Im lost and I'm not sure now if the MGB is a reversible procedure or not!! My surgeon specifically said he favors it over VSG because of the option of reversibility.. He made the reversing sound so easy that he said it's even done whenever the patient wants to..

On the other hand side, another Bariatric surgeon said to forget about the reversibility of MGB. It's a non reversible procedure.. The risks are high and if the patient develops severe side effects from the MGB then we can only shift them to conventional bypass (RNY). Nothing else can be done

I feel lost.. And I sure am worried.. My surgeon never told me about the risk of cancer following MGB..

Im wondering if you have the two procedures the wrong way round as i believe the MGB to be reversible and the sleeve to only be able to be modified to a bypass or similar

help me to understand why you would want it reversed? From what I know they still make your stomach pouch so this cut away from your larger stomach. Would not think you could reverse this.

I was told the bypass was reversible. It's hard, but it can be done.

If you guys look online, especially at surgeons' articles, essays, posts, etc., you'll see language like this: "X procedure can be reversed, but it is rarely done, not always successful, and invites greater risks than the initial procedure."

I don't understand why a patient would want a reversible procedure or why a surgeon would talk it up as a selling point . . . to me that's like saying yes, please cure my cancer with this surgery but make sure the surgery is reversible just in case I want my cancer back.

My question was clear. Is this procedure reversible or not.. Please just answer the question if you know the answer .. I'm not here to explain why I would want to reverse it (though I did not specifically say I want to reverse it).

No, its not reversible.

The MGB is reversible. Specifically spoke to my surgeon about this. The larger portion of the stomach cut away is left in place during the surgery unlike the sleeve on the other hand where the larger part is removed.

Technically, yes. In reality, no. You will be pressed hard to find a doctor willing to do a reversal without a very good excuse as to why you want it done. And on top of that your insurance may not pay for it, especially if it's not life-threatening.

My personal opinion is that even reversable procedures have risk...they are never truly reversible. My lapband damaged my stomach.
