I did not cheat at all. I had major nausea, vomiting and headache an entire day and waited on call back from my Dr. before doing anything away from the guidelines. I guess some people take certain things more seriously. I figured, that my Dr. knows exactly what I need to do to have a smooth operation & recovery as well as successful weight loss. There is no way I would do anything at all to deviate from the diet, and possibly sabotage my surgery or success. Not placing blame or preaching from a soap box, just that I'm serious about this and not eating for a few days is just something I have to do, no questions or variations.

By the way, my surgery was "textbook" as my surgeon described it, I've had absolutely no gas pain (knock on wood) and 2 days post op feel great (aside from port pain)!

NO i did not cheat at all, i valued my life too much, i wasnt prepared to gamble my life on the operating table for a cheated piece of food

Stick to what ever your surgeons tell you its so important, Dont cheat, this is a 2nd lease of life, use it wisely

I am practicing the liquid/low carb diet, and I was successful for around two weeks until I took last weekend off and ate, uh, sourdough bread...

doing well, on the diet again today.

im on the preop diet now 7 days and im starved. i feel foggy and weird all the time. i HAVE NOT cheated at all, but i think i am going to have a fresh cheeseburger w/onions, mushrooms, mayo lettuce and Tomato and pickles about 2 nights before the surgery because that is what i am craving and i may not ever be able to eat that again. it's not going to screw up my surgery. im still thinking (or should i say dreaming) about it...im starving

It seems that when I am hungriest is just before it's time for me to have a "meal." I'm on a two week full liquid pre op diet, and my surgery is this Tuesday. It's interesting that I'm not craving sweets, which has always been the thing I wanted most, but iI want meat, chicken especially, or a hot dog, or roast, and things smell soooo goooood! Sometimes I feel sad, but then I focus on why I'm doing this.

I cheated very little with healthy and unhealthy foods - mainly I did not drink all the Protein Drinks I should have - I just got sick of the taste - my cheating choice is not on the poll --

I am on day 12 of my 15 day preop diet. It consists of three Protein Shakes a day. I am so sick of the taste! About halfway thru, i did cheat with a 1oz piece of fish. I physically needed something, and i think if i hadnt made a healthy choice i would have cheated with sometime bad.

i cant believe i will be banded on weds~~~

I too will be banded on Wednesday! I was on a 14 day Optifast diet, but it made me horrible ill. I lasted 4 days on it and then I had the worst diarreha of my life (TMI...sorry) anyhow, the doctor then moved me to clear liquid for 2 days, then to low fat, low carb for 2 days, and then back to clear liquid the last 5 days. I am DYING! I'm not sure who can survive on chicken stock, popsicles, fat free sugar free pudding, and Water but it is not this fat chick. I can't wait for this to be over.

I never figured I would say this, but I can't wait to eat over cooked broccoli and oatmeal. I have cheated a bit by eating 3 pieces of pepperoni off my kids' pizza and 3 cheetos in the last 2 days but overall I think I will be fine....I hope!

if my children were still young it would be so much harder to do this lap band - I cheated some and did fine during surgery - you will be able to eat a cheeseburger but it may be the dollar cheeseburger at Sonic - it is not like a kid's meal burger - it is just like the reg burger only way smaller and it is all you can eat - I get the dollar fries also and only eat about 7 of them- and I am full - I eat about 2/3's of the burger but it feels like I ate the real thing - this is the best thing I have done

I am on day three of the nine day liquid diet and I so want to blow it and go to Burger King, but I'm not going to. I want the surgery to go well and not have the possibility of the surgeon cancelling. I am drinking chicken broth and that is helping my craving for something salty. I am sick already of the sweet shakes and Jello.< /p>

A friend had given me some of his leftover medifast packages:eek:. they suck,

but i read somewhere in the literature to try mixing it with either apple or white grape juice. what a difference.:) give it a shot, so much better.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
