Well my fiance is getting banded, and i wanted to join this board to start reading up on this stuff, just so if she needs to talk to someone about it, i'll be able to lend a knowlegable ear on the subject, and be able to understand what she might be going through. I might be poking around here and there and asking some questions, maybe i'll even start to be able to help other people on the board with the information i've collected. I just want her to know that im 100% behind her on this, and i want to be with her every step of the way.

Just wanted to say hello to everyone and tell you how much help this forum has been. I've been lurking around for a long time reading everything I can about the lapband. Have been researching it for about 2 years. The actual journey, starting with a seminar in Aug. '06, and will be realized on Feb. 12th. I'm very lucky that my insurance will cover surgery or I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. Retired teachers usually aren't rolling in money. I'll try not to bore you with too many details. Been overweight, and undertall, most of my life. Would like to loose about half a person. For 32 years I taught in NY State then retired to FL with DH, the dog and cat. …

Hi everyone, My name is Michelle (BMI 43.6) and I live in a little suburb outside of Chicago. I just went to my first seminar and I have decided to go ahead and be lapbanded. I am waiting for my first appt. with Dr. Bonomo at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, to start my long road that leads to a happy, healthy life. I hope to make friends with others who have had, waiting to have, or thinking about having lapband!!! If you have had Dr. Bonomo write me and let me know what you like and dislike about him or his program, I would appreciate it so much!!!! I think it's terrific you all support each other and are there to listen, and I hope to be apart of all of this.

I am coming to the end of the process before I can get a surgery date. I have an EGD scheduled for Friday and my Medical Clearance exam next Tuesday. Since I am a self-pay, I should get a surgery date pretty soon after all that. But, I still have a lot of concerns. After reading a lot of the posts here, I'm afraid the band won't work. I've been on a self-imposed 1100 calorie a day diet since New Years and haven't lost very much. What if the band doesn't work? Do you still have food cravings? Some people seem to have a lot of pain and others not so much. Also, since I'm paying for this myself, what if there are complications? I know the insurance doesn't cover it if th…

Next week I go see my hometown doctor to talk to him about it. I'm hoping this journey will go pretty smoothly (atleast as well as i am seeing it in my mind)...I'm 5'7"-5'8" with a BMI of 49 so i'm praying insurance and all else will follow through....

Hello. I got my band placed in Oct. 06. Things have been going ok. Recently I found myself eating way too much and the weight loss has stopped. I've lost 20 lbs. so far, but I expected much more. I go for my second fill tomorrow, so hopefully the doctor will reassure me that I'm doing ok. I am from St. Louis, MO and my surgery was done by Dr. Van Wagner. The surgery went smooth and I haven't had any side effects. I'm just frusted how everything has stopped. You invest so much money and stress, you expect results. I know it will come, I just have to be patient. Anyway, I'm glad to have found a support group. I am hoping this will help. Have a great week!

I haven't eaten since Dec 31st. broth and Jello just taste like dirt now. 2 days after surgery, my face broke out with the nastiest fungus. I look awful! I have finally reached an appt with the surgeon. After the initial visits and phsych reviews, 5% weight loss and numerous blood tests...the day will finally be here on 2/5. I thought I was ready but I find myself getting more and more nervous lately over it. I know I definitely still want to go through with the lapband surgery but it is becoming a reality now. I only started 2 1/2 months ago and when I first went in they said it could be 6 months to a year before I am at this stage...I am glad it wasn't that long, but now I am more anxious to have this part over and start my new lifestyle. I heard it should only be about 6 weeks after this initial visit with the s…

I asked why and she told me that their were guidelines that needed to be mett before she would approve me for surgery. I asked her what the problem was and she said she would have to get back with me on that. This doctor has dragged this out for over 6 weeks now and I feel like she is holding me hostage. Friday I asked her if she would please call me back with my chart to help me understand why she will not pass me through, she never called me . I feel like I am going to get stuck with her for months of psycotherapy and not be able to follow through with the surg…

Hi everyone. 3-1/2 days post-op and pretty sore but feeling ok. Just wish I could get rid of this headache. After the first 36 hours, it seems like the band tighted up or something.... maybe swelling set in?? The first day didn't have any trouble getting anything down. now can hardly get water down. I did get most of one protein shake down today and about 1/2 cup of cream of potatoe soup. Just a sip or two and a pain in the center of my chest where I assume the band is. Everything sound pretty normal about this? Think maybe the headach is from not getting enough calories the past 2 days but not sure.

  15. Hi, glad to be here. Went to Psych eval. today went very well. They approved me for surgery, so far everyone has been very supportive. When I left the mental health clinic I stopped by the Bariatic Clinic to drop off some paperwork from my PCP that I just got on Friday, that is where things went down hill. I ask for them to check my file to make sure that everything was in order. The woman that deals with that came from the back with my chart and she acted less that happy to see me. She opened my chart and said that I don't have a lot in there, alot of labs as she fanned though the pages. I ask he she received my records from the the other two doctors I had requested them…

I have been doing well, it is just taking my big incision forever to heal and over the last couple of days has started to hurt. I have lost around 20 pounds (not too sure because my scale went caput) but all my clothes are fitting better. I am excited to get my first fill, though I am a bit nervous. I feel like I can eat like I should, but not like I want to. I am having a hard time because I mentally want to eat more, but I physically can't. I can eat more than I expected. I guess this will change after my first fill. Keep on Keeping on, Ginger

I almost went to Mexico, but chickened out - Dr. B was more expensive, but, as a self-pay, my fills (under fluoro) for the first year are included.
