Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum

Mini gastric bypass support. How it works, how it compares to RNY, diet, weight loss, and risks.

Hi, I lost 100 lbs on band but had severe stuck problems and got my band removwd and converted to mgb. Now 14 daya post op, stiches have healed but every now and then i have severe bile reflux andnif i have some thing spicy i have this terrible feeling of throwing up. My lead surgeon is from europe who came just to perform the mgb in my country where a follow up surgeon takes care of follow ups.. But he is not too experieced.. I have some acid and somw bile reflux, out of which bile relfux i never had with the band... I am super scared to eat anything, doctors say it will settle... Is there a medication i can take to fix my bile reflux.. They gave me metacl…

  2. I'm finding so many conflicting and confusing guidelines. My doctor tells me 3 weeks clear liquid, 3 puree, then on to real foods...but then my friend gets done same procedure different doctor and she can begin eating after one wk of clear, 1 week of puree,.... Then I watch videos of Dr. Rutledge (creator of this surgery) online and he says he has patients who eat or have soup immediately and that people don't have to be on soft foods one whole month, and Dr. KULAR, frmer president of MGB club, saying he has patients who eat right away, like two days after eating things like beans. Just small. Skipping liquid stage. When did you all begin eating? Only asking for curiosity…

  3. Hi all I'm keen to form a group of Aussies who have had or are planning to have the Omega Loop Gastric Bypass weight loss surgery. I am scheduled to have the surgery on March 27th and would love to hear from people who have already had the surgery as well as those who have it planned for the future, so we share experiences and offer support. This is a life changing decision and I have so many questions about it. I've watched lots of You Tube videos and done plenty of research but would love to hear from people who have been through the experience. Cheers Burny63

Hey guys hope all is well. I've been reading but unable to find the exact answers. It looks as though there's no major difference? Can people with MGB tell me does it still cause malabsorption and the need for all the vitamins? Is the malabsorption as much as normal RNY? I'm just trying to get my head around why the 2 exist if they offer same results Thanks

I had a sleeve to MGB revision a few years ago and have had nothing but problems with severe reflux ever since. Does anyone else experience this? It started about 3 or 4 months after with just general reflux in my gut that was remedied with over the counter medicine. It's now so bad that Im seeing a specialist and have to have a series of tests to figure out if they want to perform a new surgery. I basically have reflux so bad that I vomit bile on an almost daily basis and if Im not eating constantly, it just gets worse and worse. I knew reflux was a potential side effect, but had I known it would get so bad that I need another surgery, I don't think I would have eve…

Hey guys I'm really tossing up between regular RNY or MGB I'd love to know honest responses on how life is with the MGB (omega loop) Do you have to eat slowly small bites? do you get full easily, has your hunger gone away? how is your weight loss? Any reflux issues? Literally good or bad information I need it all. Thank you. Like how much did you lose each month? or by 6 month and then 12 month? I've been told that RNY and MGB are very similar stat wise? Hope to hear from everyone

  13. Hi ! Welcome! This is the place to tell us all about your journey! If you are just starting research, or have had your operation, tell us ALL about it here. There are lots of names for this surgery: MGB (mini gastric bypass), OAGB (one anastomosis gastric bypass), Omega Loop, LMGB (laparoscopic mini gastric bypass). These are the same operations, but there can be some very slight differences by different doctors. As in, some European doctors have instituted a new method in their OAGB that places a stitch that is supposed to stop reflux and bile coming back up. Some other doctors in Europe are now doing this operation robotically, which is said to be a safer …

Hello everyone, I had mgb on October 6, 2016 and I have lost a significant amount of weight. I have had some complications and its been a rough year. My highest weight was 249 pounds and I am currently 123 pounds and my height is 5'7 1/2. Subsequently,I started out with a lower BMI than most people getting weight loss surgery. Has anyone had to have surgery to make their intestines longer to ascertain better absorption ? I am getting the surgery in two weeks and wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience. Hi, I've just joined. I had a mini gastric bypass June 27, 2018. I'm now around 11 weeks post surgery. My concern is I feel I don't have any restriction on how much I can eat. I feel I am eating more than I should after surgery. I also never have any dumping or have any foods I can't tolerate. Is there anyone else who is the same? I'm feeling like my bypass isn't working at all.

So I had MGB 8months ago. I have been getting bouts of diarrhea and after insisting to speak to the doctor over the phone (since my appointment is not until end of feb), doctor thinks it might be IBS. I'm down to 114lbs and most probably this weight loss will continue so now doctor is recommending revision to RNY!!!! This is crazy.. has anyone been through this before?? If I will have to go under the knife again I would prefer to get a total reversal but doctor thinks a reversal is not an option!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi all, I am getting my surgery today. Excited but nervous too. I am revising from Sleeve to MGB. I look forward to this tool being the right one for me. My only fear and worry is that I need to take vitamins every day and for life. How are you all coping and what can you tell to put me more at ease. What was also the hardest for you? Thanks

I am a foodie and my biggest issue is that. Can I still continue being one? I also wanted to ask anyone - how do you keep your blood sugar from falling below? I am concerned about this. Thanks

  23. So I’ve had mini gastric bypass 2 years ago and I’m finally pregnant. I switched from taking bariatric Multivitamins to prenatal Vitamins. I need to know if that’s ok and covers all my nutrients and minerals needs? In addition to prenatal vitamins I’m also taking 1200 mg of calcium citrate, 20mg Chelated Zinc, 5mg Folic Acid and once in a week 10,000 IU Vitamin D, I would also need to know when should I have my first prenatal visit to the Obgyn? Mine is scheduled at week 6, what do I expect of it other than ultrasound and what what type of Vitamin testing should be preformed? Anything else that I need to know.. I am a bit worried and excited

Hi Everyone, I am going outside US to get a mini gastric bypass (MGB) in August. After reading many posts, and watching YouTube videos I am really concerned about the following: - Bile Reflux: It seems like a large percentage of MGBs get Bile Reflux and have to have another operation. Has that been the case for you? - Foul-Smelling Stool: Is this the case for everyone? Does it get better after a while? - Malnutrition: Does this happen to everyone and is taking vitamins (multi, D3, B12) enough to fix this? What else are you taking to prevent malnutrition? - After experiencing MGB, do you recommend MGB instead of RNY or sleeve? Thank you in …

  25. Hello everyone Long story short, I’m scheduled for surgery in a little over 3 weeks and I’m terrified! I had a band way back in 2007 which I did OK with, if you call throwing up almost daily in order to lose weight OK! The early months were great, I didn’t feel hungry, I coped really well with all the liquid stages every time the band was tightened and aside from the port discomfort which seems pretty constant, it worked how I expected it to. My issues came when I tried to eat solid food. I think the big downfall for me with the band was the pure unpredictability of how your stomach will react on any given day. Hormone fluctuations and stress and because it’s a…

I have never thought I would ever struggle to gain weight. I had MGB 2.2 years ago and had a healthy stable weight for so long. Last month I’ve been battling divorse and within 4 weeks I lost 7 kg’s and I’m at a scary weight right now. I ordered a pack of nestle boost very high calorie drink with 530 calories per pack. Thought that might solve the problem! It says it’s lactose and gluten free but it gave me the worst diarrhea ever. Apparently the fat content is very high! Now does anyone know how I can increase my calorie intake and gain weight back! Does anyone know of a high calorie drink that is MGB friendly! Nutrition guidelines? My surgeon didn’t give any of us guidelines, just to eat protein first and stop when you’re full. Not super helpful...

Would I have a better chance of not getting acid reflux if I just went with the standard gastric bypass? Thank you!

My concern is, where I live the MGB is not very common. I am concerned about finding a Dr. who can help me if any complications arise. Hello All- I am scheduled for Sleeve Revision to Mini-Bypass on Sept 29th. I do not have enough vacation time to take extended time off, so I will be returning to work in 5 days. I am having my surgery with Dr. Ilan. Any tips, advice, input, or expectations you would like to share? I took off 2 weeks with my sleeve and was bored to tears after about 5 days. So, I'm confident I'll be fine to return to my desk job so quickly. Also, it has been rumored that my weight loss will much slower with the second surgery than it was with the Sleeve. Anybody have any insight on this? Thanks in advance.
