I got home yesterday and that is when my gas pains in the chest, shoulder and arm started. Everytime I eat the pain gets worse. I'm waiting for a big burp to get this out of me. I'm also having a hard time getting in 64 oz. of Fluid because of this, but am trying hard.

My incision pains are minimal thankfully. My nurses and myself were amazed that I only had two incisions. Yeah! I hope everyone is recovering well.

I can't believe you only have 2 incisions, I have FIVE!!! I'm so jealous. Next summer you'll be a bikini model and I'll be all scarred up...Must go pout now....

I too had the pressure and felt the need to burp...eventually did burp and burp and burp and OHHH felt so much better, are you taking gas-x? It saved my life! Do your best to get the fluids in, it will make your entire recovery easier.:)

Anybody else have headaches after surgery? Surgery was on Monday (28th) and I've had the worst headache all evening! It feels like a slept too long/sinus/tension headache! *ugh* Could it be the Lortab?

Hi everyone! I had my surgery last night and I'm officially a bandster *yay*

Right now I'm having some serious chest pains (mostly when I take deep breaths) and can't sleep for more than 45min, but I'm hoping this is normal (?). Oh and my arm muscles ache really bad - did anyone else experience this?

Bamablondie1: I've a headache since I came out of surgery and I suspect it's because of the meds and the fact that I smoked and was drinking caffeine the night before surgery. I think it's a w/d headache. Maybe your doctor can all you in a diff pain killer.

Anyhoo, I wish you all a speedy recovery and the best New Year ever

I didn't, but I've heard of people getting anestesia headaches. My neck was real sore for the first day and the nurses told me it's because of the way they have to bend my neck all the way back to get the trache tube in. I'm suprised I didn't get a headache since I have such a sensitive neck!

Hope it goes away soon.

Yes, it is normal. I was concerned too since I had left chest, shoulder, arm and neck tightness and pressure. The dr. said it was in fact gas pain. It soon changed to occasional little painful gas bubbles going up thru my chest and exploding into my shoulder. Man do they hurt! Not sure how long this will last, but I'm hoping they end soon. Movement is supposed to help, but it hasn't helped me yet.

We were banded the same day - I can't start mushies for another week. So jealous (but happy for you ), I did call my doctor's office today to make sure and they confirmed it! Oh well, I am doing okay, not too much hunger, I bought some Carnations instant Breakfast and it is really good, I put all natural Peanut Butter in it with soy milk and extra Protein Powder. Anyway I hope it goes well for you!

I know it was tough for me to handle the liquids!! The mushies are going well, except now I feel like I can eat and I'm suppossed to chew my food to applesauce consistency, but...it's already there!!! So I found it's really hard to take my time. I also went back to work full time this week, and that was tough. I thought all my gas pains went away, but I can feel it in my left flank/shoulder/neck. I walk daily try to drink all my liquids and I've been taking gas ex. It gets better every day!! My follow up shows I'm healing well...all 6 incisions! I go back Feb 5 for my first fill. Good luck!!

For your headaches, you might want to try liquid tylenol. My instructions were to use it when I had pain (such as headache) that didn't warrant use of the stronger pain meds or low grade fever.

I'm pretty fortunate that I didn't have any headaches, but I did have plenty of other aches! lol Back, neck, arms, shoulder, tummy. But, eventually, it all went away.

My only issue now is that one of my incisions is red. The nurse thinks it might be the internal stitches aren't dissolving like they should, but rather trying to make their way out. She's going to talk with my surgeon, who is in surgery today, to see if I should take some additional antibiotics. I'm putting neosporin on it in the meantime to help.

I wonder how they decide how many incisions to do. Does anyone know that?

First day home from the hospital, and I am so sore! Ouch! Started sipping liquids this morning. Going to take Vitamins and meds in a few. How long does the pain last?

I was banded on Tuesday and was able to come home yesterday. I too would love to know how long the pain lasts. Most of my pain is on my left side by my port, I keep trying to walk and stretch but it hurts really bad. Hopefully it will pass soon.........take care!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
