Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

Glad to hear everyone is doing pretty good.

I'm one week out and have lost 18 lbs. Very happy about that. I have my Post-op Doctors appt. thursday (11-6). And might do a little shopping after that.

Not to much to say, I'm a couple days into the Full liquids phase, sure glad to get out of the Clear Liquids phase.

I have gone for two different walks and yesterday almost over did it. I came home and sat in my chair & fell asleep for maybe one hour.

Untill next time,

Don

I will have my first fill on 11/14. How long does that take? It will be at the hospital. I need to work later that day so I am wondering if you feel ok after as well as how long it takes. Although I am following the prescribed diet, I find that I am not feeling full as I did the first couple of weeks. Is that normal?

I think it's very normal. The swelling is going down. There is very little to No liquid in your band. So everything should be passing through your stoma (pouch) easily.

Once you get your fill you should feel the restriction. But, lots of people say it takes them 2 to 3 times to get the right restriction.

I am freaking starving to death. My Doctor told me to try thicker stuff to fill the stoma. My Bariatric Coordinator told me to drink another Protein Drink.< /p>

I think the fills are pretty pain free, except for the lidocaine. That stuff freaking burns like FIRE! But, it doesn't burn once you go numb. Just like getting a novacaine shot at the Dentist.

But you don't drool afterwards, right? Haha

I was banded the day before you and the first week I only lost 5 pounds and did not eat you dont have as much weight to loose as others who knows what thei preop diet was and everyone is different It took me almost 3 days to loose what I gained back during surgery and then I lost about a pound or so a day and too didnt get to eat yet. Give your body time and you are doing great.

I feel like im in the same boat here. I was banded on 10/27 and have only lost 7 lbs, but I told my dr. on Monday that I was starving. I have started eating high Protein foods like fish and small amounts of chicken. I am just staying hungry, but I am eating small amounts of everything. Any suggestions? I go for my first fill 12/9

It all depends on how much you have to lose. I was banded the day before you and I have lost ~10lbs since surgery, but I also have more lbs to lose than you. Someone who had less lbs to lose may only lose 2 or 3 lbs in the same amount of time.

Don't get down girls!

MOST people are counting their pre-op weight lose too. Me included! I am evening counting the weight I lose when I started a healthy lifestyle back in August.

I weighed 296 on October 21st the day of my Surgery. I weighted 291 (Fully Clothed w/ Jeans!!!) @ my two week checkup. So I only lost 5 lbs after my surgery.

I weighted today and my scale said I was 283. I was naked though! I'm counting it! So that makes 51lbs for me total.

Thanks for replying guys! I guess you are right I was just reading how wonderful you all were doing and started to get nervous!! ;-) I am better today but I did not weigh myself. I figure I will do it once a week or when I can't stand it anymore and have to know what the darn number is. :smile2:

Today is day 7 for me... 2 more weeks of liquids..

Keep up the good work on your end!!

Thanks again for your encouragement!! I really do appreciate it!

MJ :tongue2:

My weight's been up and down through the TOM . After TOM, I was at -16.5 and then gained 5 but HOWWW if I was only on liquids. Then somehow miraculously, I got on the scale today and am -17 in 3 weeks. But I have a LOT to lose!!! My two cents.

Don't sweat the numbers, y'all!! My ticker is including all of the weight I've lost since I started my healthy lifestyle in August. :) It helps me to see the whole picture.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
