So I was going back and forth with Aetna (well my surgeon’s office was) and finally got approved and my surgeons office gave me the date I wanted (December 20th)…HOORAY!! NOT so fast…Due to some family health issues and me having to be out of state to support my family, I had to ask for them to postpone my surgery…. L But it gets worse!! The earliest date they could give me was February 16th!! I first met with my surgeon on Feb 23rd so this would be almost a year from the time I originally started my process. Now for those who have read some of my posts you’ll know that I have been doing pretty good on my self-imposed pre-op diet and I’ve lost about 48lbs (I’ve bee…

Hi All, I haven't been here in a bit...I was just banded and am two weeks in. I have lost a total of 14 lbs since starting my journey and10 lbs since being banded. I am very excited and go back to work on Monday and am a bit nervous. I am also nervous about doing the food shopping and being careful not to lift heavy things...not something I am used to thinking about. I am also a bit nervous about beginning mushy food on Monday. Just wanted to jump on and say hi and give a backround a bit. Oh I started at 258 lbs and am down to 244 WOO HOO

Good Afternoon: I'm new to this group and looking forward to receiving support from those who have BTDT. I am doing my pre-op appts. at the moment and hoping to have the surgery sometime in January or early February the latest. I'm nervous and scared and every other emotion in between. I know this surgery is a tool for weight loss and the rest is up to me. I'm scared of failing and not achieving the goals that I have in mind. I felt so ready to do this until I started reading the negatives. I know there will always be a negative side to everything, but of course, I only want to hear the positives at this point. I am excited to learn that a fellow christian frie…

Had my sleeve done October 27th and for the past two weeks I have been stuck - even gained a few pounds back. I am feeling so frustrated! I had lost 41 lbs... I know some of it is being back to work, my cycle being off, and starting to reintroduce foods. Feel like I should go back to the liquid diet just to gain some control again. Just need to vent.

Hello... I'm new to this website. : ) I was looking for forums that would tell me if anyone out there has the same problems I do with my Lap-Band. Seems like there are several out there who have gone through what I'm going through or have GREAT advice! My topic title pretty much explains it all... After being completely and utterly embarrassed to call my surgeon or the after-care center I finally did so today. I'm scheduled for X-Rays and most likely will have the Fluid taken out of my band. Then on 12/20 I'm going to have the EGD (Esophago Gastro Duodenoscopy) procedure. I am hoping to be able to get back on the program of losing weight and eating healthy (n…

Greetings! I was banded on 12/2/2010. I am so glad I found this forum! I am looking forward to meeting many new, supportive friends. Right now I am nervous, scared, and anxious. I am so excited to begin this next chapter of my life! My surgeon was Dr. Burry and he was incredible. I have my first fill appointment scheduled for 1/6/2011. My weight before surgery was 284 and I am now down to 272! I decided to have the lap-band to of course lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. I also did this because I have a 3 yr. old daughter and want to be active with her. I look forward to meeting you all and sharing this journey together!

Hey there, I am so relieved to have found this site.... to be able to chat with other Banders I think will help my mental state during this process so much. I am currently scheduled for surgery Jan. 28th.... wanted to be completely done with the holidays before I had to start the liquid diet. Have some of the same concerns others on here have about possible failure but after reading some forums I feel a lot better.... I know I can do this and if I think negatively I am only going to sabotage myself. I am looking forward to making friends on here and being able to support others as well as myself.....Blair

Hi Everybody, It's official-I'm getting sleeved Dec. 20th. Earlier I posted about being stuck between band and sleeve, and thanks to your feedback I've decided to get sleeved. My diabetes is a bit out of control levels over 300. I'm on day 3 of the pre-op liquid diet and have been able to get it down to 150. Insulin shots tonight for the first time ever to make sure I'm good to go for surgery. I feel confident that i will resolve that issue as soon as I get sleeved-thanks for everything you all shared on that topic. Looks like I have gall stones and that's coming out too-2 birds with one stone-Wouldn't have been able to do that with the band After some serious t…

Hi all, My name is Jill and I was banded on November 24th by Dr. Harris Dabideen in Flint, Michigan. I was lucky because insurance approval process was not difficult at all. I was seen by the doctor on September 23 and was scheduled for surgery on 11/24. I was very nervous before the surgery and the 10 day pre op diet was difficult, but I made it through. Surgery went very well and I was lucky to have no nausea at all. Weight before pre-op diet was 238, day of surgery 226 and at my 2 week check up today I was 216. Total of 22!!! I feel really great about my progress. Just found out today after talking with the doctor what type of band that was used and it w…

Well, here I am......making the leap to healthiness. I upgraded my insurance to United PPO plan that covers lap band however I am unsure of the exact specifics of coverage since the plan is not yet effective. I sit here and read the posts of people having difficulty getting approved with United heathcare even though they are meeting the criteria. I feel I meet their criteria.....BMI 41.8 with family hx of diabetes, Hypertension and cardiac issues with current borderline risk factors. I have been overweight most of my life not terribly but always curvy. However in the last 7 years I have been right around 38-39 BMI with drops only lasting short times with the failed diets…

Hi! I'm Lyndsay and I was banded on November 19th. I'm in the Austin, TX area and my surgeon was Dr. Ganta. Surgery went well, though I was only supposed to have one belly button incision and woke up with 3 Apparently there was some bleeding to stop and it was an emergency. I'm a little sad because I had hoped to hide my scars and now that won't be possible. I started my year long insurance approval process at 5'3" and 235 pounds. If I had lost any, insurance likely would not have approved me. Once I got my approval I started my preop diet and exercise and lost 16 pounds. The day of surgery I weighed 219. The morning after at home I kind of wondered wth I ha…

Hello all, I just joined this online forum today because I've been having a bit of a problem with my band and was wondering if others out there were experiencing the same thing... I was banded about 4 years ago in June of 2006. At first everything was easy, eat until your full and still some how loose a bunch of weight. I found a good fill spot that allowed me to restrict my food intake but was still able to eat without having anything get stuck. I hadn't had any need to go into my LB doctor for well over a year when all the sudden my band tighten up on its own, so much so I couldn't drink Water even. Needless to say I went into the doctor and he took pretty much…

I am eating less right after fills and then as time goes on seem to be able to eat more. So any one out there seem to have the same response? All in all I am very happy i have had it done.

Hi all! I am new to this so here's some background... I have struggled with my weight all my life...I am an emotional eater and just LOVE food! I made the decisionto have gastric banding 2 years ago and finally had it done 25 November 2010 by Dr Ryan in Sydney at the Campbelltown Private Hospital...my lovely husband paid for it all! It was difficult not to eat the first few days but then I kind of got used to it...I had pain for couple of days but after that it was very manageable... I am now in the pureed/mashed food stage and I am starting to enjoy eating... The only problems I have are that I have some strange pains once in a while in the area of my left shoulder …

So I have the date for my surgery!! I have to do the liquid diet first for two weeks, which starts on the ninth of this month! Surgery is scheduled for the 27th at 11:30. I am so so excited, but also very nervous! I've waited for more than 6 months for this to happen! (I had to do a 6 month supervised diet for the insurance company, it was a pain, but they are paining for 80% of it, and that's a pretty good chunk) Well I hope to talk to some of you soon, I'm new to this site, so if anyone wants to talk or whatever, I'm here! -Kelsey

I had my surgery in June of 2009. I have only lost 55 lbs and I am very depressed behind it so I began eating whatever. Within this timeframe I was not able to get a fill for 5 months due to uncontrollable blood pressure, and this has me wanting to give up. I look at others who have had the surgery after me but have lost more weight and this makes me very upset. I guess I need to go back to the basic and see what happens. I use to be so motivated, now I don't exercise or anything. I also can't seem to keep my hair. Can anyone help me?

Hi everyone, My name is Denise I am 55 and I received my band last Thursday, December 2nd. I have been working towards this since June and was able to get all the requirements done quickly. I had my surgery thru the Obesity Treatment Center at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH. I have the greatest surgeon, Robert Catania MD and wonderful support thru the OTC. I've had a few questions and they have all been quickly answered. Today is day 6 and today is the first time I actually do feel hungry. I hope to learn alot from all of you. Thank you for being here.

I am in the process of going through all of the testing and deciding about the surgery. I have so much weight to lose, I feel as if I am at the bottom of a giant mountain that I have to climb. I thought this was the right move for me but after the nutrician meeting I attended and reading some of these forums I am nervous. Do we really have to give up absolutely everything we enjoy? Is there really so many things that get stuck and do you really get sick so much? Then someone said they put weight on, how could that be when you eat as much as a shot glass. I am really worried about this surgery. Can anybody shed some positive light on this?

I have been wondering for awhile if my marriage would last thru everything. At first my hubby was on board, then off, then on... 2 days before surgery he tells me that he didn't know if he was going to be able to take me to the hospital the day of my surgery. I said that I would take myself. He figured things out and decided to drive me. I spent the next 2 days in the hospital by myself (except for friends) which I was fine with. I did what I needed to do that way( sleep, drink whatever) He picked me up the yesterday. It took a while to process my discharge. He spent the entire time texting someone or talking on his phone. When his family called he put on the darling hu…

I just followed up with my doctor for my one week followup and to remove my staples. During surgery they did a hiatal hernia repair and a liver biospy as he did not like how the liver look. Now I already knew that I had fatty liver disease so that was not a suprise for him to due. But today he told me that he always looks inside the stomach that he removes and he found multiple polyps. He did have a biospy done and they were all benigned. Has any one else found out that they had stomach polyps after the surgery? I did just a little research after coming home and polyps are common but some lead to gastric cancer which is hard to detect as it most people think it is ju…

Hi Everyone, I'm brand new to this site and brand new to the idea of getting banded. I'm pretty sure this is what I need to do as I need to lose about 100 pounds and nothing else has worked. I'm starting to get some serious health issues - I have pretty bad arthritis (everywhere) and my diabetes is starting to get out of control even after my Dr. has upped my meds. I don't want to go on insulin, so I need to lose weight! So what I want to ask you all is how to go about finding and deciding on a surgeon? A Dr. Brad Watkins from West Chester, OH was recommeded to me, but I think it would make more sense to use someone closer to my Pickerington, OH home. Or does that…

Howdy all! I was banded 3/08, so this March will be 3 years. I have lost a total of 50 lbs and kept off 35 of that - the gain had more to do with having to stop running - completely unrelated. I have an ultra sensitive band. In 3 years, I have never had more than 2cc in my band. And there has been drama finding that out. No hospitalizations, but one trip to the ER because what was we thought I had some sort of stomach flu and dehydrated, not realizing until I was pumped full of anti-nausea drugs that it was a band problem. Yesterday (after no fills for almost a year now), I went to see my surgeon because I had to have some taken out after two weeks of only bein…

GRRRR!!!!! Here I am, all ready to go to the hospital for my op tomorrow when I get a call to say it has been cancelled !!!!!!!!!! I’m having the op on the NHS here in the UK. There is a shortage of beds and my surgeon’s list has been cancelled for tomorrow as the op is non urgent. All I can do now is wait to get another appointment, not sure how long that will be. The hospital are saying a couple of weeks, the appointments centre say it could be the New Year. Hopefully I’ll still become a December sleeve sister to you all. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Best wishes A very fed up Angela ( UK member ) xx

Hi! I was banded just over a month ago. I lost around 6 pounds the first week, but only 2 since then. My surgeon has a new doctor in his practice so I haven't seen my surgeon since my actual surgery. I really do not like this new Dr. He made me feel horrible about not losing more weight. I have been doing what I am supposed to but my losing really slow. He just made me feel like he didn't believe me and I was completely honest with him. Anyways, guess I am stuck with the practice for now but wish I had made another choice. I am really curious to know what guidelines other people's doctors have them following. For example, my doctor has me on Low Carb...only 30 carbs a …

My banding date is 10th Febuary, excited , but also nerveous, my main problem was how am I going to handle this mentally.......what does anybody do when you get sugar cravings? and does this go away at all OR ever. My second question is ; has anybody ever heard of total restriction on banding? Any way g…
