  1. Hello everyone. I've been thinking about the lap band for several years now. I've finally decided I've got to do something before it's to late. I have an apt with my family doctor to discuss the lap band tomorrow. I'm not sure how she feels about it or if she will support me in the process, but I thought that she would be the first place to start. How do you decide which doctor to use? We have several bariatric facilities here, but I don't have a clue which doctor or facility to use. Any suggestions on finding a doctor in my area? As it stands right now, my insurance does not cover it but we are working on that. Either way I will have the lap band done if everythin…

I had to switch to a different doctor at the last minute and went with a doctor who charged me $3,500 for a "program fee". It is a total rip off, offers nothing, and has not been a good doctor or office. Beware of "program fees". Most of the people on lapbandtalk.com don't have this fee. I was banded 1 1/2 weeks ago. So... I've been lurking on this website for atleast an hour a day for the past three weeks. Now that things are getting rough and my life is changing I think it's finally time to come out of the dark and introduce myself so I can get the support and encouragment that made me fall in love with this site. I've excused it for the past 5 years because I've been an athlete (Soccer, track, and rugby, and weight lifting) however, In february I broke my lovely athletic fo…

I just met with my PCP today and she has agreed that its time for me to take the steps to get some help with my weight loss, and gave me the name and number of Giselle Hammad. I am attending her seminar on August 7th at Magee, and I was wondering if any of you out there has gone through her. I've heard from my doc's office that she is great. Also, after I get my approval from my insurance, what should I anticipate next? What is the time frame I am looking for from testing to surgery day? I am a stay a home mom so I can get a lot of my testing done as quickly as they can schedule it. Thanks! Heather

I have had my lap band for 4 years. I have had some issues with acid at night in the past but prilosec and tums usually help. But recently, I have been having a chronic, wet cough when I relax into a sleep that lasts for hours. It is wet and feels like it is in my chest or lungs. If I get any fluid to come to my mouth, it is either clear or yellow but not brown. When I wake up in the morning my chest is tight and it takes a couple of hours before I feel normal again. I do not have huge restriction with my band right now, very average eating ability (plenty of food but not unlimited) I have not been losing weight lately and I would like to lose 20 more pounds. He wanted me to look into LapBand. I trust this guy. He found my uterine cancer and performed my surgery. Will be cancer free for a year on 9/3/09. I'm ready to live better now and live longer. Most of my obese history is the same as many others here I'm sure. I really wasn't over weight until about puberty and as I started to become "chubby" there were many in my family to remind me of it, mostly my two step brothers who were older and verbally abusive to me and my younger biological brother. The more I was teased about it the more I ate and I'm sure others may find that what I'm saying isn't an excuse for being over weight and I'm not saying it is, but it was a contributing factor in the beginnin…

The study includes a survey and an interview with each couple partner. All expenses (such as mailings, travel) are incurred by me. It has been my observation that although the number of weight loss surgeries performed is increasing, there is little attention to the impact and adjustment that couples go through following surgery. 28. I have done most of my preops that are necessary, but my surgery was pushed back because my insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet. My plan is to be banded in November, but I'm wondering if I should find a new Dr. The reason I'm considering this is I remember signing a paper that said I would pay a huge sum of money prior to surgery (I think around $2,500) not covered by insurance- for program fees or after surgery care. Will I end up paying that even if I found someone else? My Dr. now is Dr. R. Pinnar in VA. Does anyone have any recommendations?

  50. Hello! I was looking for a place to get some advice and share experiences. My one year anniversary is coming up soon. It has been an interesting year. I had my surgery in Little Rock Arkansas and a few months later my family and I moved to Germany. I was on filled to 4.5 ccs when I left the States and did not feel much restriction. I had lost 40lbs though. I got a referal to a German doctor a couple of months after I got here. The fill experience was very different as the put me in front of a Xray and doubled the amount! Talk about a huge difference! I look forward to getting to know you all!
