Hi again, I'm hoping to get my surgery in June and my hubby in July. How has it worked out for other husband/wife teams? Thinking I will go first so I don't see something that would make me change my mind! Also we have been losing together on Weight Watchers for our 6 month dr supervised stuff and that has gone well, especially because he is the cook in my house and our kids have just adapted to our eating habits. Any advice or words of wisdom for us? What about the mood swings...how does that work with two of you maybe being grumpy at the same time? Thanks so much Tracy W.

I am having a hard time believing that I finally have a date! I have waited SOOOO long and jumped through so many hoops. I am wondering when it is going to sink in. I have my final consultant with my surgeon in the morning, so maybe that will finally get it to sink in. One of my biggest problems, I have been eating everything I can get my hands on the last couple of days. I am sure tomorrow he will tell me when to start on my pre-op diet....think I need to start sooner than later! AACCCKKKKK....3 weeks from right now I will be post-op! YOWZA!

Had my Upper Gi test and other labs yesterday. The test wasn't bad, but the stuff they have you to drink was gross!! I felt like gagging, LOL! From what he could see, everything looked ok, no signs of reflux or an hiatal (sp) hernia. So thats good. The results will be sent to my surgeon,so I am guessing in the next 2-3 weeks I will be meeting with him again. I got a call from my case worker (I forgot her actual title). She just wanted to put a voice with the name (she was on Vacation when I had my 1st appt.). I thought that was nice, and she sounds nice and friendly. Most of my test are done. Next week I have my 3rd PCP visit. 3 down and 3 left. Whoot! Whoot! LO…

OMG, I'm on my 12th day of liquids, and I am turning into Medusa, evil snake-haired gorgon who could turn people to stone with a glare. I am POd at the whole world right now! My energy is low, I don't like the limited choices I have to drink, I went back to work about a week too soon and my boss is being SUCH a JERK to me because I am not able to work a full 8 hour day (after 5 hours the batteries are totally dead and I am useless at work). I want to eat, but can't; when I do consume something it's like I don't want it after two sips/slurps. I am on day 3 of my first stall and that sure isn't helping my mood any! It is all I can do not to snap and hiss at everyone -- I…

I was on OH board and there was a discussion about if someone should go back to their original surgeon for revision.. someone replied that yes they will go back and they did after having this complication with the sleeve: the original post link: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/failed_wls_second_time_around/4280217/How-do-you-feel-about/ Anyone experienced this ??? Should it be something that terrifies me as am considering the sleeve soon?

I got my approval letter in the mail yesterday for my revision. I will have the band to VSG and gall bladder surgery at the same time. I know several here have also had that surgery and would appreciate any advice you have. I am a little nervous about surgery but know that is normal. When I get really nervous I say to myself," you are going to have surgery no matter what because the gall bladder has to come out. this is just a little more." Seems to work a little. Is there a great deal more pain associated with gall bladder removal? Cathy

Today I am 10 days out. I am feeling better than I thought I would. I have more energy than I thought I would, even though its not a lot. I only took 6 days off from work and returned Tuesday, but I have been having some concerns and could really use some guidance from more experienced sleevers. When I was in the hospital I was in terrible pain. It didn’t feel like my stomach was accepting anything, i felt liquids were getting "stuck", and I was very nauseous. I threw up after having my swallow test and it was 4 oz. I was amazed my stomach was holding that much. Isn’t that a lot for 1 day post op, or should I not be concerned? I had my follow up yesterday and my…

I have been reading all the post. I am having surgery June 20th @ Jerusalem Hospital. I am self-pay and I have no other choice. My patient coordinator is Louise Johnson. Is anyone else going at the same time? I am nervous, but the weight is going to kill me. I have got to have this tool to help me achieve my goal. Excited and scared.... Ginger

Michelle and I- both one week from today- woke up today coming down with a cold. I had been fearing it a bit as my son came home with one and we worked together Saturday photographing a wedding- so I hit the airborne and emergen-c heavily but today I had a sore throat and tonight I feel like crap. I am praying it is a short one as canceling my surgery is NOT acceptable! How is everyone else doing? I've lost 11 pounds an am on day 8 of my liquids.... Finding the Protein drinks easier to deal with by adding 3 strawberries or 1/4 of a banana. Liking the Fuzzy Naval nectar a lot but knowing better than to stock up to much in case my tastes change aft…

So much has happened since my post. I had my band removed on April 13th. All of the pain I was having is just GONE!!! The day before surgery, my surgeon called to tell me that I was going to hopefully have surgery the next day as long as insurance approved. So on the morning of surgery, I headed to the hospital and while enroute I got the call from the insurance company that I had hoped for. I was approved to have my band removed and the sleeve done! I was dumbfounded and speechless. As my insurance was notified just two days prior. I arrived at the hospital and spoke with my surgeon. She said as long as there was not a ton of damage from my band she would do …

I have not been sleeved yet, but in my meeting with the surgeon, the doctor told me several times that I must not get pregnant during the rapid weight loss phase. My husband was with me at this meeting. We had a discussion afterward and decided we would abstain during fertile times. How are other Catholic sleevers dealing with this issue?

 Hi Everyone, Where do you want to be in 1 year from now? When I had weight loss surgery, I had no idea how long it was going to take me to lose weight; I was older than most of you and everyone l drops their weight at different speeds. Most all of us ladies know that men lose much faster than we do. For me it took me about 14 months to lose 105 pounds. I was thrilled it only took me that long. I know when I started this journey like the rest of you I wanted it to just melt off of me. As first it felt like it was, but I knew that would slow down and it did. What I want you to do it take it in small steps. Set you goals by weeks or by a month, and DO NOT p…

Well, I am 4 months out and the hair loss started about 3-4 weeks ago. Not balding by any means, but significant thinning. Have a small handful every day. I think I am vacuming up as much hair from me as from the cat if that tells you anything. I went to get my roots done and a trim yesterday, thinking that at least what I had left needed to be shaped up. I was talking with the beautician and she gave (sold) me a new set of products by Redkin. Now, I am always a bit of a sucker for a good product line and have more half used, had to try it beauty products in my bathroom closet than anyone I know. But, I decided that it was worth a shot. She did say redkin was g…

Hi everyone -- After a long journey (geographically and otherwise!), my surgery is tomorrow. God brought me here and his presence is so apparent as I get closer to doing something that will help, I hope, ultimately, allow me to thrive, be healthy and glorify Him. I would be so grateful for your prayers -- that the surgery goes well, that the Divine physician will be with all the people involved in my care and recovery... that I will be compliant with my post-op requirements and that I might relinquish my bondage to food and crave something greater than myself. Thanks and blessings to you all for being here! Yes, I'll post as soon as I feel up to it! Thank you.

Hi All, I will be 3 months post op on Monday and the hair loss has really kicked in. I am taking all of my Vitamins, which I buy from my surgeon and am taking additional Biotin. I am also getting in at a minimum of 60g of Protein a day. Is there anything else I can do to stop the hair loss? Or is this just something that has to run its course? How long does it usually last? Thanks again, Cheri

Hi all! I have yet to have the surgery but am definitely considering it. I've already set up my first meeting with the doctor but I have so many concerns about the long term. I've been reading lots of great and wonderful outcomes along side many struggles but have any of you had any problems with hair loss, vitamin deficiencies, or anything else that is less common? Are there any regrets? I'm really concerned that I will have all the wonderful results along side many new health issues brought on by the surgery itself. This is so hard ... everything in me wants this but at the same time, I'm so worried I will lose my hair, I won't be able to take in all the nutrients I ne…

I met with the surgeon, insurance specialist, nutritionist, etc. I went to the appointment with everything (I thought) and was ready to get my approval and get the process going! If they had told me they could take me that day, I would have RUN to the operating room. After meeting with the surgeon, I was so disheartened that I don't think I'm even going to pursue this anymore. First of all let me say that I was given the opportunity to have insurance that covered the surgery through my employer which covers WLS. I jumped on it, even though I have to pay a penalty of $130/month for 2 years because I didn't take the insurance when I first hired on 21 years ago (teac…

Pretty much everything about having this surgery and living with it forever. Hi... This is my first post here. I've been consuming blogs the way I once ate potato chips in my Quest for peace regarding the decision to have surgery. My story, briefly, is that I swore I would NEVER have surgery, telling myself that if I had to change my entire relationship with food post surgery, I may as well just do it now and spare myself the pain. Of course, I now weigh over 300 pounds, so that plan obviously hasn't worked. Two weeks ago I saw my ortho doc about knee replacement. He regretfully informed me that he absolutely refused to do surgery with so much potential for a poor…

I am overweight. I have been overweight almost my entire life. I am so sick and tired of being called names and being told what I "need" to do. :angry:NEWSFLASH***** I know I am fat. I have mirrors in my home and I look in them every single day. I dont need you telling me something I already know. WELL today my aunt came over to my moms house. First thing she says "hey big mama". Pissed me off but I moved on from it and simply said hi. I started going to the gym about 3 weeks ago and changed some of my eating habits prior to that and have lost 19 lbs. My response from her " you have more to get off, keep on working on it". Pissed again! Just simply say good …

Thought I would have a little 'vent'! I am really struggling here at staying positive. The infequency of ant scale or tape measure movement is really wearing me down. I am generally an upbeat and positive person and I can normally find the good in most situations; postive out of negative has been my motto since I was a teenager! I know, realisitcally, that I have done well with my sleeve. Clearly I am smaller, fitter and healthier... but my head is playing mind games with me. There are more 'dark' days than 'light' days at the moment. When I look in the mirror I just see faults and fat. My hubby doesn't understand this at all... the other day he commented on how…

I read these boards and read and read and read. I am being sleeved in 10 days. I want to have all of the information in my brain that I can. I was just wondering if there is ANYONE out there that has actually gained their weight back? I don't seem to see anyone that has. I don't even know if it is possible to do so since we can never have our stomachs be the original size again. Maybe a few lbs, but all of it? I know bypass patients that have, but are there any sleever's that have? Please inform me if you are or know someone that has. Thanks, Kelly

I am feeling totally and utterly alone today. I woke up crying. I am at work crying. I had to ask a coworker to get my calls. I am sure some of my weeping is the stupid birth control pill issue. I have noticed since I got my surgery date people?s ?support? has disappeared. Now I get ?Are really sure you want to do this? ?You know you can die from this? ?I bet you could accomplish this with diet and exercise? ?You are not really that fat, you just need to lose a little? or their other favorite thing is to say nothing at all. Basically since I got my surgery date no one has said anything to me. Not a ?How are you feeling, nervous, excited?? or ?You are going to be so happ…

I just posted these books in a separate thread but thought others may also benefit from them as well. I have been seeing a therapist for my bipolar disorder over the past few years and she has been instrumental in helping me cope with the changes in my mind and body since the sleeve. There are two books she suggested to me that I will recommend to other fellow sleevers who struggle with eating and mental health: Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think by Brian Wansink Changing Our food, Changing Ourselves: Women, Food, Relationships, & Culture by Karen Burke These have been very insightful and have helped me gain a better understanding of why we eat. …

Hi, I am new to this board. I was banded in July of 09. I have had a lot of problems with my band. It seems that as soon as my band gets tight enough to give me a little restricion, I get terrible acid reflux. I can't eat or drink anything for about 3-4 hours before going to bed. I need to sleep sitting in a chair and I often wake up choking on acid. I choke so violently that I end up puking. This in turn irratates my band and I get so tight that I can't keep any food down. Even liquids become a problem for me. I have been in for unfill after unfill. I have had 2 complete unfills. Currently I'm unfilled and my doctor said that it looks as if my band may have slipped. I am…

So I have totally been letting my brain win this week I have been eating like CRAP and last night really did it! My roomies went and got chicken which is great cuz it's good Protein and such. Well I ate two chicken strips, a few fries and a 1/4 of a biscuit in a VERY SHORT amount of time and I was paying for it!! I came SO close to throwing up, it scared me I was actually in the bathroom with my mouth producing A LOT of "water" just like before I throw up but thank goodness I never did (#1 reason I did sleeve instead of band, I HATE to throw up). Now today, I have been in the bathroom twice before 0730 That is not like me and it's bad, stomach cramps and all …

Hi y'all, I've searched and searched in the forum, but I didn't see anything to address this yet: I am 3 and a half weeks post op, I've been healing great, and sticking very close to the prescribed diet, no fancy "experimentations" or anything. I get all my pills, use Protein drinks and get my fluids. After surgery,I was two days Clear liquids, then on to cream Soups and puddings, which I did very well with. I did my follow up appt, and the doc said I could move to mushies, but the transition to anything with more substance than a cream Soup is challenging! I assumed it would be, I'm just wondering how long it lasted for you all, and if I should pull back and take it eas…

Hi! I'm scheduled for sleeve surgery on June 1st. I'm excited and nervous and highly impatient! I'm struggling with this, and I need some help.... I'm finding myself very concerned and at times wondering if I should even have the surgery because of what it's going to do emotionally to my daughter. She's 14, bright, beautiful, somewhat popular, gifted in many ways... but like her mom, she's overweight. Her body image is so out of whack - when she looks in the mirror she sees a severely obese girl though she's not. She's 5'6 and 190 lbs, and honestly, she doesn't look that. She tries to "diet", she tries to eat better, she's an active dancer... and then she gets do…

What has changed in my life since I have lost 105 pounds? I was thinking as my husband and I are planning a trip to Europe in September 2011 how much my life has changed in the last 2 ½ years. 5 years ago I would not have considered going on this type of long vacation. If you are thinking about having Weight Loss Surgery, these things don’t even hit your radar screen right now, because I had NO clue that so many things would change in my life after losing weight. 1. I always liked myself; I just hated the body I was stuck in. WOW I had no idea how different I would feel about myself after my weight loss. 2. I know I walked with much more confidence afte…

I am getting really, really discouraged. The first three weeks after surgery I lost about 6 lbs. a week. In the last 9 weeks I have lost only 4 lbs.total. Twelve weeks after surgery my total loss is 22 lbs. What the heck am I doing wrong? I monitored my eating for four days to be sure of what I suspected--that I am eating no more than 800 calories a day. How can I not lose on that many calories a day? My nutritionist tested my resting metabolic rate and said I burn 1800 calories a day at rest. What the hey is going on here? I will say I do not eat especially low carb, but do I really need to with that few calories? Help, somebody. Did I go through all this in…

http://www.scienceda...10419003651.htm Interesting; note that this isn't saying "carbs are bad," but for fatty liver (hepatostearosis), which many/most of us likely had or have, it DOES imply that low carb diets may be the best way to improve that condition. Considering that an alarmingly large number of obese people die of liver failure, this is important information, and one more piece of good news for those of us on the road to "normalsville."

Went to see my surgeon today. They supplied me with a sheet that has my starting weight and current weight.( Which the starting weight is a little off. and the current weight is off. I go by my scale here at home.) Then it has my EWL as of today. I was shocked to see what they decided my goal weight should be. I was like really???? 122.4 pounds. I haven't seen that since junior high school. LOL..... They then said that I shouldn't go by that. Where I feel comfortable is where I should be. We will see what my end result will be. They said that I was on target with the EWL percentage I'm at 23 %. I also found out that my sleeve will end up with a capacity of 8 ounces but th…

I was sleeved on March 16. I have had really good weight loss (until this week). It is my first week to have solid foods. I have been very, very lucky that I haven't gotten sick on anything. I am a little bit at a loss as what to eat. I am trying to keep the carbs down, (and this is a struggle...I sure can't figure out how anyone stays under 30 carbs.) I also haven't felt a restriction yet. I haven't lost any weight since I started the solid food, and of course, that makes me very nervous. Not sure if it is just because of the change in diet or a little stall or what... Would love to hear from the other March Sleevers and see how everyone is doing. I wou…
