral, I want to meet the surgeon and get everything underway now, so I can plan for it all, that way it'll go more smoothly later on. Michelle

My BMI is 43.9 and I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and severe sleep apnea. I am considering lap-band but everyone keeps telling me to just eat less and exercise more. Am I stupid to spend the money, deal with the pain, and be forced into a life changing situation? I am so confused reading all these posts. Does your physician take care of the insurance red tape? How many different doctors do you have to see before they will clear you for the banding?

Hi. I'm just starting to think about LapBands and I'm glad I found this forum as a resource of information. My main question doesn't have to do with any of the physical effects of the process but about the emotional ones. I realize that the band results in major changes with the most noticeable being what is eaten and the amounts and, of course, the resulting weight loss. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who binged or ate when not hungry but when bored, sad, lonely, angry or worried, so my question is how did you deal with the habit of eating; the urge to eat when life is out of control. I have depression and have been in therapy so it's not like I'm completely cluele…

I was banded on October 5, 2007 by Dr. Lopez Corvala in Tijuana, Mexico. I have lost about 20# since surgery (not near what I would like to be at). I recently had my 4th fill, and I am now having problems with most of the foods I was eating. Not a bad thing, obviously I could have lost more. So now I am going to start a low carb diet and hope to drop all of this weight!
