I'm eight days out, and was on full liquids one week before surgery, and my doctor wants my on full/clear liquids for two weeks post-op. I really haven't been that hungry until yesterday and today. I did really well all day, trying to stay busy because I'm feeling so much better than last week, but tonight I made myself a bowl of really chunky chicken soup that I ran through the blender. It was the consistency of thin baby food (little tiny chunks), now I'm stuffed and uncomfortable, and I'm worried that I might have done something I shouldn't. Is it way too early for mushies?

My doc wanted me to pick up all the food before my surgery that I would need for 2 weeks. I have a lot of clear liquid stuff. I'm having problems with "full liquids". I don't like cream soups. Split pea is about the only soup I eat. Any ideas?

I had my surgery on 04/11 and I have lost approximately 13 pounds since that day. For some reason in my head I believe I should have lost more weight by now. I am a big girl and I have read postings regarding peoples big weight loss numbers early on I am feeling a little discouraged. I know I need to get over it but just needed to say it to someone.... :wink2:

The night before I was super nervous and didn't sleep a lot. I went from feeling excitement to scared to nervous back to excitement. I was scheduled to arrive at the surgery center at 8am. My surgery was scheduled for 9:30am. When I arrived, I was a self pay so I spent the 1st 15-20minutes taking care of the bill. Then they took me into an office and I signed a bunch of forms that explaind the risks, authorization for blood etc. My surgeon poked his head in, met my husband and said he would see me shortly. I finished with the paperwork and went back into the waiting room. The surgical nurse came to get me and told me they would prep me and then my husband could …

I ate a pretty big lunch yesterday, and when I got home (about 1 hr later) I drank a big glass of tea. When I bent over to pick some clothes up out of the floor, all my lunch and tea came spewing out. (gross, I know). So I was wondering if this was the big "PB" I keep hearing so much about? I did not have any pain, and did not wretch or heave, it just spewed out that one time while I was bent over and then it was over. Any thoughts????

Reading these really helped me before my surgery, so I thought I'd share my experience. I had my surgery Monday, 4/28. I had surgery as a child but none since and so for all practical purposes this might as well have been my first surgery. I was very worried about the IV b/c I am impossible to get a vein on, complications, mistakes, etc. I have to say this was so easy I can't believe it. When my surgery was scheduled, my doc gave me a rx for a 48 hour antinausea drug to take the morning of surgery and and the liquid Lortab (brand name for hydrocodone). The morning of surgery, I went to the hospital at 5:45 a.m., got into a private room, met my nurse, who took my …

Like another thread here, I have found it so helpful to read the experiences of others that I thought I'd post my own. Two days before surgery, I went to my surgeon's office to get weighed, have blood drawn and sign papers. I was on no specific pre-op diet (other than having to lose 5% of my original weight and not gain it back before surgery). As part of this visit, they discovered that my blood pressure (BP) was running low with a diastolic of 60 (I was taking BP meds). It was also at this appointment where I got prescriptions for lortab liquid (pain) and compazine (suppository for nausea). My hospital (Bon Secours in Port Jervis, NY) has a bariatric unit (Center …

I also have very light pain when i take deep breaths where my stomach is. not sure if it is the incision pain on my abs or its my band. My stomach is still swollen especially where the port is, how long does it take for that swelling to go down. you input will really help me

so my symptoms are: sore spot in the middle of my chest (mid sternum). my chest feels like i have bronchitis all the time. the pain meds (Hydrocodone APAP Solution) seems to take a bit of the edge off, but does not kill all them pain. also is there anything else i can do to help the pain (besides walking). i walked the other day, and after 4 blocks felt pretty sihtty. that is so weird to me, because before the opp i could do 45min on the treadmill at 3.8mph and 1.5% grade. now i'm winded and in pain the day after my banding - walking only 4 blocks or so.

Ok, weird thing happened to me this weekend-but first, coming up on my 1 year band anniversary, 3 fills, perfect restriction but bordering too tight (only liquids for breakfast and lunch and small dinner) but I'm OK with that...............anyway: this weekend was walking around and crossed my arms over my chest....felt a weird almost vibrating sensation coming from my rib cage. (not my stomach) At first I thought it was somehow my cell phone vibrating in my pocket, but phone was in my purse. I shrugged it off.............. a while later, crossed my arms again over my chest and the same thing happened, but even more pronounced. No pain just this weird "moving" vibrati…

I am a little discouraged. I was losing weight like crazy last week. I have stayed the same weight for nearly 3 days now and I am barely eating. I wish I could eat more, but I am so full, so quick. It takes me two hours to drink my Protein shake in the morning. I have to double up on the scoops just so I can get in my protein requirements for the day. I don't eat hit 500 calories a day. I barely pee and I have only had one bowel movement since leaving the hospital. If I sip a half a cup of Soup, I am full. I have learned not to take one more sip of anything because the pain in my chest is excruciating. I had to stay two extra days at the hospital right after surgery…

My husband, like most of you i'm sure is so sick of soup that he could spit. I know all doctors are different, so I was wondering how soon after surgery were you allowed to have mushies. He is down 33 pounds since Feb. 23 when we went for the seminar and has been on liquieds for 3 weeks. I know we should follow the dietians orders, I am just asking for the different opinions from everyones doctor. Thanks.

hi everybody, i was banded (that sounds weird to me) beginning of February. My dr. told me not to expect to lose weight until after 6 months. I lost weight initially, but gained it back once I healed after the surgery. At this point, I've had 3 adjustment. The first 2 times, it felt restrictive for the first couple days, but then it sort of eased up. I was eating small meals, but I couldn't stop myself from grazing. Especially at night. I'd eat a little, then go back and eat a little more, and a little more. II lost 1lb. Now I've had my 3rd adjusment. It's been 3 days, and I can't really eat at all!! It took me an hour to eat an egg. Especially in the morn…

I was banded on 4/29, and today juice sounded wonderful to me. So I bought a 100% fruit juice (I think Everfresh), and had some (not even half), and while it tasted great, my stomach has just been kinda flip flopping. Is it because of the sugars in it? Is there a certain type of juice that is better for banders? TIA!

My dear hubby was banded on May 1st and is doing well except for occasionaly feeling like he needs to burp. All liquid so far, so i was wondering if it is still a side effect from the gas or if he is sipping to fast. He is definately drinking slowly, but i am wondering if he needs to slow down some more. He has had 2 4oz protein drinks and one can of soup has lasted him all day. Any help would be great.

Hi All, I had my op 5 days ago. The pain has all but gone which is nice and, basically, everything seems normal. Actually, I feel exactly the same as pre-band, but I'm eating much smaller meals and do feel full after. I did a liquid diet for about three days, but the doc said that if I was having no issues I could try mushy food. Day 4 I had a low-fat yoghurt for breakfast, soup and a banana for lunch and scrambled eggs on bread for dinner. Today I went for a healthy cereal with a drop of skimmed milk for breakfast, bread and a low-fat spread for lunch and enjoyed salmon with broccoli for dinner. None of this is causing me any problems at all. However, looking …

I am more determined than ever. You all just don't know how much you all are motivating me to do the right thing. I have read post thu out the board and i haven't seen one post that says... Wow my Dr. told me to take it easy and not to workout for about 2-weeks just do light walking, but nothing to stressful... But someone says the hell with that.. 1-week post op i went to the gym and worked out like 1 hr on the elliptical, i did 150-crunches, i did my arms, my thighs, inner and outer.. man i think i may have over did it.. but i feel great!!!! Well it's been almost a month since I had my band put in. Next week I have my first fill. I've actually gained back about 5 pounds this week because now that the swelling is down I'm eating more. I am making better choices for the most part and eating healthier foods (and smaller portions) but I'm finding it a bit frustrating to gain weight. I know realistically this is normal and until I have a fill it'll continue. I was so happy being not hungry the first couple of weeks after surgery (due to swelling) so suddenly basically being able to eat like normal isn't fun. The big reason I had the lapband does was so it would act as a "teaching aid" to tell me when I'm …

I had my surgery on March 18, 2008. I had an appointment for my first fill on Monday, May 5, 2008 nand my Doc. canceled it. I have a new appointment on May 31, 2008. The cancellation has nothing to do with me but with new office procedures. I am soooooo upset. I am getting so I am very hungry and was looking forward to getting my fill and continuing with my weight loss. When I called back to complain my doctors nurse gave me a lecture about the band being a tool and talked to me about diet, exercise and drinking my water. I told her that with out a fill the band is not a tool being used to its full capacity. On top of all of this, I was chosen by my Doc. to be in a…

Hi! I was on ebay posting some stuff and I thought what the heck let me type in lap Band and see what comes up. Not much unless you are in the market for saws and some other weird things. Anyway I did however see a few Medic Alert Brecelets just for Lap Bandsters. Do any of you wear one now after surgery? I am pre op waiting for approval. So I'm just curious. XOXO Barbie

I was banded on the 14th and I had my 2 week appointment today, they removed the bandages. The port bandage they left partially closed, still kinda tender there. I lost 16 poinds in 2 weeks, pre-op I lost 14 pounds, altogether 30lbs. I feel great, I can only eat or drink about 1 cup of food every 4-5 hours. No fill until another month. I eat or consume about 500- 700 calories, my Doc said that is where he wants me, unitil Iget the weight off. I thought I should at least eat 1000 calories, it is not healthy to me that low. How many calories is considered normal with the band? I am going to stick to what the doc said, but just for future reference.

I just got banded on the 29th of April, and I can't STAND this liquid doets anymore. I was supposed to be on clears until May 4th, but I have had some liquid yogurt, and a few crackers soaked in my broth, and some tomato Soup... I'm worried that I can't keep this up! I don't think it would be so hard but the past 2 months of being on a low cal diet, followed by another week of shakes only, and I'm at my limit! I don't think that I've slipped my band or anything, but what are the symptoms?

I'm pre-op; surgery is May 16. I've been on this board trying to learn about how people are dealing with being banded. Then I started reading several posts about how people are not losing weight, or they or only losing very little, or have plateaued. What is going on with that? I just do not understand how you can have the band, ear less, work out and still NOT lose weight. Is this a real problem with the band? I really need some advice. Thanks in advance.

I was banded yesterday. Boy was that first day rough. They refused to give me anything for the gas. And have had heart burn before, I could have swore, that that was what I was suffereing from. Anyway, surgery was at 12, got home today around 4:30pm. Tonight, I'm taking it easy and sip, sip, sipping on water. Tomorrow I will start on other liquids. YEA for me and others... D'
