hi all!

i had my surgery on Tuesday, everything went well, I was an outpatient and went home in the late afternoon & felt great!

i slept great, but woke up Wednesday hurting and have been pretty miserable ever since. I have a constant pain in my left shoulder (gas?) and everything hurts from my chest to my belly button, the port site especially. I know it's only been 2 days, but how long will this last?

Congrats on your surgery your weight loss journey begins. I am surprised they did it outpatient? Where did you have it done? I was at the medical center for three days and any time I needed pain med's they gave them to me. The left shoulder pain is normal because of the gas escaping out of your body. I to this day get the left shoulder pain when I eat something that starts hurting going down. It is weird how my left shoulder starts hurting but can last for about an hour and it feels like a join arthritis hurt. You need to take your pain med's because it takes a couple of weeks to start feeling back to yourself. You won't feel true restriction of the band until you start getting fills so don't be discouraged that when you start feeling better and eating again your food is going down just fine. After you start getting fills and get it tighter is when you really start feeling the restriction to eat and what not to eat. It is all a process of elimination because everyone is different. Some can eat red meat others cant. Some can eat chips others can't. So you just have to figure out what you can tolerate and keep your choices well. It took me a good 2 months before I felt my energy was back and not so tender in the stomach area. You just need to keep an eye on your insitions to make sure they heal up well. Good luck!!!!!!!!!! I just got a fill after my unfil and it is amazing the difference in eating. It will take awhile to learn what your stop button feels like when your body tells you to stop eating or you are going to be in a lot of pain. It is worth it and the band is the best thing I have ever done!!! I love my band because it is the tool that has made a huge difference in getting healthy and happy.:cool2:

I was banded on April 14 and in the hospital 26 hours. The pain is probably gas. Except 2-3 weeks before you feel better. Good luck.

I was banded monday 4/28 and am a little disappointed I'm not feeling better than I am. I'm not having much pain just really tired. I've had diarrhea since the morning after and I guess that's why I'm so run down. Mine was out patient too. Hang in there. It has to get better.

I had my surgery on the 29th also. I stayed overnight, and they repaired a hyatel hernia while they were putting on my band. I was initially in a lot of pain, but I walked a lot at the hospital and everything was okay. Yesterday when I finally got home I took my pain meds and slept till about 1030pm then couldn't fall back to sleep for a few hours. Today has been pretty bad with the gas pains, mostly in my back and chest. Sometimes I can feel it in my shoulder. I'm just hoping for the gas pains to go away soon. The incision pains are not bad at all and it's not hard for me to sleep on my right side, I'm assuming my port is on the left, cause that side is more uncomfortable. I really have not had any issues with hunger. But I do have to say watching tv every food commercial is killing me. I want everything and not cause I'm hungry just cause I want it, and can't have it. I guess all in all it hasn't been too bad, just want the gas pains to be gone.

It took me a week to bounce back after the surgery. I am 10 wks out & I have not had any complications. The port site will be sensitive & hurt at times for a while but I am so happy I did it! Hang in there...it goes by quick! Now I am watching the scale & trying to get back to eating the "atkins" way.

I too was badned on the 29th. The gas pains are getting much better, but the belly still hurts. I am trying to get these liquids in but it is tough - I feel really full and don't feel like drinking.

I was banded on the 30th, but had a filter put in on the 29th so I stayed in the hospital for 2 nights. My doctor did't sent me home with very much pain meds. and when I called for a refill I was told he didn't refill any. Has anyone else had this happen?

The "shoulder thang" can be from the gas inflation that is used so the surgeon can manipulate and see organs during surgery. It can also be because diaphram is irritated either during surgery or from band itself.

I am a week post op and am still having intermittent left side pain near shoulder. A heat pack helps and sometimes lying down on my left side.

Mix up you Protein drink and put in a Water bottle so you can take sips consistently. It really is important to get your 50-70 gr.

Even though the outside of our bodies don't look like MAJOR ... sometimes it is easy to forget that we have had an anesthetic (as close as we get to death and wake up) and a rearrangement of our gastrointestinal tract (even if it is minimal with the band). Be nice to yourself, rest, walk and take your pain meds....it will get better!

If you are concerned call your doc.

regards Bosh

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
