Hey guys, Finally talked into making a profile at the website. I must say, it feels good to finally register and be open about my decision. I must say, it sucks not having the support I need from my friends, but this is something that needed to be done, and I'm ready to get my questions answered again. I'm from South Florida, I've been researching this for years, and now, I have Insurance that covers it 100% minus co-pay. Thanks.

Hi, my name is Bonnie, and I am a Diet Coke addict! Its not a deal breaker, but its gonna be a hard one for me! I have tried a few times over the years to kick the habit, but to no avail. Anyways, I know I need to be done with it, and I will, but doesn't mean I have to like it! HA! I am hoping and praying to have my surgery in Feb '11. I become eligible for Medicare on Feb 1st. Does anyone know if I have to wait until then to start the process? Or can I start getting things lined up ahead of time?

Hi all! I've been a lurker for about a month and had my first visit with the surgeon on Mon. First off I'm a wife and mother to two beautiful girls adopted from China (I like getting my babies from a 5 star hotel and shopping afterward!!!LOL). I've was a chubby kid from 5 years old on so it's hard to imagine a life without the extra weight but I hope to find out what thats like!!! Thankfully my insurance allows me not to have to do any stuff like Dr. supervised diets ect. Basically our policy says if you are over a certain BMI that you don't have to pass go or collect $200...please go directly to the surgeon! For once being extra chubby works in my favor, LOL! I …

So I went to a seminar for the Lap band and the doctor confused me. He talked about all the WLS available including the Duodenal Switch. He told me that since my BMI was 40.1 that he would do the lap band if I really want it. But then he told me if I want the best results then the duodenal switch. But I don’t know if I want parts of my body cut up, but then I don’t want to get the lap band and not lose any weight. I see so many success stories on here and I want to be one of them. Can some of you please tell me your stories with the lap band and what you went through???? The good and the bad, or if you know any one that has the DS done.

Hi. My name is Ashley. I have always been the largest person in my extended family. I was always shy and introverted because of my weight. It took me a long time to get comfortable being out in public. To this day I avoid large groups of people. I began putting on weight when I was 9 years old. My family doctor told my mom it was just "baby fat" and I would be fine, no reason for concern. As the weight continued to gain and I became the largest person in my grade every year at school, I began seeking out answers. Eventually, I diagnosed myself with "Stein-Leventhal Syndrome" and went to see a gynocologist at age 17. He confirmed the diagnosis, saying it was more commonly …

  10. Hi, this is my first time here. I have a question for all of you "banded" people out there.... I had surgery in late October of 2008 (about a year and a half ago). I have lost about 80lbs. Amazing, i wouldn't trade my decision for anything in the world. HOWEVER!! I am told that i look amazing! And i do see it, and i am very happy with my progress so far, but the person i see in the mirror and the person that i see in my head are two VERY different people. In my head i see this heavy self conscious girl. Is anyone else having trouble trying to put mirror over mind?!:party::smile2:

My story is much the same as many others on this board. I had my surgery on October 19 and it's been a rocky road to recovery since. I spend my days muddling through, trying to follow Dr's guidelines and maintaining a clear perspective on where I've been until now. I still cannot eat any solid food. I keep a food diary, mostly so I can see how my tolerances and habits are changing over time. I try to maintain a healthy vitamin and protein balance, but it is difficult to do this and maintain hydration. Yesterday I tried a few spoonfuls of Black Bean soup and couldn't keep it down. I'm hoping this will change and I will be able to eat more normally as time goes on. …

  27. Ok, not sure if anyone knows this but I got bit by the sugar demon last weekend. I had some chips over the weekend and it led to some very bad habits and cravings coming back. I'm way too early out to be dealing with this so I had to shut it down quick! This binge did last a few days, but early this week I picked myself back-up and admitted to everyone my shame... It got me no where; I went a whole week without losing any weight. I'm a streaky loser, and I'm at the time of the month where I should be losing the most. So, I knew I'd messed up. The good thing? I didn't gain any! I'm also the type that can gain FAST! So, I guess I didn't hurt myself too much...…

Hi Everyone, I'm a little concerned about my stupid decision. I had Sleeve Plication on 10/22 and was really good about the liquid diets for the first week, but I felt hungry and miserable the entire time. I mean, sleepy, tired, hungry, like mental pain... On week 2, I started the full liquids, but by mid-week, I was already eating the mushy foods. By the end of the week, I was already eating regular foods of all kinds. I haven't felt much restriction of any kind. I just finished week 3 and have only lost 6 pounds. I can't seem to get rid of the hunger pangs (literally feel like I'm starving every 2 1/2 hours.) Did I screw everything up? What can I do to fix it? …

So I fianlly decided Lap Band was the way to go for me, met with a surgeon who I like and have started the paperwork for my insurance. So here is my dilema...In the last 3-4 months I have lost 17 pounds. I have done it by cutting out processed flour and sugar, no HFCS especially and working out. I walk...or rather did until a couple of weeks ago when something got in the way of my schedule and I just stopped going to the gym. Problem is I have had PCOS a long time and I am worried that my crappy metabolism wont do its thing even with the surgery.
