December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

I had my wisdom teeth surgically removed on Wednesday and I am still feeling like crap. I maybe get a Protein Shake and a bowl of Soup down a day. I have lost nearly 7 pounds in 4 days. This was not what I had in mind when I wanted to lose weight.

My band surgery was a piece of cake, this is killing me.

Since this was the PREOP thread can we close it and use the Delights thread?

It seems some folks are getting confused with the two.

I will find out.

I wonder how they decide how many incisions to do. Does anyone know that?

I only have 2 incisions that I can see. I really have 3 incisions per my doctor..they call this one incision surgery..they make one incision at your belly button..and uses the other 2 incisions to use intruments and carmeras to work from. they adv me these incisions are less painful and the healing process is quicker..enjoy..because I am..

What are the "stats" for Atkins? What is the cost? How many gr of sugar, carbs, and Protein? I am a diabetic so I have to be careful with premixed drinks. Glad you found something that works for you. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Pam,

My Doctor really recommends Atkins shakes for per-op, post-op and to continue with one for Breakfast, forever after banding. They taste pretty good. I too buy them at Walmart, they come in a 4-pack and the cost is about $5 (price as of today). Each carton is 11 oz. I can only drink half a carton at a time, but I'm just 6 days banded. Here are the stats: -

Dark Choc. Royale shake

Serving size 11 oz

cals. 160

total fat 9g

cholesterol 5mg

sodium 230mg

potassium 530mg

carbs 5g

Fiber 4g

sugar 1g

protein 15g

plus a whole lot of your daily needs for Vitamins and minerals.

I don't know if this will work for you, but I hope the info helps.

Viv

I had my lap band done 12/23. My surgeon asked me to lose 5 lbs from 12/15-12/22 (I lost 11, low carb, small portions). Since surgery, I have lost another 12 lbs. Seems to just be melting off. Glad the SEVERE diarrhea stopped (started when I went to full liquids and lasted 3 days). Now that I'm on mushies, fairly easy. Use a lot of yogurt and baby food and wearing out my blender.

 Syntrax Nectar Cappuccino Protein Powder rocks. 23 g Protein per scoop, 0 carbs, 0 sugar. Yummy. Have to mix it with cold Water or milk before adding to hot coffee though or it will lump up on you.

So, the weight lose is going good, and not that I'm thinking for the next two months, but I'm curious about the fact its said no drinking for six months. I'm curious what the reason behind it is, or is it just because of the empty calories &/or sugar depending on what you drink. Any info pls

thanks

I'm curious about the drinking too. My 30th is next month and I don't plan on getting drunk, but I would like to be able to have a few.

Hi and I hope all my fellow December Bandsters are doing well. I am hoping that some of you can give me some advice or let me know your experiences. I have been feeling nauseous since I woke up this morning (nope I'm not pregnant...lol) and it is getting worse as the evening goes on. I have been suffering with gas and diarrhea since before my surgery, but I'm drinking a lot, so I don't think I'm dehydrated. Is this something that is considered normal or should I be worried? I have my first post op appointment on the 6th.

My doctor told me if I was vomiting or had diarreah to call him ASAP. I think you should call him first thing tomorrow. I wish you good health!

PS my follow-up is on the 6th too.

Hey! I was banded on the 28th as well. Stopped taking my pain meds a few days ago. I also still have some pains but I had a hiatal hernia and it seems that the occasional sporadic aching is either near the largest incision or where my hernia was. I really think it just depends on the person. I took gas-x faithfully for the first 5 days and if I was a little late on a dose -OMG! I could tell! The worst experience I've had was this HORRID headache the night of 12/31! My blood pressure was sporadic and this headache started early that afternoon and went well into the late part of New Year's. I'm not sure if it was from my BP or if my BP was going up as a reaction. I hear of the 'post-op' headache on here often. As far as it feeling funny... I have friends who've had the lap-band ahead of me and one told me it was three months before her 'port area' wasn't sensitive. Another told me that it was over a month before her stomach didn't ache when she had a bm. lol... I guess we are all different huh? Did you get staples in your incisions? I did and have an appt tomorrow (well... today) to have them removed.

12/28...my incisions feel pretty good. my stomach skin still feels loose, when i turn over. i am thrilled to be able to sleep on my side, though.

my port is above my belly button, and feels like a piece of plastic stuck in my belly...hmmm.

does someone have a link to the other thread? i couldn't find it, by am a techno failure!

Try this http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f22466/december-delights-2009-a-106299/index23.html#post1388171 or search December Delights 2009

On the drinking thing my lap-band book says that "alcohol has a high number of calories and breaks down Vitamins but an occasional glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage is not considered harmful to weight loss".

I would think a beer would be like a coke with the carbonation and all but they do sell some low carb lite beer.

Good going all!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
