  1. Started by Dawn,

Okay so I've seen a few posts here and there about different issues after surgery so I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this. I was very constipated a few weeks ago when I saw my doc for my 3 month visit so she put me on a stool softener. I've been taking them twice a day since and in the last week I have had three days of really bad cramping and major diarrhea. I am thinking maybe I should only take one stool softener a day instead of two? I have been on them before (when I was preggo) but never had this issue. I haven't changed my diet any, eating the same stuff I have been for months now!

Anybody else going to be there the first week in April? Excited. Nervous. Anxious. Scared. Unsure. Certain! All normal from what I've been reading up on. Counting the days..

  3. G'Day All Well found out today that my Dr's office hasn't sent in my stuff to insurance as they don't have the required paperwork for a Dr's supervised 6 months of diet and exercise, they never said anything about this before today and I have paid for all the tests and so on to be done expecting to be done later this month from what the Dr had said on my first consult. My band to me has slipped but the woman on the phone from Dr's office says that the report says band is OK, yet I have a copy of all my adjustments and upper GI work on CD and looked at the films myself (I know I'm no Dr but after 12 years of adjustments I can read them ) and the pouch and band have move…

I expected the bat wings and they don't bother me nor does the loose belly and back flab but the flab on my thighs is a whole another matter when I walk it flaps and waves from side to side. I thought that my butt and legs would not change they were toned with good muscle definition before surgery I did not realize that there was so much fat and now it looks like I am wearing a skin coat two sizes to be every thing is wrinkled my forearms my thighs, my butt and when I twist side to side everything from my neck down wrinkles up. Well, started feeling bad about 6 days ago and at first thought I had a flu bug. Got so bad Thursday night that I went to the ER. I had one of those do nothing doctors and was sent home after being pumped full of morphine for the pain. Called the surgeon's office and was goven a Monday appointment...had I not been so out of it from pain, morphine, and lack of sleep i might have had enough sense to explain what had happened. The pain got so bad late Sunday night that I went back to the ER. Again tests were run and I was told there was nothing wrong with me. As I rolled around on the bed holding my gut and crying with pain I was told that abdominal pain was not a reason fo…

My kids are 4 & 7 and I'm just not sure what or how much to tell them about my VSG. They know I had surgery but I've been very vague about why. Now they CANNOT understand why I'm eating soup with baby spoons while they have my favorite foods. I'm torn between telling them because I want them to understand and not explaining it because I don't want them telling their friends/teachers, etc. Now....I haven't been keeping it a secret, but haven't been broadcasting it yet either though. Anyway, just wondering how you guys have handled this.

  9. I've been giving myself a prescription injection every 2 weeks for like 8 months now, I've noticed that I have more problem poking through the skin now, contrary to "normal" advice I found that slowly inserting the needle is less painful for me than jabbing it in quickly. Now when I do this I can't break the skin very easily, I now have the jab through - which just about puts me on the ceiling! So does the skin draw up and get thicker? I suppose it makes sense it would strech and get thinner as we gain weight too.

Since my surgery even though I stopped drinking diet soda it seems to have gotten worse. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

  12. Back in the bad old days (last August) when I walked in a joint and grabbed a size 24 or 26 off the rack I knew how it was gonna fit. Now that I have lost a few pounds, I can't find diddly that fits! I do have the problem that if it fits in the belly, my butt and thighs make me look like I am wearing 30 day shitters. I've kinda gotten used to that. What I can't understand is why I have to put labels on my pants so I remember which 14's are the ones that run big and which 18's I shouldn't get rid of yet. I have some of my clothes from the 70's and I know it will be a long while before they fit since they didn't so vanity sizing then and nobody had heard of size ZERO! I …

I am over 3 months out and VERY happy with my weight loss success. The only thing is, I notice my eating ability changes day to day. At the weekend I went out to a greek restaurant and could barely touch more than a bit of lamb. The next day I had just less than half a slice of toast and I was STUFFED. But then on other days, like today I can eat more. I have been feeling so ill and made myself a piece of toast and managed a whole slice of it. Later on in the day I had a small low fat side dish indian potato and vegetable curry for 180 calories and could eat it in just around 30 minutes with a few breaks. Other days, I feel like I can't eat much at all and I'm worried …

There has been a lot of back and forth between my various doctors and insurance. We hemmed and hawed about submitting since my insurance company changed their requirements and I didnt formally meet the new "6 months no smoking" requirement. But the wonderful woman at my doctors office got me approved today for my original surgery date of April 18th. Now everything is moving so quickly. I had canceled all of the plans I had made for work and my daughter when they told me it probably wouldnt happen, but it is and I am thrilled! Hooray for officially being one of the lucky "April Sleevers!"

I am 6 month post-op today. I was hoping this would be a happy post about an awesome weight loss total, but it's not. I am trying to stay positive, but its so hard. I gained a half pound last week, and this week I will probably gain too. I weigh in the morning. Well, it's 420am right now,but I will weigh when I wake up. I have been exercising (walking), so not sure if that has caused this gain. I have been eating really bad stuff, and that is more likely the cause of the gain. I haven't had a stall once, so maybe thats what this is. I have never even stayed the same weight in a week. I just let myself have a "free" day on Monday's after I weigh, and that was the start of …

So, I can not help but wonder....does the sleeve work for everyone or does it fail for some? I know that it is a tool and if it is abused, it will not work, but there are so many success stories that I read and I don't think I ever hear anything negative. I wonder if it seriously fails for anyone? Does anyone out there know of anyone that it just did not work for? I guess the reason I ask is that I have such a HUGE fear of failure. Again, I know it is something that I have to use and that if I don't do the work, it will not work, but I am so afraid that it is not going to work for me! Thanks for listening. Kelly

I was sleeved on March 16th and have not had many problems at all since I came home. I can drink the Protein shakes just fine and am getting all my liquids in (with Water or crystal light). Mornings seem to be the hardest for me...just trying to get out of bed, but once I move around I feel pretty good. I do however still feel terribly bloated and am 2.5 lbs over my surgery weight. I was wondering when everyone else's bloating and swelling from surgery went away?

So it's getting closer to my surgery date (13 days...yipee!!) I find myself with a long list of "what ifs" like a lot of others do. One of my many wonders is if this is going to turn out being another surgery like some in the past, a fad if you will. Years ago there was stomach stapling then there's the LapBand which seemed really great but now from some of the stories I've read on here seems not so great. I guess I just wonder if years from now Doctors and sleevers are gonna look back and think "hmm, maybe this wasn't such a great idea after all." I know there is some longterm research for gastrectomies and such but I still worry. I think the whole gherlin thing is …

I have not even lost 50% of my weight and have slowed down SO MUCH. 35. Reading the different posts, I notice almost all have a goal weight. I am curious as to how you choose the number you did. I haven't been under 200 lbs. since I was 17 so that is what I most care about but BMI charts say I should be about 165 to be at a healthy weight (I'm 5'9"). However, when I was down to 235 a few years ago I was literally wearing a 12/14. I can't imagine what size I would be at 160- I don't want to be a scare crow. In a side note, my sister is 5'10", 135 and a size 2 (yes, I'd hate her if I didn't love her so much) but her bone structure has always seemed much smaller than mine . Surgery was at 7:30am this and Dr. Goodnight said it went great. Had some hefty pain when I first woke up, but GasX strips seem to really be helping that. I have mainly been complaining about that "cotton mouth" feeling. I found something GREAT at Walmart and they have really helped with the dry mouth thing. They are made by Halls. SF "Refresh"candy/cough drop...says "mouth watering" on the package. Will post more when I'm not so sleepy, but cannot say enough grat things about Dr. Goodnight and the great team at Summit Medical Center. He took a pic of my stomach for me after taking it out. I'll try to figure out how to upload it soon.

I knew that I have always had bad posture. Now that I'm getting some weight off, my tail bone HURTS! Have to sit down super easy because it hurts on the bone right there. I'm nowhere near goal either. It's a literal pain in the rear, but at least I'm more active in sitting properly instead of slouching. Had a huge laugh when King of the Hill came on the other night. Hank was wearing butt padding for his posture. I seriously thought it was a good idea, then busted up laughing at myself! LOL Just had to share. Surely some of you know what I'm talking about ;P

Here are my specifics: Surgery Date Weight : 335 lbs Current Weight : 185 lbs (which I've been maintaining for at least 1.5 years with absolutely no trouble). Height: 5'8" Sizes : 10 on the bottom (sometimes 12 in jeans), 6 on the top. Measurements: 35 x 27x 45 (Yeah, I know). Ask me anything.
