Mind-bending NSV!!!

On the wall in this room is a photo frame with pix from my parents' wedding back in 1953. Hung from the frame is a piece of ribbon with my mother's wedding band attached. (Although my parents' marriage wasn't successful, their wedding was on the lawn of the house where we now live, and this room has a lot of old photos like that.)

My mother stopped wearing her ring when I was about 10 and that's when I first discovered it didn't fit. You can imagine the shame I felt, and since then her ring has always been some sort of talisman that I knew I could never wear. She used to keep it hidden because it was painful for both of us when I would play with it.

Tonight the wedding band caught my eye and I decided to try it on. IT FIT!! It was even LOOSE!! This ring has not fit me in my entire life. Both of my parents, somewhere, are absolutely amazed and delighted. As am I.

Wow. :D

What a great NSV!! I think you should wear the ring. IT is a symbol of your parents. Not so much that the marriage didn't work out but to me it represents your parents union and out of that union you were produced. SO wear that ring proudly. Put a positive spin on it.

Well, I've put the ring on my right hand. It feels weird--it's a wide band and very present. But Penni's right, it commemorates my parents' union and the birth of their children, all of which happened long before they broke up. It has their initials and the date engraved on the inside, which makes me feel close to both of them though they're long gone. I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly.

Babs, you should get your rings re-sized...what are you waiting for?? I had my engagement ring reset completely a couple of months ago. It was way too big and had to be cut, so I got a whole new setting that fit with the original stones. It was worth every penny. Go for it!!

That's awesome Alex, now you can proudly wear 2 bands knowing both have far more significance than their physical presence.

Sometimes the perfect thing happens at the perfect time, and this story has great timing. Be really careful with that ring - insert a sizer if you have to. I have a similar story with Gramma's wedding band, but I was whomping through the sand on a quadrunner at the beach years ago, and the ring flew off. I should have KrazyGlue'd it to my hand.
