Ok, this morning I was standing in the closet with only my under clothes on and my husband said "gosh, your waist is already getting so small." So of course, I had to go to the mirror and look. He was right it does look much smaller, and too some of the swelling is going down. The problem is I look like an upside down ice cream cone. My waist is to small in proportion to my gut and hips. I decided to try on some of my pantsuits. I go back to work on Thursday. Well, they fit better all over but the waist is way to big, I tried a smaller size and the waist fits better (still loose) but still a little tight around the gut. Does/Did anyone else have this type of problem? …

I am a week post-op and healing slowly. My pain is mostly around my port area which I know is common. Today was my first day back in school (I'm a student). I sat through 2 classes and then had a 2 hour long lab. Thank God I didn't pass out when I had to stick others with needles! I am starting to really doubt the decision I have made. I miss food terribly. My doctor has me on a 6 week liquid post-op diet. He won't even let me have Jello. The most filling thing I can eat is my Protein shakes. I go in for my 2 week post-op appointment in about a week. According to the scales in lab I have already lost 15 pounds. Not only do I miss eating, but I really feel like crap.…

Okay, I am off work for recovery until Thursday and I am bored to death. I have been home since Saturday and I have already cleaned the house, done my filing, done the laundry, cleaned out some drawers, cleaned out my makeup, cleaned out the refrigerator, cleaned out my purse, restocked my travel bag.........been out walking and done more walking but since we are having horrible storms now I am stuck inside. I never really thought about being bored like this. I guess now that I think of it I have never been home like this before so I don't know what to do with myself. I think I know now why a couple of my friends say I have ADD. Edit, oh actually I think it is OCD (Obs…

Well it sounds like my sister in law is having the band removed on monday morning, the dr's have discovered that lesions have grown in her stomach which makes it very difficult to drink liquids, liquids aren't forceful enough to get thru this now very small opening, food can pass more easily because it's more forceful. The dr is leaving the decision up to her as far as her options which are gastric bypass, or a larger band ( this doesn't guarantee it wont happen again). Has anyone else experienced this. She must make a decision prior to Monday morning HELP

:cross-eye Hi, I am new to this group and in desperate need of support. I had my lap surgery in February 2002. It only took about 8 months and I had lost over 75 lbs. I continued on loosing until around March of 2004. I lost a grand total of over 125 lbs. It was at this point that I started having problems with the attention I was getting over the weight loss and how good I was looking. I began sliding and gaining weight and eventually in July 2004 had all of the fill removed from my band. Now over a year later, I am within 12 pounds of my all time high. August 3 2005 I went back and had 2cc put back in and I have already dropped 25 lbs. I have been working on my 'issu…

My wife just went thru Mandatory CPR training at her work. A girl she works with has had RNY and she won't allow the instructor to demonstrate on her because she said she heard it won't work on her because of the surgery. Does CPR work on lapbanded people and what about the (oh God I don't now how to spell it so her goes) Hymlick. Will it work??? My Dr said he doesn't believe it will. Looking for someone who may know this because I think its important for us to know. I realize that due to our extensive chewing of food were are less prone to choke but damn you never know. And I don't really care if doing this on me blows out the band. That can be repaired. Can…

My restriction is gone, where did it go, has anyone seen it??? I am in so desperate need of another fill, I have lost my restriction and my will power as well. My ps said I can't have another fill for another two months, so I hope I can stop this binging. I am totally amazed at the amount I can eat. Today for lunch I had a 6 in ham/cheese from subway, bread and all, I hadn't been able to eat bread in a long time. Then an hour ago, I ate a glazed donut, the whole thing. What is wrong with me. I just came back from spending a gazillion dollars on ps and enduring so much pain and have lost my focus. I think part of it is that I'm not totally feeling well and letting …

Does anyone out there keep up with their fat grams per day or just the protein? I am trying to get it figured out and need to know what all I need to keep up with. When I do the food journal on Fit Day and do the pie chart it shows a lot of my daily food intake is coming from fat grams, about half. The other half is coming from protein. So does anyone know if we have to count them or what? Thanks.

What happens if you get sick in your stomach? Not PB but say you have morning sickness, get the stomach flu, or a virus? What about strep throat or bronchitis or something that makes you do lots of coughing? Does it cause the band to slip? I am not having any of these problems, I just want to be prepared. Thanks!

Hi all. One of my patients suggested that I "formally" introduce myself here, as there are a number of comments about me, and it would make sense for me to answer the questions myself rather than have others answer them for me. I have specialized in laparoscopic surgery since 1989, and have been doing bariatric surgery for the past 3 years. I do both LapBand and Lap Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. I've done about 130 of each procedure. I've always tried to be cost-effective, minimizing the use of expensive disposable instruments. After doing a number of procedures, I approached the administration at one of my hospitals and asked them to review my cases and come up wit…

I got home from Mexico this evening. I got my band on Thursday afternoon and I am feeling great, but I was a little tired after being on the planes and in airports and going through customs today so I took a nap when I got home. When I woke up in recovery from the surgery I was in pain (mostly my shoulder), but it subsided by that evening and was gone by the time I was released from he hospital Friday morning. My stomach is swelled though, in fact I look pregnant. My incisions look really good. I haven't needed any pain medication and get full with just a little liquid. I don't think I can get 64oz. of Water down in a day right now. I will try and do better on th…

I am starting to plan my vacation while at Disney and making the reservations at the restaurants and so on. I am concerned with what I should eat. My surgery was August 4 and right now I am still on pureed foods, Monday I start minced and then next weekend regular. Will I be able to eat salads and such? I have been craving a salad with some chicken on it and black olives. Do I need to concern myself with this, or will I be OK to basically eat anything that would be considered a healthy choice. Maybe a tuna sandwich or a hamburger?

banana.gif" /> Hi Everyone.... I had my 1st post op visit today. I was banded 8/10. I lost 8lbs since the surgery for a total of 24 so far! I am very excited! Now the bad news, I am on another week of liquids due to the fact I am drinking too fast and my chest is very uncompfortable. Dr. Kwon wants me to slow it down to be more band friendy! I can also start walking some. He said not to over do it though. Talk to you soon! Lisa Marie

I know that I don't have restriction because I have never had a fill. Last night I waited too long to eat and I ate a piece of chicken kind of fast. I felt like there was a rock in my chest, it eventually passed but I don't understand. I thought that everything went down easy until a fill. It usually take me 25 minutes to eat a chicken breast and a little bit of salad, could there be something wrong or is this the way it should be. I am following protien first and then salad, I am not hungry but I am never really full.

Good and Bad, I had my first PB with puking friday night. My twin sister and my daughter took off friday night for a weekend at a friends cabin on a lake about an hour south of Seattle. Traveling with a 3+ year old is always exciting. We had to make a pit (or pee) stop for Sophie at a McDonalds. I wisely had eaten before I left home. Of course, that didn't stop me from horking down a bite of Sophie's chicken mcnugget and a couple of french fries. Holy Mother of God! I worried the hell out of my twin sister. After those bites, my eyes filled with tears, and I got that wonderful (OR WONDER-FULL)--(I WONDER WHAT MADE ME FEEL SO FULL) feeling. My mouth filled with…

Just went to the walk-in clinic (Sunday). Thought I had a bladder infection and , of course, I do. I am so upset since my surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. The doctor today and the pharmist thought I would O.K. for surgery, but I will, of course, call my surgeon first thing Monday morning. I was put on a 3 day heavy-duty antibotic... Anyone have something similar to this happen to them prior to surgery? If so, what happened? I will just be nuts if they postponed my surgery!!!

I can't believe after all of this BCBS denied my claim, stating that the Dr.'s 12month monitored plan was insufficient and that I needed to provide 5 years of comorbidity. My Insulin Resistance from long-term PCOS had led to the excess weight and is leading down the path to Type II Diabetes. I'm so upset right now I can't stop crying. I can't believe this is happening to me, and now my Doctor says I'll have to start all over with another physician because he's moving to Arizona to retire in September. Basically he tried, but I need to start over another full year of physician supervised weight loss diet & exercise plan. I'm so hurt - I thought this was my chance…

This post is for anyone with insulin resistance. I'm curious what medication (if any) are you on. I was taking metformin but it gave me severe abdominal pain. My doctor told me there is no other medication to switch me to. So, I'm just curious if anyone is taking anything else. Thanks for your help.

I Hope somebody out there can give some more good advice to me. Last night at about 7:00 I must have not liquified my jello bite and must have swallowed to big a chunck. You'd think this would melt and go down. I began to feel reflux (I think). I didn't BP I only spit a little foam but it was painful in my chest right near my sternum. I was still trying to walk it off at 1:30AM because if I lay down it hurts more. By 2:00AM I am able to fall asleep on my stomach and slept for 2 hrs and was up again. I walked and layed. I kept having a hard type hiccup now and then and I think that made my sternum really sore through out this day. I layed back down at about 5:30 until 7:3…

I broke and had to have a real cup of coffee tonight. I have been drinking this substitute called "Raja's Cup" which is really good but I missed my good ole cup of "International Caffe Vienna". Well that was a mistake. I have horrible heart palpitations now. I also have some muscular tenderness like when you do too many butterfly exercises (you know "I must I must I must increase my bust" exercises.) OK so back to Raja's Cup for me. Damnit. LOL!!

My temptation yesterday, came in the form of warm, moist Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts LOL. We don't have a Krispy Kreme here in Melbourne, but it was one of my favorite places to visit as a child, growing up in SC. They built one in Sydney last year and as my husband came back from a business trip yesterday, he was kind enough (or is that sadistic enough LOL), to pick up a dozen of these wonderful little morsels. I could smell them as he stepped off the plane. My mouth started watering. Then I realized, they don't call them doughnuts for no reason. These tempting little demons were going to get in my pouch, expand and make the big ugly elephants walk on my chest…

Hey all. Okay, I'm newly banded (5/20). I've had a couple of instances where I have eaten something and it feels like it is stuck in my throat. It doesn't hurt where I think it should ... like lower toward the stomach. Am I wrong? Is this where it is supposed to hurt (sounded weird, didn't it)? And I was just asked by the hubby ... can you choke? I don't know the answer. Kari

well, I made it. I went back to work today. My boss (the one I didn't want to tell about my surgery) wasn't there. I am grateful. To start the day off my alarm went off at 4:55 AM. It scared me and I reached over quickly turn it off, a not to disturb Harry's sleep. I proceeded to have a sharp pain in my port incision from the stretching. OUCH!!!!! So, I slowly roll over and stand up right as best I can clutching my port incision. I feel my way to the bathroom in the dark. I push the scales out into the open so I can stand on them. WHOOOHOOOO! I am down to 288! I am 6 days post op and have lost 6 pounds. I proudly push the scale back between the toilet and the tub. I tu…

How many have overweight or obese kids too? I never know which is the best way to tackle this problem. My kids arent fat but my oldest son most definitely has a lot of potential to be. He's pretty lazy and he loves to eat. I've found at time when I've been rock bottom and just not motivated in any way to look after myself properly then my kids' diets suffer too. Over the past year I've made the utmost effort to feed my kids well, as a family we eat really well. I'm quite strict with what they're only allowed to eat on a very infrequent basis, takeaway, lollies etc. We never have biscuits or cakes in the house, but they do like their school lunch orders and the sch…

Hi everyone- I'm new to the group and have my surgery scheduled for 8/19- I would like to know when those of you who exercise regulary started after surgery? I know you need to recover, but I'm used to doing interval training with nautilus 2-3 times a week. I don't want to totally get out of that mode if I don't have to... but I think the weights might be a problem. Any advice?

I am very interested in doing a LapBand and impressed with what I've learned so far, but I've talked to several Dr's/Office's that say that they do not do them because of the complications (then they cite the possibilities of the band moving) and say they feel that the FDA will withdraw support. Yet I can't find anything on the web about people complaining about the LapBand or anything very negative in the least about it. So, what's up? Is it just that they closed their minds to the procedure after the first batch showed some problems (that seem to be resolved). I'd appreciate anyone's wisdom, thoughts and ideas.
