On the wall in this room is a photo frame with pix from my parents' wedding back in 1953. Hung from the frame is a piece of ribbon with my mother's wedding band attached. (Although my parents' marriage wasn't successful, their wedding was on the lawn of the house where we now live, and this room has a lot of old photos like that.) My mother stopped wearing her ring when I was about 10 and that's when I first discovered it didn't fit. You can imagine the shame I felt, and since then her ring has always been some sort of talisman that I knew I could never wear. She used to keep it hidden because it was painful for both of us when I would play with it. Tonight the…

Hi everyone, It has been 2 1/2 years since my treatment for Cancer and am Grateful to the Lord everday that I am alive and Cancer Free. I had Lymphoma and was treated at Yale New Haven Cancer Center in CT. I'm so thankful that my Oncologist has given me the green light to have the lapband procedure. Has anyone here on the LBT board know of anyone who had cancer and then got the lapband. I did meet someone at a Seminar who had breast cancer and then got the lapband and she has been successful. I just read Corgi's posting on her cancer and now her lapbanding and I sat back after posting to her and I realized that we all have our own troubles from the past. Some worse then others but still to each individual the problems were not small. Cancer has effected each and every one of us at some time, depression has plagued almost all of us at one time or another. We see what Whippledaddy and his wife Patty are going thru. Others here too have major medical troubles. The loss of close family members, sons, daughters, moms and dads and siblings amoung others. Financial problems have fallen upon many people here some have worked thru them others are still struggl…

I have been having trouble lately with restraunts understanding my issues (which I have never had before). They say I should have a "card" and sometimes don't believe me!!! I'm still in the process of researching whether I want to/can/can afford to get banded and have a question. I am currently a major Diet Coke addict. Are sodas absolutely forbidden with the band? Does carbonation make you feel sick, even if it's just a few sips? Or do different people have different reactions?

  11. Started by DeLarla,

Yes, sometimes this board gets out-of-hand and ugly. We can't always be warm and fuzzy. The whole point of LBT is for "support." Support comes in many forms, and while the best form of support is probably one-on-one weekly sessions with a highly qualified professional therapist, most of us don't have the resources, time or the qualified shrink. In the past, I have seen therapists, who encourage vigilant, candid honesty. ALL of them keep boxes of Kleenex at hand because we often cry, sometimes hysterically. NOT ONE THERAPIST has ever told me to calm down, watch my mouth, mind Ps and Qs, or be nice. That's what therapy is for - it's a forum to "let it all out." I'v…

I stayed on the clear soups for the first four days but at only 9 calories per serving, I was worried I was going to pass out on day three, although I didn't feel 'hunger' in any recognisable sense. In fact since my surgery I have only felt a vague hunger once. I having been making soup which I pass through a very fine seive and them water down with clear broth so they are the consistency of hot chocolate. They could easily go through a straw. A cup or so fills me up. My problem is that when I feel full I feel guilt! This has been compounded by the fact that although I lost 11lbs in the first 6 days, I haven't dropped another ounce since. My husband had surgery on feb 23rd. i will be on march 14. I have a question. We have been told to keep his liquids to 4oz and hour. Are we supposed to stop for a certain amount of time before he gets more or can he start another hour as soon as the first hour is up? He seems to always be hungry. He started his creamy foods today but he is still wanting more after 4 ounces. Should we be more regular with his meals since they aren't solid yet?

  27. I have my band date set at March 7th. My Dr. decided to double check my thyroid since I had been off of medication for a few years due to some bad side effects due to the high dosage I was on earlier. So the TSH test came back a little high. Dr. said I need a letter of clearance from an endocrinologist or my PCP that treated me before. To me this surely signified a postponement of the surgery date. So today I contact my PCP and leave him my test results and his nurse said she will get back with me later after the PCP has time to look things over. So today at about 5:45 I get a call back from the nurse. She tells me the doctor is calling in a prescription for the thyroid m…

So it appears that Dr. Kwon's office is one of the "you must lose weight" before banding.....5% of your total body weight, so they know you are "committed". I'm not sure how I feel about this. I don't have great alternatives however, and I did like the people and the aftercare as they explained it. So now assuming I will continue in this path, I have to lose 13lbs before they will do the surgery. Great. Not that I can't do it, I"m an expert at losing - I"m also an expert at gaining, obviously. Thanks for all the positive vibes. I'm still thinking this is the right direction, I just need to get my brain around it more. Sharon

I started feeling normal about 1 1/2 weeks after my surgery, needless to say when my swelling went down and I dropped 10 pounds. Has anyone found this normal before the first fill. It seems I can eat one cup of most foods when I should be at half that. I wont mention the 8 piece chicken tenders I wolfed down two days ago. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem of not feeling full so early on. Need advice from you experienced ones.

I have been fighting to get out of the 180's for a few months. Something about the 170's sounds so much better. So technically I am at GOAL, although ideally I should weigh about 20 lbs less...... I had my first fill of 1.5cc 11 days ago. I felt good restriction for about 4-5days and now I can eat quite a bit of food without a full feeling or pb, or anything. I do have difficulty with meat unless it is moist but I hated meat prior to my band. I have gained about 2 lbs also. I work out on the treadmill 20-30 minutes per day and with weights 3 times per week for 30-40 minutes. I feel like I have lost some but the scales don't say so. Thoughts on this? Can you lose your restriction that fast or was it all just swelling to begin with?

Good morning, I am interested in having the lap band surgery. I've done the research, understand the cost and know that I would be eligible for the surgery but there is one thing holding me back. If I can't live the kind of lifestyle that this process requires before the surgery why would I be able to do it after the surgery? How do you do it? Is it just that you can no longer physically eat all the same types of food in the same quantities? Is there more to it? Your thoughts and advice would be helpful. Thank You, LynnAnn
