Does anyone wear a Medical Alert Bracelet??
I was banded in Cairns on 20 Oct 09. Before I left hospital the Nurse handed me a little card to carry in my purse saying that "This Patient has undergone a surgical procedure to place an adjustable band around the stomach to assist in the treatment of Obesity. Before prescribing medication or performing any gastric procedure, please consult the patients surgeon or a qualified medical professional." It has my name on it and my surgeons name on it. I is similar to the medic alert Emergency assist card that anyone who wears a medic alert would carry ( I wear a medic alert for drug allergies! but have not added my band onto the information as yet. Guess I should though. Hope this helps Linda

Anyone from Canberra, Also did anyone have defence health insurance was it covered
Hi! I was banded on 20th Oct 09. By Defense Health I am assuming you mean Navy Health!! I am insured with them, My total costs were just over $3000, plus I had to pay $500 hospital extra. I am in Atherton, Far Northern Queensland. Good luck on your journey to a better life Linda

when do you get 1st fill
I see my Dr again on 9th November...I hope he does a fill for me then, I cant really say I'm super hungry but I could keep eating! it is only pure will power thats stopping me so far. I havent lost any weight since the op either,

when do you get 1st fill
I think it is way to early to know if I do have any restriction just from the band. My guess is that it is all still a little swollen from the actual op. I don't feel hungry though (except mind hunger) and when I do eat even my mushy stuff I feel like Ive had enough! because I would be too scared to over eat at the moment I don't have any real discomfort eating either. I hope my case is the same as your. my weight loss to date is mostly pre-op Linda

Im now done! :)
different dietitian I guess, My food is still almost liquid, but it is not just Soups. I can vitimize anything low fat that I like and thin it down with either stock or low fat milk. it is not really different to the liquid but much tastier

when do you get 1st fill
mushy stage, I am not having any trouble with it, I don't feel the slightest bit hungry! I do feel a sort of fullness after 1/2 cup mush, maybe it's wind behind the food, that's what it feels like anyway. it's hard to describe. I'm doing a lot of burping.:cursing: cheers Linda

was at goal now put on stone
Just a quickie for the record. A stone is the old weighing system, 16 ounces =1 pound. 14 pound = 1 stone. 2.2pound (lb)=1 kilo LOL I am showing my age now. I agree that if you are able to eat solids easily then you most likely need a fill. Good Luck Linda

Im now done! :)
wow! this is soooo weird because for years my husband has insisted that we have our noisy old air-conditioner running all night on fan just to drown out the noise of my snoring...the last two nights! NO AIRCON...and he reckons Im not snoring either...this alone is a bonus as it has cause many a tiff in my household. LOL it's a week tomorrow...I am starting the mushy stage...WooHoo... vitamised chicken and vegs...Yum! I was so sick of liquid. Linda

First day after Op 20th Oct 2009
I am also well endowed, I do use a bra with no underwire but best thing is a tight T shirt rolled up under the bust to soften the weight on the incisions...you can wear a loose top over it so nobody knows. LOL

Sneezing and pain
I find if I have to sneeze or cough it helps to "brace" the tummy using a cushion or small pillow just until the wounds heal properly Linda

50 Kg down - WHOHOOO!!!
Congratulation's! Well done. you really have worked hard to get where you are! I cant wait to do the same Linda

Im now done! :)
Hey Meg's, I had my band done on Tuesday 20th and like you have had very minimal pain. I did however get the worst of raging headaches that lingered till yesterday, residual gasses from the anesthetic they tell me. I am surprised at how itchy my tummy is tho! I guess it means I am healing, I never had stitches! just steri strips.. anyway we are off on an exciting journey for the better part of our lives cheers Linda

lapbanders called cheats
Hey there pipedoc, Firstly just let me say that I wont hold it against you because you ride a Harley!!! ( I ride a Yamaha cruiser). I know what you are saying about people accepting the lapband news. I have found my husbands mates are far more supportive of my desision to be banded than any of my so called girlfriends...maybe that is a testosterone thing or maybe women that don't support me are just envious themselves.what ever the story I am being banded tomorrow morning and I will not be labeled as a cheat..just a middle aged woman who wants the next decade to be way better than the last 2. http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wndOoC3
