  1. So... I have been on this journey to get approved for Lap-Band Surgery since June of this year. I was scheduled for my OFFICIAL surgery date in MAY of 2011. I know it's quite a ways from now, but hey, at least it's all done! I guess the insurance I have (Cal-Optima) has a wait list because they have covered so many people already. But it's okay. At first I was disappointed that I wasn't going to be able to get it this year, but when I think about it.... I made it. The journey of my new life will begin in MAY and I have no complaints. I'm really looking forward to it and I wish everyone a smooth journey on getting your dates set too. :frown: Happy Holidays! It is poss…

Hello, I was banded one week ago today. It has been a difficult recovery. Major discomfort, nausea and many tears...but I am looking forward to brighter days. 6 lbs lost...that is something to smile about...a lb a day so far. Can someone help me with the emotional stuff? I did not think I would be so emotional after surgery.

I am about to schedule my consult with Dr. Webber at Great Lakes Weight Loss in Detroit for lap band surgery. I would like to get some info from other people about their experience. Especially if they had any complications after surgery. This is a very big concern for me as I am a self pay. I do have health insurance but it does not cover any type of weightloss surgery.

Hello, I've been lurking around the boards for a little while and now that I've got my surgery scheduled I thought I would finally make a post. My husband and I are Americans living in Daegu, South Korea (about 4 hours south of Seoul). I decided to have lap-band® surgery here because it's only about $6000 to get it here, and you don't have to jump through nearly as many hoops to get it. I had my first consultation on October 23rd, and my surgery is scheduled for October 30th! My doctor only requires full liquids for 2 days post-op, then mushies for 5 days, and my first fill can be a week after surgery. He also does unlimited band adjustments free for the first 3 m…

Where do I start? I am 31 years old, married and have a 7 year old son. Well, all my life I have struggled with my weight. I always stayed about 30 to 40 lbs over my ideal weight. I started diet programs when I was 17. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Mulitple Sclerosis. Everything seemed fine until 2008. I was taken to the ER with pain in my upper left abdomen and stomach severely swollen. After numerous doctor appointments and tests the only thing they could determine was that I have an allergy to something I eat which causes my intestines to swell and my stomach to distend. I had an allergy test ruling out over 200 items but preservatives couldn't be t…

Hi all, I hade my surgery at 10 am on Monday and I just got back home from the clinic. Monday is a daze, pain and sickness which was both quickly medicated against. Had trouble finding a comfortable position in the bed, but dozed off everynow and then anyway. Tuesday morning we where moved into our private rooms with extremely comfortable massage-beds and tv - felt like heaven. Tuesday was also a day focused on sipping; Water, juice and drink yoghurts, sip, sip, sip...I had a lot of heartburn and acid reflux, but got both tablets and fluids for that. Had a good nights sleep last night and after a shower this morning, I felt like a whole new person! Apart from acic reflux…

Well I did it....after over 3 years of considering, researching, and debating whether or not to have WLS, I finally decided to have VSG and my surgery was on Tuesday, October 26th! I walked into the hospital Tuesday morning hopeful and a little anxious, but I was ready. Was wheeled into the OR at 11:50 and next thing I knew, it was around 4pm. I was in a good deal of pain after the surgery and when my surgeon came in to visit me post surgery, I told him that I thought he was just going to remove a part of my stomach, not break all of my ribs along with it! Of course it was a joke, but man, that's exactly what it felt like! They originally started w/ Dilaudid in my …

A couple of days ago I posted how scared I was/am to have this surgery. I had a couple of replies that I should do this for myself. I really wasn't clear on my fear and yes I am doing this for myself as I want to be healthy for the remainder of my life. Hasn't anyone else had a fear this was the right thing to do. In addition, I have had 6 major surgeries so that alone has given me some fear. My fear is due to previous hiatal hernia surgery (30+ yearas ago) which increases my risks for leakage and a prior blood clot in my leg which also places me at a higher risk for another one. I saw the vascular surgeon today and was cleared by him for the surgery. Now tomo…

I was banded on 11/1/10 and before that I followed all the posts about how frustrated many people get at having to wait until they get enough fills so that the band can really start to do its work. Well, here I am one day out and I can barely swallow my own spit. Every tiny sip, even of just water, really hurts. My doctor said anatomically I have a large stomach and this makes the band tighter than usual. Hey, maybe I wasn't fat after all--I just had a big stomach. I'm told I have to be patient and that it would gradually loosen after the surgical swelling decreases. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and hopefully after I can keep some food down and the pain goes away I won't…

At the time there were no instructions, what to expect, etc. I tried to eat beef, broccoli and my favorite veggie Brussel Sprouts. I didn't know they were off limits and neither did my Dr. I was filled and unfilled so many times I can't count. I would vomit in my sleep and the heartburn was unbearable. Finally when I couldn't take it any more I had them remove all but less than 1cc. I had very little restriction. Lost 60lbs during the ups/downs when I couldn't even swallow. I am going in for surgery tomorrow. They are only making one inciscion in my belly button. I am more nervous about the excess skin then the surgery. Though I hate the idea of going under anesthesia. If there was a way they could do the surgery awake, I might have considered it. LOL Look forward to making new friends.
