I'm on my way to TJ Mexico by way of Houston to San Diego. If I wasn't nervous enough, my original 5 am flight was canceled due to inclement weather, now waiting to fly as stand by for a 9 am flight. Thank you Jehovah God for traveling grace! Good luck to all of my fellow surgical travelers.

I know it's nerves and everything will be fine I'm just starting to freak out a little! I'm also starting to have mini panic attacks about the foods I will miss lol This is silly and I'll get over it but I'm mourning my food addiction I guess lol I'm also starting to worry about gas pain after, hunger pains, and dehydration headaches!! I'm just in the worry stage I guess everything is starting to sink in!!!!!

I read about Doctor Lopez which is a 'BariatricPal Deal' surgeon here being shut down for illegally operating. Why has no one pointed this out? Would invite comments from his coordinators on here if possible. http://sipse.com/mexico/cofepris-clausura-diez-clinicas-de-cirugia-estetica-en-tijuana-146030.html

I had my surgery at Florence Hospital on May 13, 2015 with Dr. Zavalza and Dr. Luna. Let me start by saying, I could not be happier with the results. I was pain-free, had very little gas discomfort, no vomiting, and was up and moving pretty quickly; I was very fortunate as I handled the surgery very well or as Dr. Luna said, "I rocked it!" The staff at the hospital was top notch. Everyone was caring, compassionate, and very happy. I could not have asked for better people to be taking care of me. The hospital was dated, but very clean. The rooms are set up to accommodate family members (I have never observed this in a US hospital). I would describe Dr. Zavalza as an…

I have talked with several people over the years, getting feedback on all the surgeons in Tijuana. Most have really good reviews. Except one. Dr. Almanza. I was communicating with a man the other day who didn't really do any research on his surgeon, so he went with Dr. Almanza...big mistake. His story is so sad and that's why I am on here because he has no clue how to get on here and tell his story... But it's a legit story, you can even look him up on Facebook and ask him. His name is Steve Kaiser. Dr. Almanza made his stomach the size of a spring in a ball point pen. He has went through more surgeries to try and fix this, but his stomach keeps collapsing. He hasn't been…

Hey, I posted previously asking some questions about having a gastric sleeve in Mexico. I would really like to get the ball rolling and start talking to some doctors via Skype, preferably Dr. J. Lopez. If anyone has talked to him or had him as their surgeon can you please give me your personal experiences, likes and dislikes. Also how do I go about talking with him?? Thanks for your time!

Wow where do I start... I was sleeved on march 16th 2015. BariatricPal did it all from A to Z. Picking up, dropping off from the hospital, airports and the recovery house. You're never alone and you have someone taking care of you 24/7. Walking after your surgery is sooooo important. I have my own personal liaison, Juan! Juan takes you walking everywhere. All over the beautiful city site seeing!! Woohoo!!.. I absolutely loved that. We got to go to the beach and look at some of their amazing shops. I found Dr. Zavalza through BariatricsPal Deals. Dr. Z was extremely thorough. He Skyped with me several times to answer any questions or concerns and made my transition …

Hi, I have considered having a gastric sleeve multiple times and have recently decided to go forward with it. I do have insurance but I don't have time to wait to find out if I will even be approved for surgery and I would like to pay out of pocket, therefore I am looking to have the surgery in Tijuana, Mexico. However, I would need help with financing the surgery. I know there are a few options to do so but I am curious if there are options from the various Doctors who perform the surgery or if they are all through third parties such United Medical Credit and E-Financing Solution? If you use one of these two financial services does it cover medical only or does it cov…

A little about my experience with BP. Got in touch with David, he introduced me to the surgeons they work with, visited them and chose Dr. Lopez, I felt really comfortable with him, he explained everything so well, even did SKYPE with him before and after surgery, they scheduled my surgery for me, I only paid 3,899 dollars all inclusive.... transportation, surgery and medical fees, two days at the hospital, and an extra 2 days at the recovery house, my brother was with me all the time and they also took good really care of him, we had wifi, long distance calls, they are great people, my surgeon, nurses, coordinator.. everyone treated me like a queen, like one should …

Oh, my Gosh. I am freaking out a little. I've been out all weekend with my father and step-mother who were successfully sleeved here in the states but my insurance wouldn't approve the surgery for myself. I got home this weekend and I was talking with my mom about how much I want the surgery and how I just don't see anything but my weight. I'm 28 and have a good job but have a hard time saving for the surgery, she suggested that I apply for financing. I did it on a whim, I don't even have a surgery date set up but I just wanted to see what would happen. I got approved. I got a phone call and now I'm just excited, scared, ready to do this. I've been thinking about this …

This is a bit of an introduction since I have stopped lurking and officially got an account. I have been considering VSG for a little over a month and am set on it. I am a preschool teacher and am hoping to have the surgery this summer. I have Molina (medicaid) insurance and feel like it would be very hard to get it covered and just plain don't want to wait a whole year to have the surgery if I can even get covered. For this reason I am very seriously considering Mexico. I would need to get "financing" for the surgery. I am wondering about people's expriences with Mexico, loans, wait time, etc. Sorry for being so long winded and vague. Just looking for some anecdotal i…

Any free time that I have now is spent looking up info on surgeons, hospitals, prices, or posts written by patients. Last night I was up until 2am. When I finally went to sleep I dreamt that I was making an appointment for my surgery in Mexico over the phone... IN SPANISH. LOL!! Mind you I do not speak Spanish. I took it in high school. I can probably speak like a 1 year old in Spanish. Omg I woke up laughing at myself. I either need to just schedule an appointment or take a break from researching. I've been lurking for some time, this is my first post. Happy Hump Day!!

Hi there, I wanted to post a review of my experiences though I know a lot of you have been following me in some other posts I wanted a new topic so that others who are researching could easily find it. Here is my story. I left my house 5 am (Eastern time) on Thursday and after a very long day of travel and one delayed flight I made it to Star Medica around 2pm (4pm Eastern time) No trouble at all crossing the boarder, in fact we didn't even have to stop the van. Also, I had some worries (okay A LOT of worries) about Juarez but once there I actually felt silly! Everything appeared completely safe and I never gave it another thought. In fact had I not been scheduled …

May 12! I've been on this journey for so long that I can't believe it's almost here! I'm nervous and want to begin my pre-op diet immediately but I think I should have some "food funerals" first. I plan on going to my fave Chinese restaurant before starting the pre-op diet. Man, I can't wait for the brand new me! Wish me luck!

The place I plan on going through only has a 2 night stay and you head home on the 3rd afternoon. A flight from Houston to San Diego is about 3 hours both ways but the only flights that I can find have a one hour layover in Phoenix. One hour from San Diego to Phoenix and then the last two from Phoenix to Houston. I did a search and saw that people recommended moving your legs and feet, getting up to walk and buying compression socks. Does anyone else have any other tips? The thought of blood clots makes me extremely nervous and I haven't really seen many people talk about the flight back home. Edit: Also, did anyone let their flight know ahead of time that they were…

So today I start my pre-op diet. I'm so excited! I will be having protein shakes during the day and lettuce with some skinless grilled chicken in the evening. If I crave something sweet I will be having either sugar free jello of a suger-free popsicle. I can't believe 2 weeks from now I will be having my surgery! I've waiting for so very long to save up money for this and now it seems to be moving so very fast!

My flight leaves early tomorrow morning. My nerves are just now kicking in. I was never scared of dying during surgery before but now I'm getting paranoid and am writing lists of directions to friends and family just in case I don't make it. I know it's crazy, but still, I want to be prepared. I guess in a way a part of me is dying, the old me, the obese me. I still can't believe I've lost 22lbs on the pre-op diet. I technically have one more day to go and it wouldn't surprise me if I lost another pound by then. And I never slipped up and ate any sweets. I did slip up and have some steak, but that was during the phase where I could eat some lean meat and lettuce for dinne…

Okay, I was embarrassed to ask this question but I became so paranoid over it that I just have to know. How was the plane ride back from your surgery? Were you embarrassed by passing gas or did you have gas on the plane (gas from the surgery)? Did you have a bowel movement on the plane?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has had an experience with Dr. Kelly in Tiajuana. I live in san diego and going to a doctor in TJ would be so convenient but i am not sure if he is the best one. Has anyone heard of any good or bad reviews on him? Can anyone recommend anyone else in TJ, if not Dr. Kelly? Thank you for your help.
