I haven't cheated. I am on the last day of my pre-op diet (starvation diet more like!) and get banded tomorrow

Some evenings I have been craving food like a mad-woman, but definitely, positively have not cheated!!

Good luck to all of you on the pre-op...

I was allowed 3 shakes and one small meal at night.. I substituted pureed Soup of lesser values for the shakes a few times, probably ate a little more then I should at the small meal, and ate salad with very little EVOO on it on the days I exercised.. I had 14 cal popsicles and raw veggies for snacks.. I survived with only two hypoglycemic meltdowns so I think I did well..Tomorrow it is 5 straight shakes and 5 bottles of water.. I'm ready for 3/3 surgery and have lost 14 lbs,, doc okay'd me at 10 lbs lost.

I think I'm revising some old posts. Hi everyone, this is my first post. My name is Robbyn. My surgery date is 3/11/09.

I last met with my doctor on 2/13/09. He asked me to start the pre op 2 weeks prior to my surgery, but he also told me I could start earlier if I wished.

My pre op is 2 Isopure drinks a day in addition to at least 40 calories (which is 2 Calcium chews).

My doctor told me if I had 80 grams of Protein a day, I could eat as little as 400 calories a day.

However, my doctor also said that a low fat/low carb diet would be fine.

I did go off program. 400 calories a day was pretty tough especially since he said 400 to 800...

800 was the max.

I've logged every bite, lick and taste and I ended up cutting over 5 days early. However, since cutting over, I've gone off program by 100 to 300 calories a couple of times.

I am traveling to Dallas for my best friends wedding in a few days. I've already asked her to stock her fridge with ISOPURE for me when I land so I don't have to worry about it too much.

I've lost close to 20 lbs already. My goal is to lose another 5 in Dallas.

Tomjerry,,,

3 wks,, ouch.. 2 has been rough.. Its not so much the hunger, but wanting to chew something. My hubby and kids are home due to the snowstorm and I asked him if he would make dinner at lunch so that I didn't have to smell it,, he forgot of course and said I could have a piece of the meat to chew on, but would have to spit it out!! It reminded me of the Sally Fields movie I saw where she had cancer and wanted to eat with her family, so she chewed the food then spit it in a napkin!!!

Try the EAS Advant Edge choc fudge,, 17 g Protein and totally tolerable cold.. only 4 carbs 110 calories. I got a case at Sams and Bjs for 24.99. I have the vanilla in the powder too, and its good with a little cinnamon or other cal free flavoring. (like almond)

16 hours to go for me...

My blood sugar got down to 59 so I ate two small oranges to get it back up.... I could have had orange juice but none was in the house and could not drive to get some.... So yes I cheated 5 days before the scheduled surgery. I still lost 20lbs while on the liquid diet so I hope my liver is in good shape.....

I am 8 days post-op, and i cheated 2 days b4 surgery. I am having more trouble with the post-op liquids because I have been home.....watching tv and most of the comercials are about food. I am hungry and want to eat but shouldn't. so I haven't but I don't know if I will make another week of full liquids.

Good luck to you all with your pre-op diets. Hang in there.

I lost 13 pounds on my pre-op diet, but to my own surprise did cheat a little. When I made a baloney sandwich for my husband I casually ate a slice of it myself, and did it again the next day. I also had probably 3 or 4 pieces of sugar-free hershey's dark chocolate candy during that time. No big deal, and certainly no drama. My surgeon took a picture of my liver because it looked so smooth and shrunken. Go figure. :mad2:

I've cheated on my pre-op diet. I'm on day five and had half of a small steak, no sauce or anything else with it. I did also yesterday eat a can of dry tuna as not to cave and eat the pizza in the house. It is so crazy I knew I was addicted to food but I cant believe how much I wanted that pizza, i couldn't even go in the same room with it. Wow what a reality check.

I think I am doing pretty good. I have lost four pounds in three days and am hoping to lose another two or so before my surgery on monday.

Good luck everyone

Yep, I cheated on my pre-op diet...several times. After the first month on liquids it got harder & harder to deny myself everything. Mostly it was the family dinners in the evening, or a night out with friends, that tested my willpower - during the day I didn't spare the diet much thought.

Will this sabotage my life after the band? Dunno the answer to that. I hope that the band helps with the frequent hunger, my guess is I'll be consuming a few more calories a day & get back some of my favorite (but healthy  foods.

I am on day 2 at 5:30 PM of a 10 day pre-op that consists of about 800 calories from 2 Atkins shakes, 8 ounces of light yogurt, 16 ounces of "no sugar added" juice (tomato or apple), 16 ounces of chicken or beef broth, and unlimited sugar free Jello and diet drinks ( Arizona diet green tea and diet rite cola).

Yesterday I had 506 calories and so far today I have had 259 calories.

I have had no interest in cheating and have not felt starved, yet. I was at 433 and lost 46 in the last 2 years since taking a diuretic along with lisinipril for high blood pressure. So, I have a long way to go. Damn, I wish this device was available when I was a younger man. I did not get to where I am now by proving that I am a successful dieter.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
