December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

I was banded monday and stopped taking pain meds yesterday. I've also been trying to walk often and keep up with the normal household chores in hopes to get rid of the gas pains.

I am officially banded as of yesterday  and came home from the hospital today. Everything went smooth according to the surgeon but I am quiet sore around the cuts, of which there are 5. The most pain is on the left side where the port is.

I haven't had much of an appetite yet so am trying to drink. I'm supposed to be on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and then pureed mushies for 2 weeks.

I didn't ask about when the first fill will be but I go back to the Dr. in two weeks and will ask then. From what everyone is saying you are able to eat quiet a bit until that fill. Hopefully there will be no weight gain.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Well the headaches are diminishing - finally. Not totally gone but not splitting my head open either. When they were really bad last night, it was making my blood pressure go up sporadically (or bp causing headache?). SO I called the 'on-call' and the dr was like... 'well... that's something that you just need to call your primary about when the sun comes up.' ummmm most primary dr's are closed until Monday (due to holidays) and if my blood pressure is 152/119 with a splitting headache... I think most ppl would call the on-call as directed on the check-0ut material. Grrrrr

The comment about the tylenol - Can we take liquid tylenol with liquid lortab??? Regarding the red incisions, my two larger incisions look really red and puffy around them. Anybody else? Yes yes yes... I realize that they are only ohhhh 3 1/2 days old but it's my job to obsess! ya know! lol

Ocra - I, too, made it through to the other side. The biggest problem I seem to be having (besides getting up and down due to sore stomach muscles) is a growling tummy! Feel's like "I'm hungry" pains, and goes away when I drink something, but I promptly burp after drinking, so that makes me think it's gas in my stomach. I don't feel like I could eat anything more than the Soup stock I'm drinking, but my tummy says FEED ME all day long!:)

I know my Dr said that there was very little solution in the band right now and a person could almost eat normal. However he said time was needed to heal around the band(that could take a month) and he recommends the liquid for 2 weeks and pureed for 2 weeks. I pureed some Campbell's healthy select vegetable soup today and had no trouble eating 1/2 cup of that. It was thick but stayed down and also tasted OK. I'm also doing my Protein Shake which gives me a good meal.

I'm drinking Atkins Milk chocolate Delight - It's premixed and isn't that bad - I just chug it. LOL

I got it at Walmart in the pharmacy area

What are the "stats" for Atkins? What is the cost? How many gr of sugar, carbs, and Protein? I am a diabetic so I have to be careful with premixed drinks. :) Glad you found something that works for you. Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since this was the PREOP thread can we close it and use the Delights thread?

It seems some folks are getting confused with the two.

My appologies, Tina. I am new to the site and don't really know how to navigate yet.

I asked my doctor the same types of questions and more when I saw him for the first time since my surgery. He said this is TYPICAL ... in fact, most people either stay the same or gain a little after the surgery but before the first fill. He reassured me that I'm doing nothing wrong, and that in a couple of weeks the real journey will begin. I'm not stressing over it anymore, and am on my way to my Weight Watcher meeting this morning same as any other Saturday. It is nice to know most of us are going through the same hunger!

I went into surgery on Tues down 19 lbs, came home on Wed and had gained 9 of it back :smile2: My doctor said this is normal esp since they had to increase my IV overnight because my blood pressure decreased. I am happy to report I weighed in this morning and am back at the weight I was the morning of surgery ~ down 19  So, I agree, just hang in there and keep doing what your doing it will pay off! Good luck!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
