Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories

Weight loss surgery success stories. Share your milestones, before and after photos, and non-scale victories.

  1. Hello everyone. I hit my 3 month surgiversary (5-14-12) this Monday. I was down 75# (including Pre-op) and as of this morning it is 76#. I am down from 335# to 259#. I am really excited that I have met several short term goals over the last few weeks. 1. I have made it to Twooterville 2. To weigh less than I did when I got married (275#) and as of this morning 3. To weigh less than my husband (260) Hoot! Hoot! My next short term is: 4. To weigh less than when I graduated high school (250#) I am also enjoying some NSVs. I am still off of all my pre-op meds (21), the fibromyalgia is doing great (small 2 day flare this week, 1st one since surgery) and I don't use the c…

So last night I went to a concert. I can slowly feel my self-esteem growing as my weight goes down. For so long I hated going out and hated taking pictures. My weight loss is slow but I am feeling great. Joined the Y and I'm loving exercising, water Zumba is definitely my favorite!!! Anyway yesterday went to shop at Marshalls to buy a dress for the concert and I didn't have to shop in the plus sizes. I am so happy because my discount stores such as Marshall and TJ Maxx have horrible choices in plus size. I brought my dress in the regular section and it's a large. It's funny because I continued to pick out really large clothes to try on and they were too big. When I did tr…

My hubby and I are bikers, Bikers for Christ members to be exact. I had surgery 3/19/12 I've list 27 lbs so far, I have no restriction yet, just cut out carbs. Anywho, my man told me today that he could tell I'm losing weight because my stomach used to be against his back and now he doesn't feel it. WooHoo, thats even more awesome being as its summertime and it feels so good to have some air between us. C:

  4. Sunday I became the Mrs. to my best friend! The day was everything I could ever want thanks to my VSG surgery 8 months ago. I was able to hold my head up high, have energy for the days events, and actually feel like a pretty bride instead of an embarrassed-about-my-weight bride. My new husband deserves the best me I can give him and I feel like this surgery is allowing me to offer that. Thank you to all the people on this forum who have shared their experiences, offered support, and cheered for me along the way. Oh Happy Day!!!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has shared their stories and problems. I had my operation 4/25/12. I had no pain or discomfort but I did have some very emotional days after surgery. I found out I was not alone and what I was going through was normal. This is the best support anyone can get and I encourage those who have not had their operation to read the post daily...you will find an answer to your question. Thanks again and best of luck to everyone!

Hello fellow lapbanders!!! As of next week I'm four years out. It took me a long time to get here but I'm very proud of my journey here is a pic I took yesterday. If I had to do it over again- I would without a doubt chose the band again. Although my journey has been slow, it's been worth it every step of the way. I have a new life, a new perspective and a new body. I thank all of the bansters who came before me to share their personal stories. I can't say whether or not I'm at a numbered goal- I stopped making those goals because they were making me crazy. Today I just live, I eat good food and I do a bit of exercise and get out of my own head as often as possible and …

THANKS everyone for coming together here and supporting me and each other. I have found so much useful information here. Starting at a lower BMI, I faced some negative reactions to this surgery (i also dont flaunt having sleep apnea and PCOS) and your encouragement and same stories makes me know this was the right choice. So Thank you all.

I had my lapband installed in 2009. In the first couple of months I felt it was a success. I lost 30 lbs. I suffered from acid reflux most of my adult life and the lapband "CURED" that, so that part of it is good. Since that first 30 lbs I have been unable to lose any more weight. I'm 6' 2" tall, and my weight fluctuates between 300 and 310. I eat small portions and get full quickly, I can't get adjusted down any more than I am because I'm already eating small amounts and I sometimes have to throw up because I get plugged up easily. I don't drink soda, I drink coffee and Water mostly. I did join a gym in December and I go once in awhile. Before the band I was s…

  11. I am very glad I had the Lap Band Surgery in September 2011. My weight loss has been slow and, but in the final analysis, I am 55lbs lighter than I was a year ago! In what universe would I NOT BE HAPPY to loose 55 lbs in a year. I read so many forum posts where people are literally expecting so much that they are unhappy with significant weight loss, but it has slowed down, or they are no longer loosing 4 pounds a week like in the first weeks after surgery. The nasty secret about loosing weight is that once you loose a sizable amount of weight (whether you think it is good or not), your body adjusts, your calorie requirements just maintain your new weight go down, …

It's been six months since my surgery. I have had two fills. I have lost 109 pounds. I have gained so much more than I thought possible. Sure, I still have the same stressors that comes with living, but being ashamed of my weight is no longer one of them. People tell me I have gotten taller. I'm not so sure about that, but I do stand prouder and more confidently with my head held tall. I have fun with clothing now, even though I do limit number of garments I buy since I don't wear them for very long. My daughters are having issues because I am no longer the fat momma they are familiar with. I told them to get over it and share my joy. I would have the surgery ag…

Ok, so at 22mths post op I am still not at goal... and I am still obese... but you know what... photos don't lie! I am attatching two pics; fir from May 2010 at my heaviest 238lbs and the second from May 2012 at my current weight of 165lb. Like I said, I am 14-24lbs away from goal and still obese... so work this out! Now, I don't want to sound cocky but I think I am looking ok in the second one... I absolutely hate the first one, and this is one of my 'better' pre op pictures! Those of you out there who aren't at goal or in the stall from hell, I hope that seeing these pics help you to realise that the scale and the BMI are JUST numbers and there is more to…

I don't hurt everywhere all the time, I can climb the stairs to my office without sounding like I'm dying when I reach the top landing, I don't feel ashamed or guilty about my eating. I am actually starting to like me a lot more than I have in a very long time. Ok folks, we all come on these boards to share, help, get support, and generally interact in a world where we know most people totally get where we are coming from right? So I would like to propose we do a thread that inspires newbies and reminds us all why we are doing this. Can you share your best post-surgical experience? I will start with one of my favourite most memorable ones: It was the second Summer after my surgery. The previous Summer I had lost most of the weight and I was at a size 14. The second summer I pulled out the big box of Summer clothing and began to unpack it. I remember getting ready to try on the clothing and had that familiar feeling of dread.…

My life has changed so much in the year since my surgery. Some of it was expected but most of it was not. My story started about a year and a half ago with the death of my mother. She died as a result of a life long battle with obesity. She was 54 years old when she died at 325 lbs. I watched her struggle with her weight and all of the comorbidities for my entire life. I struggled with being overweight my entire childhood, teens, and now my twenties. As an ICU nurse, I knew it was only a matter of time before I had diabeties, high blood pressure and heart disease that killed my mother. She passed away in November and I started researching VSG in January. I realiz…

  28. I received a two year anniversary notice along with a 57th birthday greeting from administrators of this site and thought I'd actually wander by to say hello. This is only the second post I've made but it is a happy one for me. In two years I have dropped from 240 pounds to 160 pounds, twelve pounds away from my goal weight. Two years ago I wrote a feature story for the local newspaper about the lap bander who was currently the Poster Girl for the local hospital's weight management program. Two months ago my surgeon, Todd Beckstedt, asked if I would allow the weight management program to use my pictures in their advertising program. I've enjoyed my fifteen minutes of…

  30. Well guys, it was exactly one year ago today when I sat down for my first meeting with my RNY surgeon. I must say this year went by with blinding speed. When I look back on that first meeting it seems like it was five minutes ago. And what a journey it has been. One year ago today I was scared. My health was declining. I knew that my food addiction was shortening my life. And drastically reducing the quality of the time I had left. I wondered if I would ever see my grandson graduate high school, much less college and starting his own career and family. And yes, I was worried about the very scary decision to have major surgery to correct a disease that many would argue I…

It has taken me two years and two months to get to this place and it is worth every minute of the struggle. My BMI is normal, my arthritis pain is vastly improved, the sleep apnea is gone, my knees don't threaten to give way at odd times, I can get on my horse without a mounting block, and I can sit with my knees pulled to my chest without gasping for air. I've heard a few people note how often people post with issues but not nearly often enough about their success. Those people were right, and those of who are having success with the band need to post our stories. People need to see the good as much, if not more, than the bad. Today, when I was driving my son to school, I realized my car seat position just wasn't working anymore. I smiled, because I remembered how just four short months ago my tummy was literally pressed against the steering wheel when I drove. Now, despite the fact I lowered the steering wheel (tilt steering) and I've moved my seat up- I still have at least 8 inches between my tummy and the steering…

  45. Over the weekend, I realized that my weight loss really has changed my opinion of myself. Something that would once have hurt me and caused me to cry in a corner with a box of Oreos just made me shrug and go "Meh." On Friday, my fiancé, who is an art teacher, was dealing with a student who is nothing but trouble. He's been pushing all the teachers' buttons and is defiant and obnoxious. He acts out constantly and seems to relish in the fact that he is generally despised by all the staff. Anyway, he found a new way to get my fiancé's goat by picking up a picture of me and him on vacation before I was banded and making comments about my weight. Supposedly my fiancé almos…

Just to say that after my major weight loss in 2008, I've kept a consitant weight, mainly through the changes I made to my lifestyle, including exercise, eating high quality foods and maintaining personal responsibility for my body. Having a lapband for me was the start of a journey that will never end. It's effects have enabled me to be functional, much healthier and fitter and just more alive. I'm convinced that people can succeed in the Quest to lose weight, and I wish everyone great success and best wishes. Kind Regards, Steve

Some of my major concerns pre-surgery were that I might somehow develop an aversion to food or the smell of food, and that I might no longer like or want to keep up the family dinner traditions given that I would be limited in partaking thereof. Along comes Mother's Day, 8 weeks out... We traditionally have the first big cookout of the year on Mother's Day, with all the kids and grandkids in attendance. We prepared the traditonal list of grilled goodies, such as cheeseburgers, hot dogs, brats with all the fixins' such as chili sauce, kraut, corn on the …

After a few weeks of plateauing at 200-201, I have now finally made it to One-derland! It feels so good to see the scale reading start with a 1 again!!! I might be able to fit into the smaller dress (I bought 2 sizes just in case) for my sisters wedding next month!!! WOOHOO!!!

Think it would be wonderful if I got sick every time I ate refined sugar! It's a major weakness of mine and i think this would help. Remind me why I don't want rny?
