Funny story!  I was sitting on the couch watching TV one night, as I often do (couch potato) and I news story came on about women who travel over seas for cosmetic procedures.  They were describing these gruesome hack jobs and I thought to myself, "Who in the world would do something so dumb like that? It's common sense not to go out of America to get something so serious done."  This prompted my curiosity.  I immediately went to the laptop and started to search for plastics over seas, mainly just to see how easy it was or what was so intriguing to all these different people choosing medical tourism.  Suddenly I'm having a hard time finding any negativity. I went from boob jobs to tummy tucks to RNY to VSG?  Huh?  What in the world is vsg?  I had never heard of such a thing!  Initially my reaction was probably something more in lines of, "What! People pay to get there stomachs cut out! OMG! If I would ever do WLS it would definitely be the lapband!"  This then set me on a journey to find real life people who have had experiences with getting lap bands done in Mexico.I just had to know for myself. Is medical tourism as treacherous as our nightly news makes it out to be or are we just hearing the worst of the worst and shining no light on all that is pure and bright? That search in turn lead me to find this online forum. After internet stalking the site and finally deciding to get signed up to begin interacting with people, about 3 months later my choice was made.  Vsg was for me and so is medical tourism.  Mexico hear I come! BUT WAIT!! I have 2 small boys at home! This is a life changing medical procedure! I can't just decide on a knee jerk reaction to go full speed ahead on something so life altering.  So I made my mind up.  I would research, research, and research some more. If the following summer (about 15 mths later)  this was something I still wanted to do and thought it was still a good idea then I would do. As of today I am 6 mths away from my surgery date, the moneys been saved, and the butchershop story the nightly news ran to scary americans away from having surgery outside the USA has completely changed my life. Lol, tho probably not in the way they had expected!
