December Delights 2009

Recommended Posts

I don't think I'll be a three meals a day gal either. I eat about 3 meals and two small Protein Snacks. I'm getting bet. 800-1000 calories a day and my doctor's fine w/ that. As long as I'm not eating over 4 oz of solids at a meal, he's fine with it. I had my first fill last week and it very well. One minute he's telling me to lay down and the next he's already feeling my port and injecting me. No poking around...thank goodness. However, I must say that my restriction lasted all of about 24 hours...lol. Not complaining though, I'm still losing and looking forward to my next fill.

Best to everyone on this journey

Lauren

My first fill only lasted about 12 hours. Am looking forward to the next one...

NSV Alert:

I went from size 24 jeans to size 20! I went shopping yesterday for some jeans and new underwear. I was actually wearing my old 26s that were literally falling off me as my 24s were still in the dryer (they didn't get dried in time before leaving). I went to Dress Barn, pulled a size 22, thinking that that is what I'd fit into. They were too big!

So I had my friend get me a size 20 and they fit! I'm so stoked! I bought two pair, as I just couldn't pass up the ones with the rhinestones down the outside seams and on the back pockets. I posted a picture of them on my blog.

That is totally FABULOUS! Congratulations! I haven't been shopping yet, but it is getting harder to keep my pants up, so the time will be coming soon. Luckily, I did have several sizes in my own closet to choose from. I kind of want to wait until I absolutely can't wear my clothes anymore, because it will be expensive to replace everything as we continue to go down. But, oh what fun it will be!

I had to replace a pair of dress pants already as the pair I had fell down as I was walking into my apartment. Literally had a wardrobe malfunction! I felt them going, then they were around my ankles!!!! My jeans are next, they are from Lane Bryant and a size 20, but I can pull them on and off without unbuttoning them! I wore them to work the other night and they were sliding fast!! I found a big good will store near me that is in a very nice neighborhood, aka wealthy neighborhood....I found a pair of nine west dress pants in size 18 for $3.99, and in phenomenal shape!! I plan to buy resale clothes until I'm down all the way because I truly can't afford to keep replacing my clothes temporarily.

Everyone's clothes are falling off them - that's awesome! I have a pair of pants that I used to wear regularly that I have to fold the waistband over to keep them up. I can't wait to get rid of my bigger sizes.

Haven't posted on here in a long time! Had surgery 12/16 and doing pretty good. Just got back to the gym today (due to other medical problems not band related). I am still losing--but I too have ZERO restriction. Had my first fill on Fri..and again I too had tons of poking and proding that made me swell up so they only put in 1cc :). Needless to say it didn't do anything lol. Counting down the days now until my Feb. fill! I am PRAYING to be in ONEDERLAND for my May vacation. It's possible and not too big of a stretch--but I am trying to remember not to beat myself up if it doesn't happen. I know once I actually get some restriction--that I will end up making myself sick! It is so easy to revert back to eating too fast or too much right now with no restriction. Seems everyone is doing AWESOME

It is nice to hear everyone is doing so well. Tina, my status hasn't changed. I have no restriction. I haven't gained any so that's a good thing. My next fill is Feb. 8th. Hope I get some restriction with that one!!!

:( I got my second fill today. I wasn't feeling restriction, so I was able to get an appointment and go back in. I had another 3cc's added, bringing my total to 6cc's in a 14cc band.

This time I got to do a barium swallow to check the band and make sure I wasn't too tight. Everything looked ok. So...

liquids tonight, Mushies tomorrow, then I'll see how much restriction I have now.

I had to go in to see my surgeon today because I was having a new pain where my port is. He said everything is fine and he gave me an unexpected 2nd fill. Yeah. I lost some of the last fill, so now at a total of 2.8 ccs. Still a way to go, but I am hoping this one will make a difference.

Hey everyone,

I had my 2nd fill today. Really don't know if I have any restriction since I'm doing liquids for a couple of days but I certainly don't feel like I have any. Did want to say the dr did my 2nd fill today and like before... one tiny shot of numbing medication and 15 seconds later he put the big needle in the port 1st try and it was a breeze. I'm up to 6 ccs now and not sure I have any restriction yet. I will keep you updated. I'm only down 9 pounds since surgery.

Hi Curious, You and I are both lucky with our fills - I did not even have a numbing shot and all I felt was a little prick and it was over and done.

I am having such a hard time moving the lbs since surgery. I walk on the treadmill every day for about 40 mins and I log everything I eat, so I know my calorie count, but the scales remain the same - I'm just 12 lbs down.

My first fill was also 3 ccs, I hope my next one will be the same. Let us know if you feel the restriction once you are back on regular foods.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
