Why is my band so picky? Some days I can eat, some days I can't eat. I don't think I'm eating things that irritate the band. I have had 3 fills and have successfully lost 30 lbs post op sice my surgery, December 3rd. I have 5.8 cc's filled in my band. I was a little tight after fill number 2, but it loosened up after 2 weeks and was really tight immediately after fill #3 which was two weeks ago. My problem is that my band has been real picky. I was so hungry last Friday, but I couldn't tolerate any solid food - not even mushies that day, until evening. I ended up eating 3 cups of Soup, had a milk shake (I hardly ever have those) and a few bites of mud pie. It…

They really must work out eight hours a day (at least). To lose ten pounds, you have to burn an extra 35,000 calories in one week. I get that it is easy to get off ten when you start but one guy lost 100 pounds in eight weeks. If only I could sleep while riding my exercise bike.

  8. I need to hear encouraging stories about how even though you started out w/no restriction, after a fill everything was rosy. i was banded on 2/16. i had no hunger and restriction for a week after surgery and the BOOM. major hunger. my stomach growls so loud u can hear it across the room. i can eat anything but bread. my meals are about 60% the size before banding. i have not had junk food in a month so i am being vigilant about dieting, but i'm starting to wonder if maybe i did make a mistake having this surgery.

Hi all, Still working things out so thanks in advance for your input. Feeling less pain (banded on 2/24) which makes this journey and learning stage much more tolerable. I take Wellbutrin XL 150 which I was told I couldn't take (even crushed) due to the extended-relief nature of the XLs-types of medication. So I switched to regular Wellbutrin 75 which I'm supposed to crush twice a day to get the same dose. The only thing is: how do you all get those crushed pills down? Taking them is so awful I shudder even typing this . So far, I've tried putting the crushed pills in gatorade (yuck), strawberry syrup which is OK but still insanely bitter even with th…

I found out yesterday from the surgeons office that I may have to have a "filter" inserted the day before I have lapband surgery due to having had blood clots in my legs when I was in my early 20's. I explained to them that I've had 3 surgeries since I had the clots and have never had any problems..... and I even had a clot test done (lab) per their requirement and it came back within normal range. Has anyone out there heard of this or had this done? I just don't know what to expect if I have to have it done. Thanks!

Has anyone had a surgery after having their lap band put in? I am facing shoulder surgery April 1st and I remember reading somewhere that if you were to have surgery you needed to drain the band. I just reached the sweet spot at 7 months post op and I am not going to drain my band. Has anyone had to do this and if so what happens afterwards? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I haven't had a fill because nobody in NM could do it, and I could not afford to go back to TX to have it done. I get my first fill on 2/28! I just want to wish everyone here the BEST of luck! This was the best thing I have ever done for myself (even with the complications during my surgery) I wouldn't take it back for a million bucks!

I am supposed to drink an 8 oz glass every 15 minutes until the gallon is gone. Thoughts? :tongue_smilie: Hammer

I have issues with the smell and taste of the Protein supplements I have no and I was looking for something that I can put in Soups (I'm still on liquids) and get some extra protein from. I just wanted to share with everyone the best protein supplement. It is from a website called egg whites international. I swear it is totally tasteless and way low in carbs and calories. (2g carbs 120 cal 30g protein) You can mix it with salad dressings, sugar free chocolate syrup, any juice, coffee (as long as it's cold) anything. You can mix it with sugar free jello. It is awesome! I know that sometimes it is hard to get in all 60g of protein a day and that those shakes taste gross and get old after a while and this stuff is really great. That's all!!

Has anyone else decided on the Realize Band over the LapBand? I asked for the Realize because the port is flatter and is suppose to be less noticeable. I also loved their online support system. Other than the port and some shape differences, they're pretty much the same and have the same success rates. I was just wondering if anyone felt strongly about it.

Hi All! My surgery is scheduled for March 12th and I just want to make sure I have everything ready! I will be on a clear liquid diet the first two days and then a liquids diet (anything that can fit thru a straw) for a week. The next couple of weeks then begin with mushy foods... I have read that some have blended things like veggie Soup during the liquids portion... Do you have any other suggestions of things that helped you through those times? Thanks!!

A pilates instructor came to one of our support group meetings. She talked about, and I'm not sure I'm saying this right, the changes that would take place with regard to the way we walk. I think it had to do with the way it (weight) was distributed, and how that changes as we lose. I've been feeling slightly off balance, I don't know how else to describe it, and was wondering if anyone else experienced anything similar. Debbie

I am getting a fill that should have taken place months ago this Monday. I am quickly finding myself getting back into old habits. I don't exercise outside of the 1 night a week I play tennis. I am running through more and more drive-thrus. The one thing I am really worried about is I still have restriction. I will eat 3 to 4 bites of something and start salivating like crazy. Hi, this is my first time on this site. I hope these forums will help me through my new journey but until I can get a feel for the different topics I do have one question. I was banded on January 30, 2009 so 4 weeks tomorrow. I lost, starting from the first day of my 5-day liquid pre-op diet, until last week a total of 15 lbs. However this week I haven't lost anything and have been hovering around the same 2 lbs but still haven't lost any more weight since last week. Can this be typical for the first few weeks post-op? I have my next appt. with my surgeon on 3/12 and I assume I might get my first fill then. I just don't want to get discouraged.

  40. I have just started the mushy faze today. 1/4 cup of protein 3 times a day plus two snacks i can have i.e fruit veggies pureed and so on. My question well the first one is that I get a lot of dizzy spells at least twice a day along with a headache. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced that? I wont have my first fill until april 1 and i can't wait cause the food is not filling me but i will not cheat i refuse. The second question I have is that I have been getting a lot of muscle cramps i.e my leg or arm falling asleep. Has anyone experienced that before?

  41. I went to the doc today for this crazy cold that has gone into my ears. He knew about the surgery so gave me the liquid c-pack. This one doesn't taste so bad. Just thought I'd remind you guys that most pharmacies have free flavorings they add to kids liquid medicines. If you ask, they will put it in yours. Believe me, some of them taste so bad that they can make you sick on the spot. Maybe everyone else knows about this but just in case it helps somebody, I thought I'd post it.

female problems after surgery? Specifically, how many of you got a terrible period especially those of you who were done with that. I have taken the depo-provera shot for at least 15 years because of heavy bleeding problems combined with a bleeding ulcer (that equals anemia). I never get breakthrough bleeding except during EXTREME stress like a death or Mom being very ill. Guess what - I've had one for one month straight now and I don't mean just spotting. Insurance won't pay to get my next shot early so I have to wait this out. I've talked to other people who have had weight loss surgery and found out this was common but that's a small sampling. So, the pain I've been having, I'm assuming it's normal, but wanted to know what others thought. The back pain, incisions sites, etc. But I'm really sore under my breasts. Like, extremely. My mom thinks they were probably clamped back during surgery (I'm a F cup) and there is slight bruising underneath of them. I've also been having pain where the band is located. I'm assuming that this normal (the doctor knows about it) and that's it's just swollen. Any advice to help any of the pain? I've been taking liquid tylenol with codeine but I'm pretty sure that's the reason I almost passed out after showering last night. (Oh the drama.) Thanks!
