Hello Everyone, This is the first time I have ever joined a support group online. I hope to have my surgery in 4-5 months. I have a lot of questions and I'm hoping you all can help me. 1. How long were you in the hospital? 2. How long did it take you to get back to work? 3. How long did it take for you to eat bread? 4. Most people talk about getting the rouenY (spelling?) procedure over the sleeve. Are all of you happy with the sleeve surgery? 5. What are the most common side affects or complications? Thanks to you all for your advise and answers to my questions llipps

Hello everyone... I am new to the community and this is the first real forum i decided to join to discuss my weight loss. I am scheduled to get my lap band this Friday around 7am. I am looking forward to the next step in life but at the same time i am completely nervous. I am also currently on my pre op liquid diet which I am totally hating. I can only have 2 Special K shakes and 3 Atkins Shakes. Some chicken broth and sugar free Jello. I wish that I can have so much more than that.. but i cant.. I haven't lost that much on the liquid diet...but hey...i don't see that it working but its what they wanted me to do....

  6. http://www.marieclaire.com/sex-love/dating-blog/overweight-couples-on-television It's actually titled "Should Fatties Get a Room?" (yes, you read that right!) It was linked on a medical obesity blog I follow regularly. The physician referred to it as "the most vile article about the obese I have ever read." Please peruse the comments, too, there's quite a few. I've already sent an e-mail to the editor (JoannaColes at hearst com), so if you are as riled up as I was, do that - and post a comment, as well, as the author's been offering half-assed apologies after the backlash.

Hello all, I am a newbie......I just got banded three days ago. I am still having some pain but it's getting better day by day. The hardest part is getting in and out of the bed. Don't really have an appetite for anything so I've been eating ice chips and sipping on water and broth as best I can. Is what I'm experiencing normal?

Hi, I am new here. Just registered, and I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 14. I have been thinking about WLS for 20 years. I'm 53 and the past 3-4 years have been bad for me in terms of getting around. The deciding factor for me happened this summer when I went to my nephews wedding. I live in Michigan and the wedding was in South Carolina. Although I was there I really felt like I was unable to participate. I didn't go to the beach with the others, didn't go on the tour of the area, didn't go shopping, etc.... Just kinda stayed in the house the whole week while everyone else had fun doing things. When I got home I decided this is it. and started by attending…

  13. Let me explain. The doc's office called with my dates. I've finished the pre op testing so I was ready for a Christmas present of a lap band. She proceeded to tell me my endoscopy is Jan 5th, pre surgery appointment Jan 21st, and surgery feb 7th. I know I should be happy that I have a date, but I can't stop feeling upset that it's 2 months away.... Need a little encouragement people!!

First post new to board. Just had surgery on Monday the 29th. I came home Tuesday and plan on going back to teach Monday. I feel great. I have no hunger, I have not thrown up and I am learning how to sip. The loss of hunger has been the greatest thing. I have not bitten into anything since Sunday afternoon. I really can see how this thing could work. The hardest thing was going a day and half without liquids, waiting on my "leak" test.

I'mso sick of this crap with BlueCross Blue shield. When I first went in to my surgeon the receptionist, and the doctor were both like, "Wow you have great Insurance, approval will be easy, they approve everyone". Three denial letters latter here I sit. BlueCross has these Medical Directors that make all the decisions regarding surgery, but the medical directors will not speak to policy holders. How can a person make life altering decisions on my behalf without even speaking to me??!!! After the second denial I had a sudden loss of vision, my BP went up to 190 over 110, and sugar number were through the roof, and I had four more meds added to my daily pile of pills. I go…

I attended my first informational seminar with Dr Cirangle, and for the first time I heard about the VSG. After my initial consult, I had to go thru the insurance and do the Psych eval, and diet and nutritional eval. I had my lap band surgery on Nov. 4th. and I'm not scheduled for my first fill until Dec. 22nd. Like someone else posted here, I'm terrified because with the holidays there is so much food around, and I still want to eat! I'm afraid I started eating solid foods too early ... after the first week and a half, I started eating soft noodles and other soft, mushy foods. By Thanksgiving, I was pretty much eating everything (in small quantities). I experienced a couple of scary incidents in which food didn't want to go down, and I regurgitated after one meal. Since then, however, I have not experienced this, and I'm afraid I may have caused the band to slip or something. A…

I have just had my sixth fill and have not yet found the "sweet spot", but I am just over 40 lbs. down on a 146 lb. journey, so I am happy and will be patient - slow and steady! I have, like many of you, fluctuated up and down for years and most recently lost 92 lbs. on Jenny Craig - it worked! And then I went off the program. Sound familiar? So, I gained back the 92 plus and additional 35... and my physician recommended Lap-Band to me back in February. I started to look into it and found that my company has a gastric exclusion to their insurance policy... but after working with True Results in Dallas I…

My primary doctor made me go through the dietician meeting, the psychological exam, and attempted weight loss attempts before he would submit the paperwork for just the referral to the lap band doctor. I had my sleeve done on October 15, 2010. I feel happy because I've lost 50 lbs so far (6 weeks after surgery). But at the same time, I feel frustrated. I cannot eat. I just, more or less, tolerate eggs and fish. My doctor keeps telling me it's normal. I feel weak. I miss eating. Since yesterday, I started feeling depressed and with anxiety. I get desesperate because I just want to be able to eat. I am not talking about big meals or anything like that, just being able to tolerate food. It's really hard. Did anyone went thru all this? Your support is really appreciate it.

I've been told by my co-ordinator that my first fill won't be till after Xmas. By then I'll be able to chow done oodles of food and that terrifies me. They claim they tend not to fill before Xmas to allow for possible Xmas related indulgences. Is or has anyone else experienced this? I'm considering requesting one seeing as I've paid for fills? I hit 200 lbs the first time when I was pregnant with my 1st child at age 22. Typical story: diet, lose a bit, gain back a lot, over and over. I had finally decided a few years ago that it was probably heathier for me to just stop trying and I have been able to maintain a steady weight (although admittedly, a very high weight) and stopped yo-yoing. I am deathly afraid to diet and fail, because I know I'll end up even bigger. This is why I feel this proceed is right for me. I am in a better place mentall…
