Not seen this one before, so not sure if anybody else has experienced this. I'm just over 1 week out from surgery. If I stick to the Optifast and custards I'm OK, but as soon as I make a liquid meal, like a thin Soup, my body heats up and goes into overdrive. I get really hot and clammy. Has anybody else had this? If so, does it settle down? Is this what it feels like to have a metabolism working properly??

Hi - Banded on 10/21 - everything has gone well. I am at the blended/pureed stage and falling the rules. Tonight I pureed beef broccoli and had about 3/4 cup pre puree. I feel like there is something stuck in my throat. I have had Water and nothing. It is not painful nor do I feel like vomiting. Is this band related? Any feedback would be so appreciated! Thanks!

Hey all. Had my first fill today at 5wks out. It went well. No pain at all. I am extremely tickleish so that was a major problem for me more than anything. I did feel a bit nauseaous for about 45mins after then fine. Doc put me on soft foods for today then tommorow back on the regular stuff. Still cannot lift weights at the gym I want to tone, tone, tone.. gotta try to keep ahead of my body. I have lost approx 20-23lbs since 09/30 feeling good. My questions are : the last 2 days I have been so incrediably tired. I doubt it is related to the anethseisa. I came home 2 days in a row from work and just passed out. I could of slept from 4pm thru the next morning if I let…

I recently typed a thread about no will power coming with the band. I must be confused b/c I received a reply from someone who stated that due to lack of will power and other reasons she had hers removed. I thought this site was about support. I felt she was saying I was misinformed and should have mine out too b/c I am having alittle adjustment problem. I complain on this site b/c I thought I might receive ideas for problems or maybe just realize that there are others out there that are in the same position I am in. I don't won't someone to say that I need to have mine removed b/c I can't handle the changes. Those of you who don't even have the lapband need to sta…

I knew that if I had will power that I wouldn't need a lap band. However, my band came with no will power and my loving husband eats ANYTHING in front in me. Sweet huh? I would love to eat only 2 -6 ozs and 3 meals a day but I can't. I am trying and havn't lost a pound since my preop diet. Going for a therapist in couple a days. Any advice to curve hunger pains. Beating up husband sounded real good but he makes more than I do and I don't need anymore problems. hehehe!

I'm halfway through week three of my post-op. I am excited to start solids next week, but also very nervous. Where do I begin?? I'm dying for some pizza, but I want to start with foods that don't have much chance of getting stuck. What are some good foods to start with? The past few days I've noticed that I've been more hungry. I think that the swelling is finally going down because I wasn't really hungry until now. I'm hoping I can stick to the plan until my first fill. I miss the feeling of restriction :smile2:

I was wondering if any of you more experienced bandsters might be able to offer a solution....... I am 5 weeks post-op and I have for about a week been having the most terrible gas pains at night. They are so terrible they are waking me up at night and are causing me to loose several hours of sleep at night. I am using Gas-X strips and walking when they wake me but since this is really putting a damper on my joy of being banded I thought I'd ask if any of you have experienced this and how you delt with it. My doctors office didn't have any advice other than what I'm doing so I thought I'd ask the people who might have first hand knowledge. I am miserable!:b…

Is anyone else having the problem is dealing with the "head" hunger and/or eating when bored? I know these were both problems for me before I had surgery, but I feel like they are worse now. Does anyone have any strategies for not eating when you're bored or trying to beat out the "head" hunger? I think that consuming these extra calories when I don't need them has something to do with not being able to lose the weight that I want to.

Hi - I typed a nice post and was eaten up...UGHH! Oh well - this is brief of what I wrote! Was banded on Tuesday, 10/21. Feeling much better today. Have a few questions: - I have this strange feeling when I swallow that there is a huge lump in my throat - what is it? I was on Clear liquids till today and have only had a Pure Protein shake (which I didn't finish) and a SF pudding...so don't think I over did it. - How do you know when your "full"? I only sip until I feel satisfied but as I mentioned it was only propel, broth until today. - I kinda feel hungry and my stomach growls....did any of you feel this? - How much did you drink post-op? TIA - an…

I had surgery on Oct. 27th and this is my first post! I have run into several of the same issues as others (i.e. pain in my chest, soreness around the port, etc.) But I am also having pain in my left side along my lower rib cage. It's about 6 inches away from the port and gets worse as the day goes on... has anybody else run into this? Also, anything fills me up - including liquids. I had some Soup for lunch and I feel like I'm going to pop! I guess I need to learn when to stop??? Thanks, everybody!

How much of a protein smoothie should I have a few days after surgery? They are not too thick, but I need to drink enough protein without stretching the pouch??? One smoothie is 100 calsa and 25grms of protein. We need at least 60. Not sure if I should brake it in sections but them I might not get enough in a day...less than 800cals and not enough protein...:help:

I am just curious if any of you have gone through the banding process without a key support person? It is very likely that I will have to do this all on my own. There is no one here to drive me to the hospital or home. I am planning surgery for midweek so that the baby can go to daycare next door and my oldest will be in school. This will give me a couple days to recoop before having them both all day over the weekend. My main concern is how long I will have to stay post surgery before I can drive home. I've had 3 other laparoscopic surgeries for other issues and could get by the day after surgery with Motrin. However, after going through the Emmi presentation,…

I have surgery wednesday (yay!). Anyway, I don't know what to buy at the grocery store. Can anyone write down a laundry list of the stuff they bought in preperation? My lap band workbook from the doctor is really general. I am on liquids for two weeks post op. So should I make a lot Protein shakes? I am just confused and not sure what to do. Thanks in advance!

 Hi yall i hope you are all doing well. I have mentioned this before but i used to be frustrated with my band bc i thought i wasnt restricted enough at like 7.5. well all of a sudden i am getting restriction. could be better but i dont want to push it yet so i cant eat as much but i still manage to eat untill i pop or slime. just now i ate most of a medium chicken chili Soup from Hale and Hearty (off the hook btw) and most (basically all) of a 99 cents bag (1.78 ounce i think) lays chips (an individual bag not the big one). So im stuffed to the gills. i cant seem to go below 242 pounds even though i go to the gym (i wonder why)...i just needed to vent …

I was banded on 10/16/08, and am really suffering in bandster hell -- I want to eat, but am trying REALLY hard not to go off my plan. I was just andvanced to mushies yesterday, so I"m a little nervous. But! Today, I weighed myself: I'm down over 20lbs! This is amazing to me after not being able to lose and gain more than 5lbs for years. Thanks for letting me have my excited rant!

I was banded 10/17 and am feeling (and looking) pretty well healed except for the port area... It aches quite a bit and I feel a slight pull when I move or lean in that direction. I haven't seen anyone mention lingering aches at the port site, so wanted to hear if anyone is experiencing that as well??? Thanks!

In the middle of the night, I somehow rolled over to my stomach. I woke up with this really sharp pain around my port. Now, I am not sure if I had been sleeping on my stomach for a long time or if I had just rolled over, but I woke up yelling, turned over and slept propped up on pillows on my back for the rest of the night. It has been just over a month since I have had my surgery. In the beginning I had the regular soreness, but then slowly started being able to sleep on both sides. Even prior to my sharp port pain last night, I would wake up on my stomach with more of like a muscular pain, or bruise type feeling. Does anyone still get pain where their port is. Ca…

Has anyone that hasn't lost like they thought they should, found that a medication they were on was responsible? I know some medications cause weight gain, appetite changes, etc. I take Paxil and oral birth control and am wondering if either of these or possibly both are partly to blame for my EXTREMELY slow weight loss (banded 18 mos and down 15 pounds!!!!)

Has anyone else had the experience where their port incision seems to be taking a long time to heal? Mine formed a big scab and it was painful. The first scab came away from the skin and it looked like it was infected so I went in and they said it was fine. The second scab was just as painful and it came off last week and a new scab formed. I did yard work this weekend and it came away from the skin again. It just seems like it is never going to heal. I am 4 weeks post-op and all other incisions are just red marks. It also seems that the top of my stomach seems to still be swollen??? Just wondering if this is normal. I have to go in for my first fill Nov. 20th an…

I tought it would be nice to make a list of at least 10 things that we will not or do not miss about being overweight. Hopefully many more will go along with me on this. Below are things I surely WILL NOT miss about being overweight!! 1. Looking the other way when I pass by a full length mirror. 2. While buying clothes having to go to the plus size clothes and the clothes being ugly. *why don't they make trendy cloths for us overweight women anyways?* 3. Having to make sure my shirts are long enough to cover my oversized stomach. 4. Looking at pictures of myself from my thin days wondering how I could let my weight get so out of control 5. Not feeling co…

SO... I had my first fill yesterday, and was given 2cc's which I thought sounded like quite a lot. We had to drive 2 & 1/2 hrs from home for the fill and there is no fluro. The gal administering it had me drink some water and that felt OK. I tried some pudding that I had taken along right afterwards to see how it felt and I was fine with that so we went for lunch. I had some soup and milk and felt pretty good. By now it was about 2PM. We got back home by about 7PM, but by then I was really hungry. I had a small bite of chicken. Didn't chew it properly obviously, because, you guessed it - experienced my first PB and sliming incident. But you …

Hi All, Are there reasons other than band slipping that you suddenly can't keep anything down? Last trip to the doc was in July. Everything has been great up until a few days ago. Not only do I have trouble keeping food down after the third bite, but I have a hard time swallowing my small pills in the morning. I will call the doc tomorrow, but any info is appreciated... Thanks!!!

Hi. I am nearly 2 weeks post op. I have been having intermittent pain in a very specific area around my left kidney. Pressing this area also causes discomfort. I do not see any bruising or abrasions. Does anyone know what this pain might be. It was pretty bad the first few days, went away for a while, and is now back again. I don't know what a "bruised kidney" feels like but this is kind of what I think it is??? Can this be???

I had a hard time at first accepting my band. But as of now I feel great. Like I didnt even ahve surgery. Heres the thing though. I can eat whatever I want....and portion size is bigger than should be. I had my first fill one week ago...and I can eat 'normal'. I dont want to wait until the end of the month to get another fill. I want that 'full' feeling and I sure as hell dont get that now. I was banded on Sept 22 and have lost 11 lbs. I did lose 20 but once I was able to eat more ..I did and gained back 9. I also wonder if I should go back on my Metformin for my PCOS. They had me go off of it two weeks before surgery. Soooooo guess IM going to call …

Hey ya'll ~ I was banded on Thurs (10/31). Feeling about 90% except for the occasional gas pain in my right shoulder  It's agonizing!! I definitely feel restricted, but am minding my P's & Q's. I'm not one to throw up and personally would rather gnaw off my own foot, so I'm careful and cautious. However - now that I'm back to mushies - I'm wondering - why can't I have a boiled or deviled egg? Why can't I lick a spoon with Peanut Butter? Why aren't veggies on my "ok to eat" list if they are cooked very "mushy"? I'm not talking about mean or bread or anything like that, but I'm finding myself craving a boiled egg - which I've never done, but that tells me I'…

Is anyone else having trouble "seeing" what others are seeing? I haven't lost a lot of weight but it is enough for people to comment. My daughter informed me that my gilly gilly gobber is disappearing. I am rather well endowed in the "upper frontal" category but when I looked down my belly always stuck out past my chest area. Now I can't see my belly. My niece informed me that my butt does not have a shelf anymore. Children can be so brutally honest. With all this being said, I still don't really see the weight loss when I look in a full length mirror. To me, I still look the same. Do you think it is just a mental thing. Being fat for so long that it will take t…

I was banded on 09-08-08. I am hungry more than I think I should be or expected. I can eat anything and average portions, not really restricted but no fill yet, that is next week. Now I am worried the band has slipped, or stretched, all the things that make you panic. A guy I work with had it done several years ago and almost every day at lunch he gets up to vomit something. He also says he and his wife share things when they go out to eat, but I noticed he is put some weight on lately. Is that normal? Also noticed gas, is that normal??

So, on the 18th of this month will be 3 months since I had my band put in. I have now lost 23 pounds ( not as good as most people). Only having lost 23 pounds, I am still glad I had this done. I have a couple before pictures and was just wondering, how often have all of you taken picutes of yourself just to compare with the before. I have been thinking of having my mom do a few aftershots just to see how far I have come and if I look any different. Problem is, I am really scared to have them taken. I'm worried that if I don't see a big change, I will get discouraged (however you spell it) and become depressed. Any advice on this subject?

Hello, I was banded on 10/29/2008 and I am miserable from the gas. I feel like a small child is sitting on my belly! My bowel sounds are sooooo loud I doubt I could go anywhere and someone not comment on them LOL. I have tried gas-x strips. I have diarrhea horrible which gives me some relief. Every once in a while I feel a huge air bubble which makes me feel like I have to burp...but I can't advance it out to burp. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do? When will this gas get out???? I am walking around the house over and over. I need to go to a meeting tonight at my daughter's school but I am afraid because of the diarrhea and growling of my stomach....my …

Hi all! I was banded on 10/16. Things went well according to the doctor, but I can not get rid of the gas pain. I even spent an extra night in the hospital because of it. I am taking 4 "gas-x" pills a day to little or no help. My left shoulder feels like it was surgecially removed and sown back on. The worst part is the pain travels to my left ear and it feels like it will explode. Any advice? I also feel like I have been starving since a week after the surgery. I hate sugar free Jello so my diet is water/protein drink/and broth. Is it normal to feel like you are starving? Thanks All- Palangi

I was banded about 3 weeks ago. Obviously I was tired from the surgery, but now I am pain free, but I am really tired all of the time. Is this normal? I thought I'd have more energy by now. I'm off of my blood pressure meds so I thought this would help. Am I not eating enough? I'm at about 700-800 calories a day. I'm not too concerned about it at this point as I'm still in the healing phase, but I really want to get back to being as active as I was before the surgery, but being tired a lot makes that hard.

I am hoping for some eating advice. I am required to travel extensively for my job. Can anyone tell me what I should eat when I am on the road and eating 3 meals a day from a restaurant? I want to be prepared to eat the right amount of calories and Protein while traveling so if anyone can offer some restaurant tips or food that travels well I would greatly appreciate it. I can be gone as long as a week at a time and fly so am limited what I can carry. Thanks. Shawn
