Hello,I am a 52 y/o trying to make a decision. I thought I wanted s sleeve but then people I've met start talking about a bypass and now a gastric plication(sp). I know I dont want a band. what is the difference with a sleeve and the plication. Don't you feel hungry isn't removed? I attended the required support group this weekend and was disappointed. They had lost weight, most of them with a gastric bypass, but they looked unhealthy. I have had trouble finding a support group with mostly sleeve participants. They were nice but It seemed like it was just a complaint group. I had hoped to talk with the surge…

It has been over a year since I started working toward my surgery. I started very motivated and did well on the required three month diet. Did all of the heart tests and sleep studies and nutritionist consultations. But what has kept me from getting the surgery for so long was the two months of CPAP machine use that has been required of me. I tried it and freaked out and it took me months to finally start wearing it. In the meantime so much of my motivation was lost...but not quite all of it. I have been wearing the CPAP for a month with another month to go. Sleeping is not happening too much and the only way to actually sleep is sitting up in bed so the mask won't leak. …

Had my the surgery in Sept 2009. I became very ill and lost weight really fast. Because I was going in and out of hospital and had so many problems, I never quite grasped my good eating habits. Well this caused me to gain weight. I would like to know if anyone gained any weight after gastric bypass and lost it again. If you have, can you please tell me how you lost the weight, I need help!!

Since the iband is relatively new and there aren't that many doctors that preform it yet, I would like this thread to be a resource for people to find a doctor near them that preforms the iband. Please list your doctors information (Name, location, and contact number) below and I will try to compile the list. Today was a great day. Surgery + 7 days. Yeah! It was my first day out of the house since coming home after my sleeve surgery and the sun felt really good on my face. I went to my surgeon's office to get my drain removed and was very happy to see that my weight is back to the level it was right before my operation. One year ago I was weighing +320 lbs. I clocked in today at 248. I was 247 on the day of surgery. I guess everyone gains a pound or two after the proceedure is done since they pump you full of fluids with the Meds that you get on the hospital. I will see my surgeon next week for my first visit with him since the proceedure. It is time to really ge…

Well tomorrow is my one month mark. I like to say right now this was all worth it but I can't. I lost 11lbs in the first 9days (duing hell week), but nothing since then. That's almost three weeks without a weight loss? How's that possible? My NUT says expect 1-3lbs a week but I'm not even doing 1lb. :-( We went over myfitnesspal tracker that I use on my iPhone, to see what foods I eat and liquids and Vitamins I have and my NUT says I'm doing great. After week two she suggested to take my walking and treadmill exercise from 30min a day to 45-60. Which I did, & Although I feel better, the body doesn't look better. I'm not gaining muscle mass as I'm not working ou…

Hi All, I haven't been on here for a while, but it is good to see everyone is doing well! I had my sleeve surgery Oct. 20th, and while I am still not at goal, I have lost SO much more weight than I would have without this tool! AND I have had to buy an entire new wardrobe (Okay, not new, I buy second hand, because I am saving all of my money for GOAL clothes). I LOVE my sleeve!

After a lifetime of losing and gaining weight, I think I've made the decision go have the surgery. I'm 50 and was thin until the age of seven. I've yo-yo'd back and forth but have never been under 185 my entire adult life. At my biggest, I was around 305. I'm currently sitting at 283 and feeling more uncomfortable than ever. I finally got insurance at the beginning of the year, primarily because I needed to have my gallbladder removed. It turns out that the costs associated with the surgery will meet my maximum out of pocket expenses for the year. So...that means that I could have the VGS done for free! I started the supervised diet in February, as my insurance requ…

hi - now raise your hand, how many of you don't have anyone to talk to on the phone/person about WLS for support. My DH is supportive, but he can only talk so much (i'm actually the talker in the family) surprise surprise since he has never experienced the sleeve he listens well, but he can't really contribute or understand that much about the sleeve. Also FYI, i feel kind of weird talking about myself and WLS to him cuz he is obese. I have "mentioned" that maybe he would be interested into looking into the sleeve, after at least he sees how much i will have lost. And of course how great i look!! Don't have any friends to confide in, just some aquaintences that …

I am a 57 yr old widow, I live with my son & daughter in law in north central Arlington (15 minutes from Cowboy Stadium). I know they will do their best at being supportive (they've already been very supportive)but they are after all 30+yrs younger than me. I don't really have any local friends or other family, so am kinda alone in all this. Anyone out there want/need a support friend, for phone, email, even to get out for an ice tea in the lovely Texas spring weather? I am NOT looking for romance, I AM looking for friends female or male, who understand what I am going thru. I expect to be banded within the next 18 - 30 days and I am getting very nervous about surger…

Hello Sleevers, I've been sleeved now for one year, I hit my goal weight six months after surgery. Here's my issue when I was wearing 18/22 I would look at the size 4/ 6 in the department store and say wow that's really tiny. Now that I wear a size 4/6 I look at my jeans and say wow these look pretty big to me, it's like in my mind if I'm wearing it...it's got to be huge or large not small or tiny. My therapist says this is normal my mind is still processing the new me and in time I will see what every one else sees. When I see individuals that I've not seen in a long time they say things like "Don't lose any more weight" or "Wow your so tiny" I've attached a p…

Hi! I'm another newbie to this sight. I've been reading posts on here as well as many blogs from other bandsters. This is all new to me! I've begun the process of having lap band surgery and am waiting for insurance approval. I have to do three monthes of a diet and exercise journal and work with an RN assigned to me through my insurance. She will then help submit the other necessary paperwork and hopefully I will be approved! I've been to my seminar, had the mental evaluation, and upper GI. I just wish I could get the ball rolling faster-- the weight(pun intended) is killing me! Lol I have to admit the journaling is really hard for me! I just can't get used to writing eve…

Hi everyone, a little background on me. Like most of you reading this, I have been fighting my food addiction for 50 of my 60 years. I love food, it is my drug and I look forward to it all the time. I know, sick isn't it? I have lost and gained hundreds of pounds and I'm really tired of feeling and looking like crap. I have high blood pressure, cholesteral, sleep apnea, degenerated disks, gout, arthritis, everything but diabedes, and this is next if I don't stop the madness. I was divorced three years ago after 25 years of being married at the same time I was laid off after 29 years with the same company.....pretty crumby huh? Well I know I'm not the only one to go thro…

My name is Katy. I live is Central Texas. I have 2 children, 6 year old boy and a 2 year old daughter. I am married to my best friend for 11 years this weekend. I have struggled with my weight since I was 18 years old. I have tried every single diet including rx meds (all types) since that time. It has been difficult for me. I have never given up and am always trying to work out and eat right. I just dont success constantly. I looked into gastric bypass 8 years ago but I was declined by insurance and I am glad b/c it seems scary now to alter my body so drastically to cut my stomack and change the way it functions. I am set for surgury on 5/22/12. I had to set…

Hi, I've been lurking here for a while and really enjoy this site. My partner and I were recently approved by the surgeon for the band. We've started our pre surgery hoops that includes a 6month medically supervised weight loss program. If all goes well looking to be banded in Sept 2012. I have a BMI of 49 (Jesus that's terrible). I hope to post more as I go thru the process. I was on WW first in Kindergarten and remember being embarrassed to see my teacher at a meeting in middle school. It's time to lose this weight and the band will help me. I'm so happy in all other areas of my life now it's time to get healthy. I also have a blog to encourage myself and hopefully o…

I'm very excited baout the surgery, but at the same time with it only being 1 week away I am getting very anxious! I have thought about it for a long time and have tried every diet you can imagine and some worked but as soon as I slip up all the weight that I lose comes right back. I all, I just got banded on Feburary 14, 2012. I weighed 261 and I'm down 241. I am a little sad that I haven't continued to loose weight at the beginning. I go for my first fill of 5ccnon Thursday Feb. 15. I am a bit nervous don't know what to expect. When I eat now sometimes I feel a stuck and burning sensation going down, on an empty band? I am a little depressed weight loss has stopped. Will I continue after my fill? Thanks guys!

Hello everyone. My name is Chris and I am from Fenton, mi (north Detroit). I was sleeved on 3/05 by Dr.Ali Elhorr of Dearborn Bariatrics. I am 41 years old and have been married to my wife Betsy for almost 18 years. She is being sleeved on 3/21 and we are going to do this together. I have lost 31 pounds since the first of February and I feel great. I do seem to get "hungry" later in the day. However, I am learning to deal with that via luigis Italian ice (lol). We were talking about our vacation in July this year and thinking about Yellowstone Park. All of a sudden I thought of the things we will be able to do tis year, that in years past, we would not have considered…

...after lurking around this forum for a week....I feel that the Sleeve is the way to go instead of the band. I would like to introduce myself and thank everyone for having such great insight and advise about the sleeve. Ultimately, I am still about 4 months away from having surgery as I need to finish up my 6 month program with my insurance company. Up until last week when i had my consult i was all about the band but after seeing the great results people have been having with the sleeve was the deciding factor. I also feel that I would get better results with the sleeve as I need to lose 120lbs (which is scary to think) and I dont think I could lose that much with the…

Hello everybody Well, I used to suffer in order to lose weight and two months ago I took a decision to undertake the gastric plication surgery. I choose this surgery in particular for you're left with no artificial bodies inside your stomach post-operation. It's just an operation that purposes to reduce the size of your stomach, which consequently helps you with the intake of food or the amount you're going to eat and digest. I read a lot about the surgery before taking my decision and of course talked with many doctors. Now Im 2 months POST operation. Have to say that the first month was going very well despite the fact that i mainly depended on liquids; there was n…

I had ny gastric bypass 02/29/12 I just got out the hospital 3/05/12 long stay. I was throwing up so bad and couldn't even swallow my spit. I had developed a bowl obstruction. They were going to do surgery again bc I was almost off liquids for a week. Miraculously I woke up Sunday morning and could swallow. You have no idea how good that first ice chip tasted melting in my mouth. Prior to surgery I lost 29 lbs. I don't know my current weight now I go for my post op 3/13/12 1 day b4 my 23rd bday. I haven't ate anything since I left the hospital I just can't seem to make myself. I do eat a lot of ice though. I just started my vitamins and ulcer meds. I am going crazy I have…

I was banded in May 2011 by Dr.Ortiz in TJ Mexico. I can't believe it's been 9 months since surgery. I have only kept the first 10 pounds off since surgery. I have had 2 fills & I'm at 8cc in a 10cc band. I know what I'm doing to sabotage my success...I don't exercise, I eat foods that are "easy" to eat (ice cream, yogurt, pudding, and i have found that if you smother things with ranch dressing & butter & it goes down easier, and chocolate!) I get VERY discouraged but I've realized it's not the band, it's ME! I thought it would be a quick fix, I yo-yo with my weight & I wanted something that would regulate my food, which the band does, but I have gotten us…

I have an appt this week with a local Bariatric Surgery center that offers 3 different types of weight loss surgery. I am wondering what your deciding factor was in choosing the Lap Band over Gastric Bypass? I am having trouble deciding which surgery to go with. I have researched pros and cons of both surgeries and still don't know. I have a little over a 100 lbs to lose. Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Dr. called me about my 6 month blood results. He is concerned that liver iron stores are way too high. He is currently pulling my path report fromn my liver biopsy. He said there is some iron staining... he has not said the Hematochromasia word yet but I think that is where he is heading. I guess I am at the point of what is... is. It seems to be a genetic problem. I am just hoping that there is not a lot of damage to the liver heart and pancreas. I guess now I have to figure out how to mesh the recommended diet for hematochromasia with the what is a proper diet for my sleeve. I LOVE my sleeve and would not change it if I could. I am far far from goal but if Inev…

Hi, I waited a day or two to post that I reached onederland. Very excited but a little sceptical because my weight has been fluctuating the entire time. I eat right, I exercise, drink lots, get in my protien. Not many issues, maybe except for constipation (sorry if TMI). I post I am 198, so excited, and that officailly means I claim it and believe it. I know I can not gain it back. I worked harder, exercised more and ate less yesterday than I have since I have been sleeved. I also drank a ton yesterday. What happens, I wake up this morning 199.6 , yikes. Do any of you lose two, then gain one, the entire time. I never never just go down, down. I am either…

So I talk to my Dr he suggested gastric bypass I was scared to get anything moved in me.but I got it done anyway.I am now 11 days post op and very happy I'm losing almost 2 pounds a day.but it's not easy to see my family eat normal food while I'm still on liquid diet all I think about is skinny, skinny, skinny.
