March 2022 Surgery Buddies

  • Popular Post

Hey Guys! So I have a date (again), it's March 8th - meaning my 2 week "liquid" diet will start Feb 22.

The short month of February makes me feel like I've been granted a shortcut somehow! Who else has a date for March??

  • Congratulations to all the March surgery dates. I was March 9 last year and boy what a year it has been so far. I am currently stuck at about 9 pounds from goal. I may have to add in more exercise to

  • Got a March 17th date a couple of weeks ago. Very excited and nervous. And very hopefully it doesn't get postponed for one reason or another. That would be so disheartening at this point.

  • Mindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feel

If you didn’t know this (I didn’t) your doctor should be able to arrange for you to get fluids as an out patient. I was worried I would have to go back to hospital. Well technically I did go back to the building but to a different part

Yes, my doctor arranged for me to go to the outpatient clinic. Thank you

I had surgery on March 5th, and I'm struggling so much!!! I'm having a tough time getting enough fluids down. I will have to obtain a Fluid IV infusion because I'm dehydrated. I'm barely eating food because I'm trying to get fluids in.

I feel like everyone is so confident in their decision to have surgery, but I'm starting to regret it. I know it's supposed to get easier, and I hope so because I can't imagine living like a this

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you tried mixing protein with your water so that at least you're getting both at the same time? It might help you to get two birds with one stone. I hope you start feeling better soon!

Good luck to those having surgery this week! We look forward to hearing your stories.

My procedure was on the 8th. I gained 7 pounds in the hospital from the fluids so needless to say, I felt like a stuffed turkey! I was able to get most of my fluid, protein, and carbs. Today I feel pretty much like normal. I’ve been reading everyone’s posts. Sounds like most are doing well.

Have any of you been given a calorie goal for after surgery?

March 1st here. After the surgery and readmission I didn't sleep much that first week. I've been sleeping 12+ hours since I got home, making up for the sleep a person doesn't get in the hospital. The incision itchies are almost gone and my abdomen is looking better every day. Adhesive reactions are a pain! I have a follow up with my surgeons nurse practitioner on Tuesday and the dietitian on Wednesday. I've lost about 9 pounds so far which is a major surprise considering all the IV fluids and steroids I had. Saturday the poop damn broke loose and that's where I've lost most of the weight.

Fluids have been no problem and I'm now able to start thickening up some liquids. I've totally blended soups and they tasted sooooooooo good. I'm totally over the taste of protein drinks so I've been doing a fair amount of Fairlife skim milk, yummy!

I go back to work tomorrow evening. I do some light janitorial work and tomorrow night's account only takes about 1-1.5 hours.

My post op diet book says:
Protein drinks and clear liquids: 400-500
Blended foods: 600-700
Soft foods:700-900

Oh that is very helpful. Thank you!
Covid test negative! Next stop, surgery!! I am getting anxious. I need to pack my hospital bag. Surgery is Wednesday so I still have time but dang this is getting real.

Hey everyone so I had my sleeve on March 7th this past Monday and I must say that I was not expecting the level of pain im in. There are a lot of challenges im facing right now that im just uncertain about and im only one week in. I have a call with the DOC in the morning and hopefully we can get to the bottom of some of this. I haven't had a bowel movement since the surgery and each day my fluid intake is less and less. Im trying to force fluids down causing super sharp pains and my body just doesn't want it. Anyone who has been through this, can you please tell me what you did and how you got through. Thanks. And good luck for all those March people going in..

I can’t help with the pain or the getting fluids in but I used milk of magnesia to help me with the constipation. I then took soluable fiber daily to keep me regular without the meds.

Hi everyone! I'm new here with a March 15th surgery date. I'm self-pay with Dr. Shillingford in Boca Raton, FL. It's all happening pretty fast after having spent years and years researching. My insurance specifically excludes all bariatric procedures. I'm super nervous but also super excited to begin the next chapter of my life.

Good luck on your surgery. I'm also having the Sleeve surgery with Dr. S in May so would love to hear your feedback. I'm sure you'll do well!!
