Your surgery is 3/23/05? Thats Wednesday! I saw on another post you were getting a little apprehensive. thought you could use a pep talk. You will be fine. Sounds like your DR knows what he is doing and alot of his pts have posted here on LBT with all good things. Its normal to be scared before hand, your taking a big step. A big step in the right direction that is. Relax and go with the flow right now. your exciting new life is right around the corner.

I don't know if this is the right place to post these questions, but here goes... I am having surgery on March 23, 2005. What can I expect in regards to recovery? Also, how do you modify the weight ticker? Can it be modified or do you have to redo it each time? Thanks, ecbailey

I got my wisdom teeth taken out on Monday. Today is Saturday. I have never been in so much pain in my life! I have all ready had 2 fills, for my dry socket, and been to the emergency once. I havn't been able to eat or anything! All the pain medicine was making me sick. Now, I am feeling a little better, as long as I take tons of pain pills. Dang, this sucks. This was 150 x worse than getting banded! I hope it starts going away. I am suppose to go back to work tomorrow, but I can't take ANY pain medicine at work. (I'm a train dispatcher) So, I don't know how thats going to work out. Any ideas anyone?

Hi all! I have a question. I received a list of foods and the progression from the doctor on Thursday but what wasn't mentioned was the calories that should be consumed daily while healing. I'm not excited by the liquid stage and or the next stage before mushies (like everyone else!) but I went to Sam's this weekend to see what I could find. I picked up several bottles of juice (apple and a passion/apple/strawberry), chicken broth, Jello, carnation Breakfast drinks, Protein Drinks, etc. How many calories a day should I be consuming? My dr. said to only consume 2 oz. at a time and sip as much Water as possible. Does this mean every couple hours 2 oz to get as many …

It's low cal/low fat and good Protein - Old El Paso makes a new tub of shredded chicken in taco sauce - I got it in the meat section of my grocery store. I mixed half a cup of this with half a cup of lowfat cottage cheese. It was good!

Hey everyone. I just got back from TJ and looks like i'm heading back in a couple of weeks to have my port moved over to my side. My port incision just isn't healing after almost 5 mo. Dr says i've lost a lot of fatty tissue and so the port is just rubbing against the incision wound not allowing it to heal. It leaks 24/7. He is going to move it over to my side because there is alot more fatty tissue there. I have to give myself injections 2 a day for 8 more days...YUCK! To try and dry this up before the surgery. I start it on Monday and I am NOT looking forward to it. On the good note, i just got my second fill and man it is a good one! So on that note, i finally broke th…

Im not afraid of not eating, Im not afraid of PBing, Im not afraid of pain, Im not afraid of gas..... I AM, afraid, of trading one addiction for another!!! Now my addiction is FOOD. And when I can't have that food I don't want to replace it. I never knew how much food REALLY affected until now. I knotice things more now then I did before I decided I was going to be banded. For example: Yesturday I had Ramon Noddles for lunch I was good not hungry but an hour later out of the blue i warmed up leftovers and ate that. WHAT! I wasnt even hungry! Anyway the addiction im scared of is Alcohol, it runs in my family... on both sides My mom and My dad. I wont list everyone in my fa…

Went to the meeting with DR wasco at the theyda clark medical center, on Tueday for three hours. there are many hoops that a person has to go through. such as seeing a Mental health provider. six mounths of recorded weight loss by you own Doctor or dietitian .proof of recorded weight loss failure. then come's fighting with your insurence company who hate there jobs, who are just there to get a pay check! You call your insurence with the proceddure code and they tell you that your Doctor office has to call but when you are starting this Quest to save your life you don't have a doctor yet! there should be more helpful, My insurence company pay's for every thing e…

I'm packing up some clothes this weekend. DeLarla's getting my 18/20 tall stuff (jeans, etc); Kyleigh's getting 18/20 summer stuff. I gave away most of my size 24s. But I still have a few size 22 things I'd be happy to send to a bandster. These are not gorgeous items, just basics, including a couple of pairs of shorts, although I may finally part with the slinky lycra-blend pants and tops that have seen me through the last 50 lbs., and somewhere in the basement I have a decent Elisabeth linen suit, size 22 I think, that never looked good on me at any size but was at an irresistible sale price. Please note that I am taller than the average bear, long-legged and pear-sha…

I can't believe it's here, OMG.... I'm not nervous at all, I just want this over with. Today I have to keep my food very light and then at 3:00pm I take phoso soda, I hate that stuff... I remember when I was researching this surgery about a year ago, went to the seminar in July and then decided let me try one more diet, weight watcher, well that was short lived. I decided in December I had enough, I needed help and went back to the surgeon and started the process. In January we started all the paperwork and every step of the way went smoothly. I believe when you have no stuggles during a process then it's meant to be. Well I will be on the other side over the weekend,…

Ok, I am officially starting to get nervous, and even scared. I only have 5 more days until I have Lapband surgery. I leave for Mexico in 4 days. I hope and pray that I am making the right choice!!! I have been absolutely starving!! I have been dieting very hard, and intense since March 1st to loose the required weight before surgery. I have lost 12 lbs, but I have been in pure misery. I am feeling better however. Two weeks ago my doctor descovered that my blood test reveiled that I have Hypothyroidism, and that was part of my problem with my weight. He started me on Synthroid (a thyroid hormone medication) and I am starting to feel better and have more energy.…

Hi everyone. This is a wierd question. I was banded on Feb 10th. I am still on some mushies, but I notice that right after I eat a meal I have gas...I never was a gasy person before the surgery. Has anyone else experienced this, or could there be something wrong?

I had a fill yesterday, and I am NOT able to gulp water, but to sip very slowly. Any one else? I am sipping now and feel a little like it may come up. Do you think that could be from swelling? He said liquids for 2 days. In my year and a half of being banded, I have NEVER had restriciton like this!

Two weeks ago my doctor discovered that my blood test reveiled that I have Hypothyroidism, and that was part of my problem with my weight. This also explains alot of the symptoms I have been having. He started me on Synthroid (a thyroid hormone medication) and I am starting to feel better and have more energy. The doctor asked me if I still wanted to get the LapBand, and I said "yes". Because I have yoyo dieted and lost and gained hundreds of pounds in my life, and I just want it to be off and stay off. Even if my thyroid gets straightened out with medication, I still feel like I need The band to win my fight with obesity. What do you guys think? I am scheduled for surg…

i am fat cause I truly am frightened of being hungry. I graze throughout the day. A cookie here...a glass of juice fifteen minutes later....a slice of bread..snack snack snack throughout the day. Would getting lap band surgery actually resolve this problem? how can i lose weight if i am always eating? I'm afraid that if i get the surgery all that will happen is that my brain will switch...I'll eat smaller portions more often. I'll just end up in the same situation I am in now...just with scars. Am I the only one with this problem or what?

Here's the scoop.... I went in Friday for a fill. I had it under Flouro and everything went fine. I'm back to solid foods and I don't notice any more restriction than I had before the fill, so I contacted my doctor about it. He said that he could try and put another .2cc's in his office (at no charge) but if he can't hit the port then I would need to go over to Radiology at the hospital so that he could do the adjustment under Flouro. Now, I'm a huge proponent of using Flouro. I can't simply imagine someone "guessing" where my port is and "hoping" that they hit it. What are the chances/risks of him missing the port and hitting the tubing? I also have th…

I have always heard that some people can't eat rice with the band--but, I can and do..that is until today. Went to lunch at a Mexican Resturant and had some rice. Everything was fine until 1-2 hours later. I started PBing-throwing up clear liquid..saliva. Called the Dr's office and they explained to me that the rice is swelling in my stomach causing me to not be able to swallow my saliva. So after being a bandster for 19 months, I am still learning! No more rice for me...and I think that this fill is going to be "it"!

Hello all... was just wanting to know what steps you took toward exercising. How did you start off? What was your first "activity" in exercise. I am assuming that we aren't just supposed to run out and get a gym membership so does anyone have any suggestions. And please don't tell me Curves gym. Ug I don't like them, they have been fired. I am particualarly interested in how you rejoined the world of exercise. Also, some options for "free" exercise (i.e. ones that don't cost money to do). Be creative!!!! Thanks.

I'm flying to Monterrey Mexico for my surgery and I'm VERY exited! I've been doing some research on the surgeon, but I still have my concerns. Has anyone ever been banded by Dr. Rodolfo Sanchez? Will I have to fly to Monterrey Mexico every time I need a fill or if there are any complications? I called my local bariatric doctor and they want to charge upwards of $500 for fills. Can anyone offer advice? I'm anxious and nervous but excited all at the same time!

Ta-da! I am now a proud member of the Banded Gentry. Everything went really well yesterday. I stayed an extra night because of my asthma, but everything went just super. If anyone has the chance, I highly recomend the facility I used in Kirkland WA. Had a very interesting chat with my surgeon, because I have no support group in the land of my exile. He said that more and more RnY patients are needed the band in addition to their replumming. He also said to not bother with the support groups for that style, that it wouldn't be worth my time. oh, and they all thought my idea that I do all those crunches was a good idea...

Just thought I'd start a thread for San Diego, even though it seems most of us are hooked up on the Yahoo group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SanDiegoBandsters/ If you are not a part of the San Diego Yahoo group, I highly recommend it. We meet once a month for a pot luck. We're a high energy positive group, and we always have lots of laughs when we're together. The experience level is from 2+ years banded, to newbies and everything in between, with at least two people at goal.

Hi everyone! I need some help covering all the questions I should ask during my pre-op appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. I have a couple already but I need some brain storming ideas with your help. I figure I'll get a bunch of info tomorrow as well as instructions after the surgery next week but I'm sure I'll be pretty groggy on Friday. I'm looking for things that you found during your experience that needed to be answered but not generally covered in the usual material. HELP! Thanks!!!

Hi Everyone, I was wondering what everyone's docs have said about what to do after a PB episode... liquids for 24 hours, 48 hours??? Is this clear fluids or just full liquids or do you stick to mushy or go back to regular eating? I had a very slight PB almost a week ago and skipped the rest of that meal, but went back to normal eating later in the day. As of last night, I have so much restriction it is difficult to get my fluids down. My educated guess is that even thought it was slight, I should have done fluids for at least 24 hours after the PB. I think by continuing to eat normally, I turned the slightest irritation into full blown swelling and now I am payi…

I started solids today. Well actually I have been eating some solids for about 3 days now. I know---Bad Me. But I really felt fine eating. Today I had Toast for the first time and it went down and I felt fine. Now I just ate some pasta with and experimental enchilada sauce over it (don't ask--low on food options). The pasta so far seems to be staying down. Could it be that all my swelling is completely down and maybe after my fill I will notice for sure if I have problems with certian foods?

I had my sixth fill yesterday. It was hard earned...the doc always has a hard time finding my port and he had to poke me quite a bit to find it. Just when he was going to give up, he got it. He gave me .25cc's and then I drank the barrium...I love seeing on the tv what it feels like in my stomach. We both thought it looked good..but just for good measure I always drink some water. So, the water gurgled down nicely and I am so happy. This morning I had three bites of yogurt and I was full. It's such a great feeling. I ate a small piece of banana bread for a mid morning snack and that went down just fine...I feel like I just ate the whole loaf...that's why restri…

I am new to the group and am investigating having a Lap Band Surgery because I am tired of all my health problems and being overweight. I am "blessed" with hypothyroidism on top of high blood pressure and ovarian tumors. Anyway, I am looking for a doctor in Indiana or Illinois. Can anyone assist and also tell me what I am in for. I am about 240 lbs. If this is somewhere in a range where you started, can you tell me how much you've lost and how long it took? Thanks for all your assistance.
