Ok so I have not told my mother.. She loves to gossip about people's weight.

When I was Pre-op and had already lost 27 pounds. She was telling me about everyone that had gained weight..... I said its not nice to talk about people... Especially to tell them to their face they have gained.

She insisted it was OK if it was the truth.

Then she told me I had gained.

I shot back at her ... bTW I am DOWN 27 pounds.

She had to admit it.

I am now 6 weeks post op and down 60 pounds.

I told her I have a thyroid condition that causes me to lose weight.

<wink>

My sis in law who had the surgery a year PLUS before me. Now keeps making such a point that I need to stop losing weight, and I have not lost any more in more for several months. YEAH cause your starting to gain yours back from all the drinking that you are doing! SLAP in FACE~~~~ ( No I did not tell her that, but it is the truth)

Went to visit my sister last week - her MiL said to me "you look good, you've lost some weight?"

My sister said "she's lost a truckload, she only has half a truck to go"

B*tch.

The nicest complement was from a mom that goes to my sons school, she basically said that she never comments on people's weight but noticed how much I lost, and continued to say how gorgeous i looked! The nicest part was when she said she had always thought I was gorgeous but I was a different slimmer kinda beautiful now! The whole approach and the sincerity was so nice!

I really believe that fat-shaming is kind of the last frontier of things we're allowed to make fun of in public with little impunity.

I have really appreciated this thread, probably more than any other. THIS is the stuff that I worry about. Not drinking liquids for weeks or extra skin but how to navigate through the negative people out there. I work in a hospital. I'm a manager. I probably have a decent to good relationship with the majority but as a boss, I'm a natural target. And nurses LOVE to judge and comment. I've told only 3 people outside of my family that I'm doing this (I'm pre-sleeve) but I'm not naive that some will figure it out. When I've lost weight before, I felt sabotaged by others comments, the good and the bad. I'm not a shallow person and I just can't wrap my head around people who only see peoples physical features. I told my doc and np that I was worried about how to respond. They suggested having come backs planned. I appreciate all the clever ideas here. The good thing (one of the many) is that this time I'm doing it for good, and old enough to not care what people say (at least not like I did at 25). I tell people being in your 40's is liberating. I need no ones approval. It feels good when you share in my success but unsolicited comments won't be received well.

Best compliment when telling my close friend I was gonna do it: "I'm so happy for you, you're so bubbly and full of life but you will be even more so and feel so much better". She's a keeper!

Thank you for this great thread. I have laughed, cried, and cringed in horror at peoples experiences.

Best Compliment - My 14 year old son told me he was proud of me.

Worst Compliment - My sister in law said I now look like I finally "go" with my husband. He is naturally thin.

The other thing is my mother in law is also Filipino and has absolutely not said one word to me about my weight loss (she doesn't know about my surgery). NOT 1 WORD... But I guess I can't complain since she never said anything about all the weight I gained either.

My favorite so far... "Well, I can't see a difference, I think you're gonna have to lose about 100lbs before it's really noticeable". Well thanks! Especially considering that's all I have to lose and I'm sown from an 18/20 to a 16!

My 100 year old Grand Father was in the process of telling me how good I looked and then explained to me I would have already been married and had a kid or two if I had not gotten fat! Wow he failed to noticed I raised my ex girlfriends daughter and now I am raising her son also. ???? but life is good and I am 80 pounds lighter to enjoy my Grand Son!

Tomorrow will be 4 weeks postsurgery and I work from home so I haven't seen many people so far.

One of my favorite compliments came from my thin, beautiful sister before I had surgery. She said, "You are already beautiful. People tell me all the time your sister is so beautiful. Now you're going to get your confidence back that you lost somewhere along the way, and when you do, look out world!" I will never forget how that made me feel. :)

My absolute favorite, though, came from my 5-year-old granddaughter who said to me last week on Face Time, "Nana! Why does your neck look so long?" I think she is noticing my weight loss. :)

The hubby and I have some really good friends - another couple. The guy of said couple is a total prankster/jokster/KID (in his 30's)...ANYWAY...the other day we were together and he asked me how much weight I've lost, I told him, his reply

"Well, I swear you've lost 12 lbs in your HEAD!!"

His poor wife, I thought she was gonna die from embarrassment!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
