December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

I am getting soooo excited!!!!!!!!!! I'm also so glad that my doctor did not have me do a pre-op diet because with the holidays, I don't know what I would have done. All I have to do is do Clear Liquids the day before. If any of the veteran bandsters are lurking on here, do you have any advice for us that are getting banded this week? I'm going Tuesday to the store to stock up on my clear liquids. I'm also trying to figure out what I am going to do for Protein Shakes during my clear liquid stage. Help?

The best Protein shakes and drinks in my opinion are Isopure and Oh Yeah!. You can get both at GNC. I signed up for an email account at GNC, and they sent me an email for 15% off my first purchase. I stocked up on my favorite shakes and drinks. Good Luck with your surgery!

I use the injury. I have the vanilla (which I mix with skim milk), the strawberry sorbet (which I mix with either Water or lemon juice), and the chicken Soup. I send away for the samples first. The chicken soup is a little salty to my taste. I also like the Chike flavors but they cost significantly more.

Hi Delightful people,

I'll will be joining the bandster's tomorrow (Dec 28th)! I'll be at the hospital at 5:30.

I am very lucky, only one day (today) of clear liquids pre-op and it's going fine. I don't feel too nervous, more concerned about doing the right things after surgery, but it is all a learning experience.

Thanks to everyone for all the info I have gathered from your post.

Good wishes to all who are squeezing their surgery into the last few days of December - to be a Delight!

Best Wishes to both of you!!! You will be fine. You may want to pack GasX strips. They really helped me. I asked for one as soon as I saw my hubby and did not have that bad of gas pains. I had some. Expect some in your shoulder or neck. It's a sharp pain. Many suffer from this right after this surgery. Anyway, I will pray for both of you tomorrow and until you post that your home recovering. Let us know!!!:thumbup:

I purchased a Protein whey unflavored powder today at GNC. One scoop is 110 cal and has 21 gm of Protein. I added some to my daily lunch of my regular Protein Drink. You can add it to chicken broth or creamy Soups. It is wonderful!!!

Thank you soooo much for your good wishes and prayers.

I have my Gas-X strips packed, along with my lip balm. I did have laposcopic (sp) surgery years ago and remember the shoulder pain, but it was bearable. Thanks for the advise about taking a strip soon after surgery.

5:30 is time I need to be at the hospital, Doctor starts operating at 8:00, but I have the feeling there will be others who are also told to be at the hospital at the same time. I asked the doctor's office where I was on the list, but they would not say, so you may be in and out before me. Hope all goes very well for you.

HI Bellyfatgone!

I hear you about the clear liquid diet! I am grumpy, weak and just do not feel myself. I have not packed my bag yet. I am not sure if I am going to bring PJs, since they have gowns at the hospital. Good Luck tomorrow! I will be home on Tuesday. They are having me spend the night in the hospital.

Lisa

Lisa,

Good luck to you too. I always get cold in the hospital so that's why I'm bringing mine (and so my rear end doesn't hang out when I go to the bathroom! hehe).

I'm looking forward to spending the night...it's like a glamorized hotel with all those attending to my every need. It will be nice having someone take care of me for a night. Even though I know they will be waking me up often to get vitals.

Anyway, good luck and we'll have to keep each other updated.

Why is ibuprofen a no no. I take Volteran and it has iduprofen in it or something like that. My doc said it was okay to take. Just curious.

My doctor told me no more ibprofen from 2 weeks before surgery to forever. He said that it can cause ulcers around the band. I haven't done any personal research on this, I just stopped taking it.

I bought Isopure clear Fruit Drinks at GNC, they are carb adn sugar free and offer 40 g Protein in 20 oz. They are ok...rather sweet, so I tend to dilute with Water. I also found six packs of Isopure at CVS which are 8 oz bottles, that offer 15 g of protein. Be Cautious!! The isopure I bought I bought at CVS is NOTcarb/sugar free!!! I didn't check this and I got hit. Each bottle contains 33 ga carb!!! I was shocked!! They are not Natures Best. So becareful, because I got hit by not paying attention and my blood sugar was elevated. I also bought the Unjury chicken Soup and unflavored. The unflavored mixed well in Tomato Soup and the chicken soup flaver I mixed in chicken broth to add my protein. I can't wait to hit the pureed foods!!! Any suggestion with that????

Hi all,

My surgery date is Dec 31st. Happy New Year to me! Been on the liquid diet for the last 11 days. Optifast. I would not recommend going through the holidays on just shakes. I had a few breakdowns but managed not to vary from the plan at all. Chewing lots of gum and decided myself that I could have a bit of celery in my faux broth.< /span>

You all have a lot of great advice. I'm looking forward to joining you on this journey.

You should bring a neck pillow, like the traveling ones? My neck was so greatful I did so it didnt get stiff when resting sitting up.

I would suggest bringing pajama pants, or sweats. The morning after the surgery after my swallow study, I showered and put on my own clothes and slippers, that way while I walked around the halls I was comfy!! I would also suggest an ipod. It was helpful to sit in the recliner with my ipod and my book, when there was nothing on tv. Good Luck!!!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
