Got everyone so far.

I do think we all go through the same things at different times. The nervousness about surgery, the excitment about loosing. The relief that it finally came, the trouble trying to figure out what to eat or even if we can, and the hunger coming back and not to mention the rediness for a fill. I'm damn glad to know all of you, and it's comforting to know you are all there, just at that moment when I allow myself to believe I'm alone in this you all give me strength.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom, your eyes scanning my posts and your hearts, because I believe they are all connected.

Great things are in front of us, and I plan to find out what they are, with you.

MOM: Great post. We really appreciate you too! It must be nerve wracking keeping up with all these numbers.

Hope everyone has a successful week! A net loss of 67 lbs for last week is great!

Watch your carbs and drink your water! This is gonna work!:)

Hi September Bandsters,

Does anyone else feel exhausted? I was banded on 9/27 and was feeling great, did my half hour workout every morning last week, but this week I feel like I can't get out of bed and I have not had any energy for anything, never mind working out

Ok, all September Banders. Here's the question! I was banded on Sept 8th. My weight at surgery was 222, today I am 209. What the hell is wrong? I am doing EXACTLY what I am supposed to be doing. I am soooooo upset today. I had my first fill on Oct. 18th. Can any of you give me any insight? I need some support here!

When I ate less than 600 calories, it was very hard to lose. Once I increased my calorie intake to 950 - 1100 calories, I began to lose.

The first two weeks I had lost an easy 10 lbs. It then slowed up until I went to solids. I find I lose an average of 2 lbs a week since then.

I am lucky to keep down 800 - 1000 calories. My Protein Shakes are 190 each and I usually have 2. One in the morning and then one about 2:30pm. I usually don't eat lunch and at dinner very little (and I have been so hungry, I tend to eat to fast and something will get stuck and I end up pbing it up anyway). 1 to 2 glasses of wine about (200 calories) and not every night. so maybe I am not eating enough?

I've been reading the posts where several people are not losing the month or two after surgery, even some that have had fills. I too have not lost/gained in the past few weeks, but SOMETHING is happening. Before surgery, I was size 18 pants. One month ago I bought size 16 dress pants. The size 16 I can now slip on/off without undoing them. Sunday I went to Kohl's for a (yes) machine-washable suit, and I fit great into a size 14. I got home, and I was able to squeeeeeze into some of my size 12 pants as well. Soooooo.... we're not losing pounds, but how are the inches still dropping?

I go for my third fill Oct 31 -- yay. They kind of griped at me last time for not much weightloss, but at least this time I can tell them I have gone down a couple of dress sizes!

You need more solid food throughout the day. It looks like you don't eat anything to fill your pouch until dinner. That is why you are so hungry and end up eating too fast. My nutritionist requires 3 food meals / day and Protein Drinks are for between meal Snacks. You are drinking over half of your calories, which aren't doing much to keep you full.

Yes, I think you are right! I will start tomorrow with 3 small meals. Don't know for sure what that will be, but I will make the effort. shakes for Breakfast and lunch have just been easy.. I need to make more of "a meal" .... your right... I need to make more of an effort. I will do it.

Dovie,

thats right you are not getting enough solid food, and the wine has the calories we really don't want. I'm a wine drinker too, but have put it on the back burner for now. Your body thinks its starving and therefore holding on to all your fat. Start eating more and making sure you are getting enough Water (64 oz a day). I was told by my doc not to drink my Protein at all. Eat it!

At my surgery center we are told not to drink Protein Shakes at all. We are to be training ourselves to eat real food, just less of it.

Examples of a meal:

Breakfast: 1 medium boiled egg and a glass of milk

Lunch: a lean cuisine or a 3 oz can of tuna and a 1/2 cup of veggies

Dinner: 3 oz of chicken or fish and 1/2 cup of veggies (I love ground turkey and it goes down really easy)

Snacks: No sugar added fruit cup or a 100 calorie pack of something

I try and keep my Snacks at about 100 calories and my meals between 250-350 calories.

I hope this helps. :girl_hug:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
