Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum

Mini gastric bypass support. How it works, how it compares to RNY, diet, weight loss, and risks.

Hi I had my mini gastric bypass on October 10th and I still cannot stand for anything to be around my stomach. If I wear a skirt by the end of the day my stomach is sore. I had 35 staples and had emergency surgery four days after the mini gastric surgery due to a bleeding ulcer. Anyone having the same problem with soreness ? 2. Ok so those are my pictures before and after... They're almost 5 months apart. Had my MGB April 30th and the other picture taken September 29th.. I'm happy with where I reached. Being able to wear nice clothes and still look good in them... I just hope I can maintain my weight and not lose more than few kilos Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Yesterday I was admitted for my mini gastric bypass and after waiting all night and day (the hospital admits the night before) I was told my surgery needed to be rescheduled because of a patient needing emergency surgery. My first response I was disappointed but then I hoped that the person who needed the surgery survived. My surgeon immediately rescheduled me for Monday October 10 (I am admitted Sunday night). I learned so much on what to expect at the hospital from my 24 hour admission. I packed to many nightgowns, they provided all toiletries , bring a book because I could not sleep and have a bag fill of patience. October 4 is only a couple of days away and I am much m…

I would like to hear from those who got pregnant or trying for pregnancy after Mini Gastric Bypass. It seems I can't find someone to talk to regarding this.. I need to know more about the medical care before during and after pregnancy. How far after MGB did you get pregnant? Have you had any fertility issues after MGB? It seems since I lost a lot of fat my estrogen levels went down and I'm having a thin lining now. I don't know if this is an issue that will resolve on its own by time since I'm only 5 months post-op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  5. Hello! I had the band about 7 years ago and the sleeve in Tijuana about 3 years ago. I have been a very slow loser with the sleeve and can't seem to get rid of these last 30-40 pounds. I'm considering having the Mini Gastric Bypass later this year. I can't find a bunch of information anywhere else, so I thought some of you may be willing to share your experiences and your weight loss. I am willing to consider Juarez or Tijuana. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you in advance!

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has had the MGB and tried to go raw vegan diet. I had my MGB in 10/02. I lost about 100 pounds, without complications and maintained that weight for several years (267/167). I then cut out drinking gatorade and some butterscotch candies I loved and lost another 20 pounds. I took the usual supplements, i.e. Vitamins, Iron, zinc, Vitamin D, Calcium, fish oil and was stable for years. This in May of 2016 I discovered I had breast cancer, had a lumpectomy, but declined conventional therapies of chemo., radiation, and Tamoxifin. I decided to go to a completely raw vegan diet instead. I had transitioned to this by 6/16 and …

Ok so I went in for my first post-op blood work up.. The tests are done for free where I live. So I went to the GP with the doctors list of tests needed post-op which includes Iron levels. The GP said she will do a CBC first and only in case my HB was low then she will do an iron level test(to cut cost). However she did ordered for all Vitamin levels test in the doctors list. My Hb levels came back @12.4 so she said there is no need to test for iron levels. I have not been taking an iron supplement and my Multivitamins does not include iron. Does this mean that I'm still absorbing iron well from my food?! Do I really need an iron level test?! Sent from my iPhone using…

I get enough Protein from meat everyday so no Protein shakes for me (nasty stuff plus caused me to be nauseous and with tachycardia) I average around 1200-900 calories per day yet my weight loss hasn't slowed down or stopped.. With MGB doctors usually bypass 5"-9" of the intestines. And I was just wondering what will happen if the doctor fixes a much shorter loop like 0.5"-1"??? The reason I'm asking is because I had a MGB at a BMI of only 33.. I had it done only after my doctor convinced me that it's a better option for me than VSG and I trusted him. Now I'm losing weight so fast that at 8 weeks out I'm only 5kgs away from my goal weight. I've consulted another doctor who surprisingly advised a revision to normal RNY!!!! I know a reversal of MGB (getting my stomach back) is an option but I had major bleeding complications following my MGB surgery and I'm thinking maybe just a revision to a sho…

Im lost and I'm not sure now if the MGB is a reversible procedure or not!! My surgeon specifically said he favors it over VSG because of the option of reversibility.. He made the reversing sound so easy that he said it's even done whenever the patient wants to.. On the other hand side, another Bariatric surgeon said to forget about the reversibility of MGB. It's a non reversible procedure.. The risks are high and if the patient develops severe side effects from the MGB then we can only shift them to conventional bypass (RNY). Nothing else can be done I feel lost.. And I sure am worried.. My surgeon never told me about the risk of cancer following MGB.. Sent from …

It's getting better now after drinking some other Fluid half an hour later but I'm not entirely feeling good right now. I wonder if this was early dumping though I'm not sure why yesterday it was fine and today it wasn't. I already had this experience two days ago. Both times the same food and in the morning it wasn't ok, in the evening I tried again and I felt perfectly fine. Anyone else has this problem?

I couldnt walk without suffering from a severe foot ache, I couldnt breathe, i was too heavy and tired all the time and The worst part was the fact that my weight affected my pregnancy and was a barrier to have another. I'm planning to have WLS and am leaning towards a Mini Gastric Bypass. For those who have compared the RNY and the Mini Gastric Bypass, which one did you choose? Why? Are you glad you made the decision you did, or do you ever wish you'd chosen to have the other procedure? Why? If you've had a Mini Gastric Bypass, I'd love to hear about your experience and your results. Thanks so much!

  25. When I got the sleeve in 2011 I'd never heard of it until I came to this forum. It seemed like a miracle thing that was so much safer and better than the gastric bypass. But as I've mentioned in other posts, my sleeve is stretched, I've regained weight, and I have awful acid reflux. So now the doctor I've chosen is recommending the mini bypass and it sounds great but I'm worried that it's going to be like the sleeve, great at first but problems down the road. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of long term information out there about it. I'm all for this safer, easier version of the gastric bypass but I wish there were more people on here who've had it done. I'm ju…

Hi everyone I'm new to these forums and about to start a six week (minus 3 days) pre-op Optifast diet on 1st February, my op is booked in for 11th March. My surgeon has allowed the late start so I could go to my friends birthday lunch on 31st January. The Dietician has said I can have 4 optifast products and 2 cups non starchy vegetables daily and at least 2 litres Water, hoping I don't have too many problems. I have been hanging around these forums for a while but only registered a few days ago. Good luck to all my fellow MGBypassers who are either starting out on their journey like me or have been steadily progressing towards or reaching their goal. Marie

I consider my VSG to be a success, however, I have been gaining and losing the same 5-10 lbs for about a year. I am considering going back across the border to Mx for a revision. I would love to know what VSG to MGB patients have experienced. Especially if you chose Medical Tourism. Also - with the revision, how do they alter an already altered stomach?

Hi!! As I posted before on April 25 I had a failed gastric sleeve that had to be converted in a MGB on May 13. Well, my question is: How much can you eat? Because it seems I can eat a lot of food for a WLS patient. If I eat slowly 30-45mns I can ingest maybe 12-14 ounces of healthy food, but when I compare it to my gastric sleeve I could only eat 3-4 ounces. I´m still losing weight, 2 to 3 pounds per week, but I eat very healthy and exercise daily. Certain food like baby carrots don´t seem to go down easily, 3 or 4 of them and I have to stop eating. I have not tried beef yet.
