Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals

Reviews and experiences with weight loss surgeons and hospitals. Surgery costs, hospital stays, and what to expect.

Wonderful doctor and successful surgery!!!!! Will celebrate banded two years on Dec 31st and it was the best decision ever. I have lost 40 pounds and now I average about a 1-2 pound loss per month, but I hadn't had a fill in about 6 months. This is fine with me. Go to MMH and you will be handled very carefully and patiently. They even let me stay an extra night to rest comfortably.

What a fantastic surgeon! I am so happy to have found him after an exhaustive research period. Anyone in the Los Angeles, Ventura County area should really consider this doctor. I can't say enough about his bedside manner and skill as a surgeon. He takes his job very seriously but puts his patients needs and concerns at the top of his list. I am a cash paying patient and his office is very competetive with pricing. IM me if you have any further questions. I would be happy to tell you my whole story. Great experience!!!! Christine

Is there anyone over in the Eastern side of NC that does the VSG? Raleigh is 4 hours from us, and Charlotte is about 7. I'd love to find someone closer!

I am a patient of Dr. Jay and I was just wondering if anyone else out there was too?! I am scheduled to have surgery on December 3rd at Forest Park Medical Center. Dr. Jay came highly recommended and I am very excited for what my future holds. Hope to find some of his other patients here. Good luck to everyone!

I had a lap band that was removed after a lot of problems in 08/2010, and I am now looking to have the gastric sleeve. I am a self pay so money is a huge issue, and will help in part determine the choice of doctor that I use in Mexico. I had my lap band placed in Mexico and have been back there several times, so I am not afraid to have surgery there but I feel I need to make an informed choice. What I would like is for anyone that will to please tell me your doctors name, what the cost of your sleeve was, what kind of staples and or suturing were used during surgery, and what kind of leak tests were performed. The price is the second deciding factor with the suturing/stap…

  8. All of my paperwork is in and I've been scheduled for the December Seminar. What does the timeline seem to be from here? I am about 3 months behind where I wanted to be because some of my paperwork got filed at my PCP's office instead of being faxed over. Hopefully you guys can give me a rough idea. Thanks!

Hello, I have been to two diff bariatric surgeons. I am in need to find a good dr. I have insurance so that is not a prob. Does anyone recomend a surgeon in the plano, carrollton, dallas tx area? I am tired of getting the run and around. I tried Dr nick from the Nicholson Clinic, and due to his rude and condescending office staff (Lisa) I will no longer be going to him. I had my heart set on him bc ive read such great reviews and he was extremely nice. But I do not tolerate ppl disrespecting me and bc of her I will not be using him =/ I am frustrated and sad. I need to find another dr and I just cant seem to find another one that is close, offers support groups, and g…

  16. Just saw this part of the forum and thought I'd give my surgeon some well deserved credit! Not only did the surgery go smoothly, but the pre and post op care was phenominal! If I have an issue, all I have to do is call or drop him an email and he gets back to me within a few hours. He called the day after surgery to check on me too! He's a great doctor and I would recommend him and his team at the Surgical Weight Loss Centre (SWLC) to anyone!

I was sleeved on October 18th. I have Oxford insurance and I was one of his few patients who were approved for this surgery. His program is pretty comprehensive, he recommends and his office sells at cost Protein shakes and Vitamins for pre-opt and post opt. Griffin Hospital located in Derby, CT was great. They have received funding for an exercise program for bariactric patients, monthly support meetings with recipe sharing and a walking program. the patients have a clothing exchange which comes in pretty handy when you're losing weight quickly. Dr. Jossart is THE BEST!!! He did my surgery and saved my life many times when I got so upset over my father's death, vomiting hard caused me to perforate. 1) Don't vomit after VSG. 2) Don't take liquid Vitamins right after VSG. 3) If you feel like you've perforated, get your surgeon on the phone and get back to the hospital asap. 4) If the ER doctors won't listen, make them talk to your surgeon. I spent 4 months in the hospital totally npo because the idiots at Kaiser put a drain into my abdomen and put it through the stomach. For months, they couldn't figure out why it wasn't healing. Dr. Jossart had me sent back to him and he had a stent put in to get …

  25. This will actually be my third seminar. I first went to one in DT Brooklyn, turns out they didn't accept my insurance, so I wised up (or so I thought) and called NYU prior to my seminar, made my appts etc. and after calling to confirm that my insurance was ok I was totally disappointed. NYU is all about the money. All they keep mentioning and asking for money up front even if you have out of network insurance. To begin with my nutritionist/phych/surgeon consults were out of pocket (490, 250 and 250) thats almost $1K and I hadn't even started. On top of that they push you to get the liquid diet stuff from them. Another thing is that I read that the NYU drs are in tro…

  28. I feel so safe with Dr. Snyder. I feel like he is a very concerned and smart doctor. He always tells me how it is (wether I like his thoughts or not). But I just wanted to know if anyone could tell me about their experience with him. He is doing my surgery on Nov 11th. I'm a little nervous but I just want to know I am in safe hands. Does he have good surgical ethics? Did you feel safe? Was your surgery a success and what kind did you have? How was your experience the day of surgery? Would you go to him again if you had to?? Sorry so many questions just want to know any info you are willing to share with me. Thank you in advance for your answers.

  29. I just scheduled my sleeve surgery for Dec 15th at Hurley Medical Center in Filnt, MI The whole process was a lot easier than I expected! 30. I started my journey to being banded with Dr. Chua by attending the mandetory seminar 07/08. I have had a problem with weight my entire life though there was a period of time that I had lost about 50# and kept most of it off for 7 years. Even with that loss, I was still obese but felt much better. Last year my cholesterol and triglycerides came back as borderline high. Combined with my hypertension, I asked my PCP if the Lap Band might be a good choice for me. She gave me a referral to the Sinai Bariatric center and I attented the seminar. At the same time I inquired with my insurance company if they covered bariatric surgery. They did but required a six month physcial …

  35. Last year when I began my process of looking at bariatric surgery I first contacted Dr. Vaughan's office and went to the seminar that he puts on month for potential patients. It was a very informative seminar and he seems like a very personable person. He had a patient talk in the seminar that had gastric by-pass done several years ago who had lost a ton of weight too. Dr. Vaughan pushed gastric by-pass as the way to go but did also say he will do lapband proceedures as well. After a week I contacted his office about what steps to take next and we started looking into if my insurance would cover the proceedure. Well like so many others out there my insurance would not c…

Hi All, I've been watching this site for awhile now and have decided to look into getting the sleeve done. Both my wife and I were banded two years ago and she has done amazingly well, but I on the other hand have not. I am looking to possibly do a revision to sleeve, but wanted to know if anyone had a good local surgeon recommendation they could give me. We live in Olympia, but I would be willing to drive anywhere in the state. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Clive

I'm new here! Someone just directed me to this board. I wonder if anyone knows anything about this. It's also posted on another board but I couldn't get much info there. Here is the post, I thought I would pass this along. Obesity Solutions International has a promotion for the VSG. It's for a very limited time. The VSG performed in a Full Service Hospital is $5000! The VSG performed in a 24 hour Surgery Center is $4500! That's a great price! If interested you can call, 800-676-6602.

OK, i did find a local doctor in Metro Atlanta who will give me the follow-up care after surgery in Mexico. However, he charges an "upfront fee" of $2500.00 to take over your case. This does not include the $152 office visit fee. Anyone else know of a local bariactric doctor who will accept new patients?

  47. I had the lapband procedure on October 21, 2008 by Dr. Donald Paul Schwab in Houma, La. He & his staff were so helpful & informative. He treated me like I was his family....not his patient. Anytime I have questions or need a little encouragement he is there for me. In the beginning I wasn't losing much weight (because I was addicted to Coca-Cola and was drinking a liter a day after surgery) When I brought this to his attention he didn't scold me or put me down. He talked me through it & helped me to ween myself off of the soft drinks so that I can now successfully lose the weight a little faster. He told me...."Failing is not an option & I will do anything…
