Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum

Mini gastric bypass support. How it works, how it compares to RNY, diet, weight loss, and risks.

  1. Started by Gypsy_Life,

Has anyone else experienced severe, stabbing pain in the left side of their abdomen after eating - sometimes not even then but random times. About 3 inches to the left of the navel that is sharp & stabbing. Bowels normal for patient, never experienced constipation, no particular food sets it off and lasts for up to 30 minutes? Patient is 4 months post sleeve revision to mini gastric bypass.

Anyone here had a Mini Bypass reversal? I'd really like to get some feedback please..

  3. Hi everyone I’m back again for moral support. Got my MGB back in February. After a couple of extremely hard weeks, 5 weeks to be precise, i finally thought that my ordeal was over. I had spent all this time finding it really hard to drink water and reach my protein goals until then. Suddenly, starting the 6th week post op, i saw some light at the end of the tunnel and managed to expand my food a little bit. I avoided everything I was told to avoid until then, oil, sugar, pasta, rice, raw veggies, you name it! one day I was invited to a barbecue and ate what I was given, namely a bit of salad and some marinated chicken. Everything was fine for the days that follo…

I’m 6 years post a mini gastric bypass and still haven’t found a solution to my very very embarrassing problem. I suffer from foul smelling stools that can be runny sometimes. It causes me a great deal of embarrassment and distress.. I can’t use toilets anywhere outside my own toilet in my house.. and no one can use the toilet after me because the smell is very foul and lingers for a very long time.. I also suffer from a lot of smelly farts that usually start around evening time (hardly anything in the morning) ... no matter what I eat or what I eliminate from my diet it doesn’t cause a difference.. Does anyone seem to have a solution for this or managed to understand why…

Hi, I had surgery (Mini Gastric Bypass) in Jan 2023 and I am losing weight. Total weight loss is 50lb (in 23 weeks) . However most of this was lost in the early month and I have slowed to approximately 1lb per week, if that. The slower weight loss is fine, I can cope with this because its going in the right direction. What has be very anxious is that i find that I feel like i have no restriction and can eat anything. To maintain the weight-loss I need to tell myself not to eat. I am fighting with the 1lb weight loss each week to make sure its a deficit, terrified that it will go up. I don't feel like i have a tool. Are there any other MGB patients that can eat a…

Hi, everyone. I had a sleeve to mini bypass conversion in 2024. It’s been fine except I often have loose stools and need to run to the toilet. Recently I noticed a weird bulge in my abdomen a couple inches to the left of my belly button. I’m not able to see my doctor, as I’ve just started a job and am doing a three month shift in a remote location. There is no pain and sometimes the bulge is not there. It sort of comes and goes. Has anyone been through something similar? Thank you.

  8. Hey guys just a little backstory, I was sleeved 2017 and lost 100lbs but due to bad habits creeping in have regained most of it back 5 years now. I just had my consultation with the doctor and I’m getting revised to mini bypass. I’m excited and hoping to lose about 100lbs. Looking for others who may have gone through this revision.

[MINI GASTRIC BYPASS THREAD – PLEASE CONSIDER YOUR SURGERY AND EXPERIENCES MAY NOT APPLY TO MINI GASTRIC BYPASS PATIENTS] Hi all BP’ers and lurkers out there; especially hi to everyone who had the mini gastric bypass (AKA the one-anastomosis gastric bypass/single-anastomosis gastric bypass/omega loop gastric bypass) It’s my surgiversary! I can’t believe it’s already been a year. But what a year it has been. Man. I wanted to share a lot of thoughts about my journey – there’s not a ton of MGB patients out there yet, and especially not in the US. I’ll admit I’ve been working on this for a while, because I want to share the good word about the MGB and con…

Hello Sorry for my not- perfect- english, at first. I got support to get MGB in my home country ( Europe) because of some health problems and BMI 35. I feel quite well even with my problems but I know it will not get better but worse in future. Tried to take off weight for 30 years through different weight loose programs, now even walking makes some pain but I survive it. I’m working in children’s day care and its quite intensive. And my nutrionist suggests to continue with diet plans and I feel quite depressed because of that. Does anybody have experience with such a BMI like mine and which are results? Is it worth operating or did you get toooo lean after MGB? Than…

  12. I am 7 months post op from my revision from sleeve to MGB and weight loss is at 85.5 pounds after surgery on 11/2022. I was just diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Cancer and in the works of getting answers as to what the next steps are. My question is I am wondering if anyone has gone through this with weight loss surgery. If life is relatively the same and will losing weight be the same so long as I continue with the gym and my meal plans.

  13. I have just started the Soft Food stage and every time I eat a meal, about an hour later I feel lethargic and kind of yucky. Not really sick but not good. Right in the middle. For example this morning for breakfast I had 1 egg fried with pam, and 1/2 an avocado. It went down no problem, but about an hour later I feel like I could curl up and sleep. Just a touch of yucky feeling but not really sick. I hope i'm explaining this right? Is this dumping syndrome? and what could be causing it? I haven't overate, nothing high fat or surgery.

  14. Hi everyone. I need some advice or encouragement… because I still don’t really see the light at the end of the tunnel ? I had surgery 33 days ago. I already posted before about my journey 2 weeks post op and how I couldn’t eat nor drink properly for weeks. I can gladly say that drinking has improved immensely and somehow eating as well. However things have shifted dramatically and I don’t know if I’m the only one. The cramping and pain that used to be located around my old stomach in the early days has somehow moved to my bowels now. Let me explain. Up to week 3 post op, every time I tried to eat or drink something I would instantly feel it in the new pouch like a he…

I am 5.5 months out from mini bypass and wondering if I am in a stall. I haven’t had one yet but it’s been 15 days since I’ve lost anything. I’ve also noticed my restriction not kicking in - is that normal? Does that mean I’ve stretched my stomach?

Curious if anyone else has experienced something like this. I’m about a month out from surgery and I’m having a decent amount of nausea and food aversions. It feels VERY similar to when I was pregnant and in the first trimester. I know hormones get weird post surgery and am wondering if it can cause these types symptoms. I don’t believe it’s any of the other causes of nausea because I have no other symptoms. No sweating or anxiety with dumping. No vomiting or heaviness that go with a stricture. No foamies or similar from eating too fast/too much. I have let my doctor know and they said to take more omeprazole, which has helped some. The food aversion may be somewhat to my…

Hi I got my Sleeve to MGB revision surgery done yesterday in Tijuana, MX by Dr jaime Ponce de leon. I'm surprised at how well I am recovering right now. I'm doing way better than I did when I got my Sleeve in July 2010. Dr. Ponce has been doing the MGB for years and in December 2016 he was trained first-hand by Dr Rutledge the creator of the Mini Gastric Bypass during a conference in TJ. Dr. Ponce was only going to bypass me as recommended by Dr Rutledge in sleeve revisions, but he found a larger than usual fundus which my previous Dr. is known for creating. He reshaped my pouch and bypass 7ft of intestines. I had a little gas discomfort after surgery, but…

I’m excited and nervous all at the same time. I started the liver shrinking diet this AM and so far so good. Any words of wisdom? Things you wish you had known pre-op or just post-op?

Hello I am not sure if the revision to a mini gastric bypass will work but I am 100% committed to making it work. I got cocky after slimming down and got off track. Regretful to say the least. I found out that the procedure does not call for a reduction of the stomach because the sleeve already did that. Doing research now to look deeper into the physiological effects of the MGB and the difference between my GSS. If anyone can share their experience with the same surgery path I'd appreciate it. Thank you MJ

I am 3 years post op from gastric sleeve and I want to do a revision, however the provider wanted me to have a esophageal x-ray before making the final decision, during this x-ray it was determined that I have a Hiatal Hernia. Has anyone else that has had the sleeve ever gone through this before and if so what did you do? I want or need to lose 60 pounds so that I don't have to do the revision any ideas on where I can start, I love water aerobics, walking and weights.

  26. Why don't more people get the MGB? I had mine on April 27th and it has gone so smoothly that I often forget I have it. My friend has a different surgeon and he is resistant saying that there are more complications and risk of reflux. However, they are bypassing the stomach so there can't be gastric reflux and there is a technique or stitch that they can do to prevent or minimize the risk of bile reflux. It seems with only 1 connection that the risks are smaller. Why do so many surgeons not offer this. I absolutely love mine! My recovery has been great and so far I've lost over 60 pounds and that includes a 3 week stall. I absolutely feel restriction which is …

Hi there. I had a revision from sleeve to mini bypass about 6 weeks ago. In that time, I've had quite a bit of diarrhoea and loose stools. Sorry for the TMI. It's really gross to me, too. My poop is green and smells UNHOLY. Is this going to last forever? I traveled to the Uk over the weekend and I was concerned about toilet access. Can anyone advise? Thank you.

So I had my mini 3yrs ago. About 6-7 weeks ago I had some chicken salad and filled up way too quickly. That night severe pain. After that I could not even look at food for 4 days (unheard of). I could drink. Since then pain on and off but feeling really unwell. Sometimes the feeling of eating too many green apples - kinda acidic. Sometimes just upset abdomen and discomfort. I am just not feeling right at all. I spoke to the surgeon today and he said I need a gastroscopy but told him I had one 2mths ago and was normal so sending him. I am also to have an Upper GI swallow. I asked him if it can seriously be a complication 3yrs later and he said yes. Anyo…

Hi all, I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 25 pounds. I find I have very low energy by mid morning and this lasts until around 4 pm. I am taking my vitamins and iron religiously, eating the right foods and making sure I have my required protein. I think I may be losing too fast, considering I am a low BMI (33) when I started. I wanted to start back at the gym by week 6 but all I want to do right now is curl up in bed and sleep. Has anyone else gone through this?

My dietologist telling me scary story of future: no alcohol, no sugar, no fat and spicy food for all my life after the surgery. And it can’t leave my head, because I’m only 21 and my future life will be in China. So there is a lot of “problem” food that I want to try after year or two. I really want to ask you all about your life after surgery. Do you able to have fun? How was your pregnancy after the surgery (if you had)? Hello, I'm due to have MGB later this month. Hoping to get some questions answered. Firstly, how long did it take before you returned to work? My surgeon advises 2 weeks until I can drive, and if I need will sign me off for four weeks. I'm a teacher and would be on my feet all day, although I could take it easy if needs be as I teach secondary/high school age. I know I will need to listen to my body, but I'd ideally get back to work as soon as possible so just exploring what's realistic. Secondly, how did you tackle questions from other people about your absence and then weight loss? I've told absolutely no one apart from my immediate family, and want to be able…

I apologize in advance, and I thank those who post to avoid discussing my food choices, since I have exhausted that topic with severe dietary modification over the last five years, though I welcome any feedback on food choices you made and your results.... I am considering a sleeve to MBP revision, and I have questions about gas. Since I was sleeved, I have struggled with gas terribly, explosive when I lay down, but not overly offensive. I am concerned about any increase in this symptom, and I wonder if some members might share their experience. How often does this happen? Is it daily? What length of bypass (cm) did you receive in your surgery? My specific question…

I loved my MGB, I had no issues for 11 months and lost 95% of my excess weight. I started having left sided abdo pain, had blood work and ultrasounds that were fine. I began having severe pain with nausea and vomiting 10 times a day for 3 weeks and ended up in hospital. Despite scope and CT I didn't get a diagnosis until 4 months and 4 re admissions to the hospital later. The area I live has very few bariatric surgery resources. I am now thankfully getting a revision to Roux n Y which should eliminate the problem, I was trialed on medication to help with the bile reflux and it ultimately failed.
