Congrats to all of you who are noticing a difference in your clothes. I am noticing decent weight loss on the scales, but not in my clothes. I'm wearing the same jeans that I was before surgery!! Same bras, etc. I am very disappointed that I'm not having to buy anything yet. Not that I want to spend the money on interim results, but I would have thought that 27 lbs. would show more!!! Wah.:cry

Well, I had my first fill today. I was so nervous! It was a 2 min procedure - didn't even put a gown on - just pulled up my shirt? Then, I waited for the eating instructions, but there were none. I had to drink a little Water before I left, but that was it. I don't dare eat anything too solid today, but all else seems fine.

Doc told me that because I had more fat around my stomach that I have the "large" band - and he put 2.25 ccs in! WOW - I was a little freaked out about that! I wonder if that's an issue for my heart health? My doctor isn't a big sharer of information.

In the two weeks that I was on solids, I went a little crazy - ate whatever I wanted. I don't own a scale, so I thought I would have gained for sure, but I lost one lb - yea.

I had my first fill yesterday with Dr. Curry in Cincinnati. I had myself all worked up that it was going to be horrible. It took 30 seconds max and no pain at all but he uses a topical anesthetic. I have done well staying off the scale throughout the week but had to jump on the scale today and there is another 3lb loss, woohoo!

wantlapband: You are kicking this weight thing in the butt! Any secrets you want to share??

I had my first fill and don't feel restricted hardly at all. I can eat just a little less than normal. I'm still trying to be a good girl though, but I wish I had as much restriction as I did right after surgery. :phanvan

HI BJean,

I have just been following the doctors orders as to what I eat. I haven't started working out yet because I still get pains. Lets see I don't eat, carbs like bread, Pasta, NO sweats at all, meat makes me sick. I have tried a few times but it wasn't worth me getting sick..I'm sure in time I will be eating it again. I mostly have my Protein drinks, carnation instant Breakfast sugar free with skim milk 4-5 x's a day. I eat unsweetned applesauce, strawberries, sugar free pudding, for my chocolate fix. I eat alot of the 99% fat free cream of broccoli, that fills me up. I like to eat it from other places, like Quiznos, subway has a really good one, and other places. I never like that kind of stuff but I wanted to lose weight so I changed my whole way of thinking to eat. I drink alot of Water all day long.

Thats about it.

I get my first fill next thursday.

I am pretty shocked myself for the weight coming off. I wasn't expecting it.

I feel good too, I'm not hungry.

Hi BJean again, You will notice it soon, that is where I have noticed it, in my clothes, I am wearing jeans that I haven't been able to wear in 4 years, I went down two sizes, no more plus sizes. I can actually button all of my little jean jackets that I saved. I'm not going to buy anything new though until I loose more, I'll just wear my comfortable matching active wear. My problem areas are the hips and the stomach.

Hang in there, you will soon!!!

wantlapband: It all sounds great. I think I may not be focusing enough on getting all the Water I need. I talked to a guy at a LB meeting the other night and he said that he didn't change pants sizes until he had lost 50 lbs! Gosh I hope it isn't that long for me.

I'm not exercising much either. I'm really trying, but I have bad knees and it sure limits me.

It's great that you're losing so well. I sure hope your first fill is as uneventful as mine was. The only thing that stung was the injection for numbing. It was short and sweet. They made me drink about 2 oz. of peach tea before I left. No problem.

Thanks for getting back to me. You're inspiring!

Great job everyone. I, on the other hand, have most likely gained back at least 1/2 of the weight I lost already. I am going for my first fill on Monday and am so afraid the nurse is going to say something snide or nasty and that the dr. is going to yell at me. I haven't been excercising at all, my fibromyalgia is acting up, I feel like I got hit by a truck and my period is now 2 days late which makes the aches worse (no I'm not pregnant), but I have had PMS and the wanting to eat for about 8 days now, I wish it would come already! I also decided to go off my 20mg. of Prozac this past week, so who knows how that is affecting me. Anyway, I have been avoiding the scale for about 2 weeks now and am terrified to get on it. I guess Monday is D-day for me. Hopefully, I'll get a pretty decent fill (I have the VG band that holds 10cc's+) and it will restrict how much I can eat. I think I will do liquids tomorrow and Sunday just so I don't feel so bad on Monday morning when I get there. Thanks for letting me vent!

ItsGottaGo: My heart goes out to you. But I'll tell you that I was really worried too that I had gained according to my doctor's scale. But when I went for my fill, I had lost 4 lbs. since the last time I was there. The nurse was surprised. She acted like she expected me to gain. So I don't know how you've been doing, but you might be surprised. I hope so. And I hope they treat you well. Good luck!

Thanks BJean, you're so sweet. Maybe I just feel like a cow because I'm all PMS and bloated, but I do know I have eaten things I shouldn't have and too much of it for the past week. At least I can start over again. Thanks for your support.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
