I've spent months and months researching various WLS procedures and there have already been some ups & downs! When I finally made the decision to have WLS, I found out that my employer had placed an exclusion on it so I couldn't get it done that way. Realizing I was going to be a self-payer was tough to handle. Once that finally sank in, I started saving and cutting back in order to finance the surgery. I realized quickly that it was going to take me at least two years to save the money so I started pursuing the financing options that I found out about from all of you on this board (thanks to all of you!!!) Well, I found out today that I've got my funding!!!!…

I am very excited to say that I will be using Dr. Goldstein for lap band surgery in October/November!!! I thoroughly enjoyed his seminar and after my initial consult with him was even more comfortable with my choice! Anyone in the area undecided on who to choose? See one of Dr. Goldstein's seminars and you'll understand what I mean!!

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Morales on May 16th. Has anyone on here had lapband performed by him? If so, how did it go and how would you rate him? He's in the office with Dr. Scott. I'm desperately trying to settle my nerves.

If anyone is looking for a doctor in NJ I highly recommend Dr. Ajay Goyal, Dr. Angela Jack and Dr. Stephen Forrester at the NJ Bariatric Center. I was sleeved on 1/31/11 and I received top-notch care from day one. Everything including the educational seminars, websites, insurance authorization process, and most of all, the care pre and post op was excellent! Their team made this process easy for me! P.S. I'm doing well! I've lost 55 lbs. and feeling great!!!

I am having my sleeve done at Kaiser Richmond May 9th and I did not even think to ask if my husband can stay with me or not!!!! I am sure he would be much more comfortable in a hotel, but I just would like to know if he CAN stay. We live 2.5 hours away from the hospital and going home is not an option. Thanks, Kelly

Dr. Duncan is my surgeon. I have not had the surgery yet... in 4 days, but our first meet I am totally sure he will be awesome! His bedside manner (ha Ha) consult was so people friendly and he is knowledeable and does not seem presumptious but he is confident. I like that! Will review more after the surgery!

I am very likely going to go with Dr. Chae since sky ridge is the preferred vendor for my insurance. I wanted to see if anyone has had any experience. He's the head of bariatrics so he does seem to specialize in WLS. I'm just curious of anyone's been to him. I've only found one person who's posted anything and it was a little too positive, ya know?

Hi, I am scheduled tentatively to have my surgery on May 16th with Dr. Kelly in Tijuana. I might be going alone, or I might be going with my older brother. What sorts of things could he do while he is there? Any/all tips for shopping places, eating places, fun places, activities, whatever you think will be helpful. Also, if anyone who has been this year can talk about the safety issue, I am sure he would love to hear that.

Hi everyone! I'm just now reseaching the Vertical Sleeve. This is also the first time I've ever joined a Chat Room, so I really am a newbee to everything. I have been corresponding with Dr. Joya's staff in PV. It sounds good for $10,000.00; flight, hospital room for 2 nights, 5 star hotel room for three nights, all medical expenses included, taxis to and from the airport, hotel and hospital. Who has had their surgery done in Mexico? Who has used Dr. Joya for their surgeon? Is this a good price for all included? What other doctors would you recommend from Mexico? My husband will be home from Afghanistan on July 21 and if I have this surgery sometime in…

Dr. LePort who has the Obesity Center @ Orange Coast Memorial has a wonderful program. My friend had Dr. LePort for her surgeon & I had Dr. Ali for mine, who is also in that same group of Doctors. No complaints at all. I just found out that Dr. LePort has purchased the school my two children attend too. I'm sure he will bring the same professionalism to our school that he has in his practice. I have had no problems with my band (Feb. 7, 2011) and have lost 40 pounds so far. I am very happy! thanks.

Hello All, I would like to have a consultation to weigh my options on whether or not I want to do the sleeve. GHI covers the procedure but when I called them they could not give me a Doctor's names to get a consultation. I live on Staten Island but prefer to go to NJ if GHI is accepted in network. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks -Stacy

 Hi Everyone Listed blow is the meaning of Attitude. Attitude: A position of the body or manner of carrying oneself. A state of mind or feeling with regard to some matters. I realized that during my weight loss my entire ATTITUDE changed about how I thought and what I was feeling. I always had confidence in myself, but my confidence really started to increase as I lost weight. My new ATTITUDE was that I could for the first time in a long time start to believe that I was going to achieve my weight loss goal. The closer I got to my goal my weight loss seemed to slow down—now what. But, with my new and improved ATTITUDE I knew what I needed …

All I can say is WOW!!! I was banded Oct. 6th. I was absolutely terrified to say the least (was actually crying a little). He helped reassure me right before surgery and as I was ready to deal with all this pain...there was none. My abs felt tight like I did a ton of sit ups...but no pain. The incisions are small (2 pokes 1 really small one, 1 small one and 1 in the belly button). I had no gas pain so I am assuming he got rid of it before he closed me up {thank you :-)}. All I can say is Dr. Ali is absolutely awesome and if I had to do it again....I would definitely have Dr. Ali do the surgery.

I was banded by Dr. Ali on 4/22/10. He did a great job -- I had absolutely ZERO pain. Very small scars. He's also a very kind and compassionate person, with great bedside manner. And unlike some surgeons I've read about on this forum, he is patient and understanding during the "bandster hell" time, when you don't have good restriction yet. He has always been very supportive and positive. He give nice generous fills: my first was 5.5 CCs and the second was 1.5. This has put me at perfect restriction. I am thrilled with my band and would recommend Dr. Ali to anybody.

What has changed in my life since I have lost 105 pounds? I was thinking as my husband and I are planning a trip to Europe in September 2011 how much my life has changed in the last 2 ½ years. 5 years ago I would not have considered going on this type of long vacation. If you are thinking about having Weight Loss Surgery, these things don’t even hit your radar screen right now, because I had NO clue that so many things would change in my life after losing weight. 1. I always liked myself; I just hated the body I was stuck in. WOW I had no idea how different I would feel about myself after my weight loss. 2. I know I walked with much more confidence afte…

Hi everyone, I'm scheduled for surgery on May 9th with Dr. Richard Pucci. I've heard great things about Dr's Pucci(s) ~ they are 3 brothers in same practice located in Suffern, NY and NJ. Wanted to know if anyone out knows of Dr. R. Pucci? Good experiance? Also, Dr. recommended I have surgery at Oradell Surgical Ambulatory Center vs. Good Samaritan Hospital ~ he states that center is state of art and the attention/after care rec'd by nurses will be better here. Anyone heard of this center? Experiances? SOOO nervous about all of this so any feedback will help. Thanks. :0/

I just wanted to write a review of my surgeon, Dr Bruce Applebaum, and post it, should another person like myself from El Paso come here for advice. Initially, I came to the Sierra Providence Obesity Clinic. They gathered my paperwork, I had a visit with their in house nutritionist, and with their in house shrink. There was like a 400 question test that I had to take and bubble in, it felt like the sats, I was nervous  There are several surgeons associated with the Sierra Providence Obesity Clinic. Dr. Applebaums name jumped out at me because he had previously performed a hernia surgery on my stepfather. After all those requirements were met, I wor…

Hi everyone, I remember when I was thinking about having sleeve surgery, I sat back and read all these posts, until I felt comfortable enough to join in and ask my million questions. I had such great support and wonderful people who helped me along my weight loss journey. I always promised I would pay it forward. So I am here 2 1/2 years after my "sleeve" surgery. I had the most amazing experience. I am now 65 years old and thought that maybe I was too old to do this. Boy, was I wrong. I picked Dr. Aceves to do my surgery. That was the best choice I could have ever made. I happend to work with a good friend who had Dr. Aceves for her doctor and had WLS with …

Dr. Castaneda performed my gastric bypass surgery in December, 2010. Even pre-operatively I was amazed that Dr. Castaneda was always available by email and promplty answered all of my questions. Once I arrived in Mexico Dr. Castaneda continued to be available for any questions before and after surgery. I was nervous about having surgery in another country, but by the time my surgery day arrived, I felt extremely confident with Dr. Castaneda's surgical competence. I had no surgical complications and continued to heal well once arriving back home. As an RN, I was very reassured by the process Dr. Castandea used both during surgery and post-op to ensure there were no…

Hi, I just wanted to share my story about my 105 weight loss. It was a life changing event for me!! It is never too late in life to consider having WLS (Weight Loss Surgery). I was 63 years old when I had the surgery. I never had a weight problem until after having two children. And then I seemed to struggle with being overweight for years. I now know all the reason why, I became less active, and ate more than I should have. I have tried most of the diets that you have tried, some with success and most no success. But, I would always manage to gain the weight back because I NEVER changed my lifestyle. My top weight was 235 lbs and I am 5’3” tall…

I decided that this forum needs some information on this Doctor. He's great! He performed my lap band surgery on August 25, 2010 and my gall bladder surgery on November 5, 2010. I breezed through both surgeries with no complications. I just had my fourth fill and have officially lost 70 pounds. It has been exactly eight months since i started my pre-op diet. He's conservative, which I like. I feel absolutely safe with him. His office has all the support you need. I never see a PA or someone else when I have an appointment. He does my fills. I would recommend him very highly.

I'm going to get banded (hopefully) in March-ish of 2011 by Dr. Ramanathan. I met him in August 2010 and he was very nice. I also saw his PA, Kelly. I noticed there were no posts in his section so I might as well be the first. Check out my blog I just started: http://stealingskinny.blogspot.com/
