I've read so many posts about erosions and slippages (and a few flipped ports) that I'm wondering just how long some of you have had your bands. Can you keep them indefinitely? Does anyone have a clue what causes erosion? Could it possibly be something done in the first surgery when it is placed, or is it stomach acid or something. That would do me in. I already have an ulcer to clear up, and couldn't stand having another one. Will the band work if you can't exercise. I have arthritis and a plate and screws in my left leg from a bad break. It always hurts, but I do believe it hurts more the more weight I gain. I have an important question. I have a pouch (I th…

  3. Hey all ... I'm looking for anyone who has experienced what I have been. I have trouble eating ... doesn't really matter what I eat or what time of the day I eat it. I eat and it feel as though it's stuck inside my throat. Eventually I will PB ... because the saliva starts going to get it moved through. I don't get a full feeling, and I think it's because stuff is stuck in my throat. I'm really worried. There was a lady on OH whose esophogas stopped pushing food through. She had to have her band removed and had the DS. I DO NOT want to consider another type of surgery. My surgeon is new at the band and I am FREAKING OUT! Kari

  5. I've been reading where a lot of programs require you to lose some weight before you can get banded. I'm wondering if it's just an arbitrary number of pounds to show you are committed or if it's a % of your body weight or something.

I thought the band working by food going from the mouth into the pouch and then slowly filtering down to the rest of my stomach. But I don't get this because how come when I eat something that isn't going to go down I PB right away. Wouldn't it take some time to sit in the pouch beforer it decided if it was going to go down or not?

Hello all, need a sounding board and any additional information I can get. I went to the hospital a week ago past Friday and had a ultrasound on my gall bladder and a EDG. Yesterday, (Friday) I was informed I had gall stones and need to have my gall bladder removed. I understand this is important because I do not want to have to have the gall bladder removed after having band surgery. I read somewhere that the doctor can remove the gall bladder and place the band at the same time. Has anyone had this procedure done? The nurse in my doctor's office said this cannot be done. Help! I rarely get invitied to any functions in my neighborhood because I don't belong to the predominant church in my area. I got invited to "craft night" at a neighbors house and I was thrilled. I sat at a table with 3 young women who were all skinny. All they talked about (besides their church activities) was how they needed to lose 5-10 pounds and how hard it was to lose weight when you only need to lose a little and how they are stay at home mom's and can work out anytime they want. I wasn't upset with them since they seemed to be nice and had great lives, but I felt so out of place! I don't seem to fit in anywhere. I felt so huge and self conscious sitting there. …

  18. not chewing enough, not taking small enough bites and not eating slow enough. Lesson to be learned, you really do have to CHEW, CHEW, CHEW and eat very slowly and very small bites We went out for our anniversary and I ate a crabcake and two bites of my husband steak and even a bit of dessert. So I am just going to really have to adjust to my latest fill.

Does anyone else feel this way? I've lost 15 1/2 inches total since being banded, but I've mostly lost them in my boobs & hips. My butt is totally gone (being Black, we like to have big booties... think of Beyonce) Anyway, I really wanted to lose my stomach, and it's just not happening. Even though my pants fit like clown pants, I can still wear them because if I pull them up over my stomach just right, they will stay there. In the hips & thighs, way to big.

It seems to me that some people are more proactive when it comes to their "fills" and that being this way keeps weight loss progressing along. Am I right? What I'm thinking is that if you go for a period of time with no wgt loss - and you are not feeling restricted or much of a restriction - it's time to line up a "fill". Am I seeing different levels of comfort in the progression of weight loss? Or am I dead wrong, that there are some people that no matter how much they "fine-tune" their band - their wgt loss is going to be slow? I've read about people loosing 20 lbs in a year and then there are those that have lost 10 lbs. a month consistently. And I'm speaking o…

Anyway I got 2.5 cc's in my 4cc band. And we did the floro so we saw the fluid going down fine. On my way home I noticed that I was having issues with belching, which before the fill it was the total opposite. I was belching like a frat boy on a saturday night. So once I got home 45 mins later I had a hot cup of tea. My chest felt really tight, and I was in serious pain. Gas pain I think. My stomach was seriously bloated. I also need some other good flavors to buy when I go back-any suggestions? Thanks!

That is the question! I am newly banded and filled. When I eat more than I should or something gets stuck, I feel very tight. However, I have not really had the real urge to vomit. I know if I did vomit I would feel better but my Dr. told me to vomit as little as possible. Is it better to make myself vomit at this time or wait it out? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have been telling my mom, (also banded), that it's not normal to pb with every meal now for two months. The doctor in a nice way, fussed at her for not telling him sooner. She told him she thought it would get better. She's now on liquids and scheduled for upper GI on Friday. I realize she thought she was adjusting to the fill and the like so many bandsters wrongfully think, if i'm nice and tight, I will lose the weight faster, NOT! I just hope it's not too late and she does not lose her band. My reason for this thread is to advise you it is not normal to spit back or pb with every meal. If you are, then you are either eating too fast, not chewing enough, or you ma…

Okay, as y'all know, my DH was banded a couple of years before I was. He is down to 410 pounds, and has been enjoying that weight for the last few months. This is the smallest I've ever known him. Also, he has been at least 400 pounds all his adult life, so there has been some issues where he simply not ready to go further with his loss. Well, last week he got another fill and rededicated himself to losing weight. He did this so that he can better relate to my struggles. I've been slightly anoyed with him for the last several months because he hasn't been trying to lose weight, eating around his band, and generally not working his weight loss. I was given plenty of morphine quickly as I woke in recovery so that took care of pain for most of the day. I ended up pacing the floor for a few hours because I felt better standing up and moving than lying flat, in the end I was given some sedatives to allow me to get some sleep and this morning I woke up feeling fab. Hi everyone. I didn't go to the gym today. We had our first snow storm of the season and I just wanted to hang out home today. Anyway, I have the Leslie Sansone Walk away the pounds and I did the 3 mile walk today and it was awesome, it was a nice little work out and I recommend it for those folks who don't want to go to the gym, would rather work out at home, it was a great deal of fun and I thought I would tell everyone about it since we are all recovering and healing post surgery. Let me know if any of you try it. I like the excercise bands that come with it, you get cardio and strength training at the same time. Happy exercising.
