It occurred to me last night that maybe I need a small fill. Maybe that old food is going down a bit too easy.

I thought I was at my sweet spot but maybe not. I'll call them today.

Could be very likely you need a fill (and patience :lol:). Sometimes too I need to get out the measuring spoons etc. and make sure my 'eyeballed' portions haven't grown too big. What used to look like 4oz easily grows into 8 oz though I still log it on dailyplate as 4oz and stuff like that. I like Nancy's thought too about wrinkles. Will have to remember that as the scale isn't moving. I'm hoping for fill number 2 on Wed. and hope that helps!

As far as sippy cups go ("sappy" cups) -

Mine all went the way of garage sales.

I'm making resolutions to treat myself much better from now on -

NO MORE food IN FRONT OF THE TV

(or at the PC or in the car or on the bed or over the sink)

No ma'am.

I'm going to eat at a table with flowers from the yard (if available)

A lovely candle.

China (probably a saucer)

and an awkward champagne flute (I have to retrain myself in the art of sipping.)

I always had big long plateaus too. I think it is your body adjusting to the new weight. It probably gets scared that it's going to disappear so it wants time to get used to the idea. The scale will move again, as long as you don't get frustrated and do the old thinking "I am not losing anyway, so I might was well eat_______(some sort of junk)

hi fities I am new to all this and not really sure how to use my laptop so bear with me please. I was banded on 4/17/08 I've had 1 fill and had to go back to the dr next morning, couldnt swallow my own saliva! I've lost 22 lbs since surgery, is this normal? also warm Fluid is the only thing in the morning that will go down help

Welcome to the site and to our 50's thread. I wanted to let you know you are not alone. I have to have a cup of hot tea first thing in the morning before my protien shake or it won't go down very well. 22 lbs sounds about right...you are doing well. Sorry about your first fill being too much.

the coffee mugs with the lids are great. besides holding larger quantities than a sippy cup, they look so much more adult. Except for the one I have that has the 7 dwarfs on it, but it is black and just outlines of the characters LOL :)

I am back on track.. and feeling better, realize my band is actually working. had really moist tuna with crackers for lunch and only was able to eat about 75% of the total amount that I had prepared. So feeling good that I felt restriction....I weigh at my pcp this evening and am anxious to see how I faired over my vacation last week.

Considering that we are embarking on a new life, maybe the sippy cup with cartoon characters is appropriate for us...

Miss Piggy would be fun for me... In her most glamourous gown and tiara... or riding costume with crop... hmmm

Hello everyone and hope your day is going well. Like Joann I'm not band and not sure when I will be since my appointments have been 2 months apart. I have appointment in Sept to see the ARNP hoping I'm at the tail end as I am ready to me banded,

If your looking for Sippy Cup with nothing on it go to targets I have had some when granddaughter was younger. There sell from that are really tall to.

woohoo.... just got back from my pcp's office. down 2.5# since my last fill. which is good since I gained about 2#after my fill before leaving on vacation. So I guess I did better than I thought while out of town.

And I am really feeling my restriction from the fill on 7/10. before now it really didn't seem like it was doing anything.

Sadie: I sympathize with you. That is how my body seems to lose weight----lose a pound or 2 or 3, plateau for a few weeks. It is frustrating, but the scales do go down and we have to be patient and stick with it. The worst thing we can do is give up. Remember, even if it goes off slowly, with our good eating habits and the band, we will not regain this weight we are (so slowly) losing. Besides, you have done really well, and you will continue to do this well until you reach your goal.

BTW, I am in day 3 of the pouch test, recording what I eat (as usual on myplate), and still haven't lost another ounce. I will persevere and eventually, it will come off.

Think of this: if we lose too easily, at our age, we would get massive wrinkles, as our skin is not as resilient as it was when we were teenagers. So, a slow loss is probably more aesthetically appealing for most of us. Aaah, I'm trying here to see the positive in the Looooong journey I am on.

Good luck to all. To the new bandsters: hang in there. It gets better every day (especially when the scales drop!).

The pouch test is really just a way to get your weight loss going again. It's also supposed to help if you have stretched your pouch from overeating.

I just got back from seeing the PA after twelve days post op. I lost 12lbs since I saw them on June 28th. Most of it was from the liquid diet pre op. I told her I couldn't do five shakes a day.....that I was doing three shakes and two pureed foods. She was fine with it. I get my first fill on the 21st of next month. Can't wait. She said I would get some restriction. I guess I am entering the "bandster hell" phase. I hope I can keep it to 700 calories a day.:eek:

I'm doing the pouch test to "jumpstart" my weight loss. I know I lose in spurts of a pound or two or so and then stall for up to 2 weeks (yikes), but I thought it couldn't hurt. Today was day 3 and I had tuna, cottage cheese and tilapia....not too bad. Tomorrow is ground beef and shellfish. I do feel restriction, so I know that works. Maybe I just need to keep myself from being bored....:eek:

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
