  1. I know I'm writing this after you've had your surgery but I wanted to add my experience. After my bypass I had a lidocaine IV drip which is a medication similar to what's in the On-Q. I had very little pain after surgery. My mom just had a knee joint replacement surgery 3 days ago and has an On-Q device. She's only taken 4 small doses of any narcotic since the day of surgery. No more citrus ever?

I'm thinking it has to do with acid. The acidity can worsen reflux which sleeves are prone to. Sent from my SM-A135U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  4. I have severe GERD and associated damage, no regain. Approval took 9 calendar days. Surgery is March 1st! My surgeon is having me do her 10 day pre op diet so I have that to look forward to. LOL Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

3.5 weeks post op revision to bypass for severe GERD, down 14 pounds, which I'm super thrilled about! In the past couple of days I've started to feel fairly normal physically. The biggest mind trip is getting full on 2 oz of deli meat. If I eat any more than that I feel miserable. No problems getting my fluids in. I went back to work last week and felt good but this week I can tell I'm back to full strength. I even started walking on the track at the adults only community center I joined (and health insurance pays for). The Y has a track too but it's always sooooo loud and busy. 6. Friday afternoon I got the phone call that my surgery was approved by insurance and was given a March 1st surgery date. The wait is longer than I expected but it makes sense since my surgeon needs more time to complete the bypass (revising from sleeve due to GERD) and a hiatal hernia repair. Financially it works out better for me too. It gives me time to pay some extra on bills since I'll be out for 2+ weeks. Between now and surgery day Inhave lots of appointments for labs, dietitian, pre-op physical with my PCP, and a huge appointment with my bariatric nurse and then a 1 hour appointment with my surgeon and another endoscopy. I get to do my surgeon's 10 day pre-op diet again. This is bringing back a lot of memories from when I had the sleeve 7 years ago. The post op diet has changed during that time. Food texture progression is much slower this time. I think that will be good though. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post op day 4 complications

I almost called the on call surgeon again a couple days ago because I hadn't pooped since the hospital despite 2 times a day colace and a couple doses of milk of magnesia. BUT it's like there was a plug that got unplugged then BAM the poop damn was broken and I lost 5+ pounds. Since then my gut has been making all kinds of fun sounds (a good thing). I read through the ER and CT scan reports. Uh, yeah, scary stuff, my gut was seriously messed up!! My surgeon did say that the long term damage of the acid on my esophagus is going to take 6+ months to heal. Right now it either spasms or doesn't contract at all. I see my surgery team Tuesday afternoon and then my dietitian Wednesday. I had a small serving of mashed potatoes tonight and YUMMMMMMM. I feel comfortably full. Wednesday morning I have some follow up testing for another medical issue discovered around 6 months ago. I had an abnormal mammogram and some abnormal lymph nodes. The CT scan I had showed multiple enlarged lymph nodes but nothing that looks worrisome. My surgeon took out a funny looking lymph node during surgery that was enlarged but benign. My primary doc thinks enlarged lymph nodes may just be my normal. Lord knows I don't need more crud to deal with.

BMI of 29.something I had a conversion of sleeve to bypass due to severe GERD. My insurance process was super easy, the nurse reviewer took one look at the documentation and then called my team with approval. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

March 1st here. After the surgery and readmission I didn't sleep much that first week. I've been sleeping 12+ hours since I got home, making up for the sleep a person doesn't get in the hospital. The incision itchies are almost gone and my abdomen is looking better every day. Adhesive reactions are a pain! I have a follow up with my surgeons nurse practitioner on Tuesday and the dietitian on Wednesday. I've lost about 9 pounds so far which is a major surprise considering all the IV fluids and steroids I had. Saturday the poop damn broke loose and that's where I've lost most of the weight. Fluids have been no problem and I'm now able to start thickening up some liquids. I've totally blended soups and they tasted sooooooooo good. I'm totally over the taste of protein drinks so I've been doing a fair amount of Fairlife skim milk, yummy! I go back to work tomorrow evening. I do some light janitorial work and tomorrow night's account only takes about 1-1.5 hours. Sent from my Z5157V using BariatricPal mobile app

The swelling that caused an obstruction is opening up thanks to the hospital treatments. I got the horrible NG tube out this morning. I also had a bowel movement this evening. It's looking like I'll go home to my kitties tomorrow. Sent from my moto g pure using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I'm home!! Surgery went well, but I had to stay an extra day because my new pouch was quite swollen and I had a ton of drainage in the drain my surgeon put in my abdomen. The only narcotic I got the whole time there was 1 oxycodone the evening after surgery. Otherwise I was given timed non-narcotic pain meds that worked great! I'm on them (Tylenol and Flexeril) for another few days. And because constipation is so common I'm on Colace twice a day for 30 days. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

The final countdowns have begun for me. After 5pm only clear liquids, at 6pm I'll call the scheduling line and get my arrival time, then I'll take a shower with the special soap and put the nausea patch on. Then it's chill time with my kitties until we go to bed. I need to wake up about 2.5 hours before arrival time to drink a 20 ounce full sugar Gatorade then take another special soap shower. Yes! I know that feeling so well. I'm not anxious at all, just super excited to get rid of this damn GERD! My hospital goes through great lengths to make sure patients are super comfortable. I had another surgery a few months ago (darn IUD decided to burrow into my uterus) and everyone and everything was awesome. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Mine came back negative! Just a little over 2 days for me. I should be home the next day. Although I wouldn't be surprised if I stayed an extra day due to swelling. When I had my sleeve I had to have a big dose of steroids due to my sleeve swelling so much it took a very long time for liquids to get through when they did a leak test the next morning. January Surgery buddies

I have 2 distinct parts to my job. With the standard cleaning portion with no heavy mop buckets I can go back to work 2 weeks after surgery. But I also deliver cleaning by supplies and because I need to lift 30-40 pounds the recovery time is around 4 maybe 6 weeks Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    January Surgery buddies

I'm crossing my fingers for a January date for my hernia repair and sleeve to bypass revision. Once insurance approves it will only be a few weeks. I'll hear from insurance by Christmas, it will be a very merry Christmas for me! I had my sleeve 7 years ago right before Thanksgiving. Sadly I developed some nasty GERD that has caused severe damage to my esophagus, as well as developed a large hiatal hernia. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. My pre-op appointment was also 2 hours. 1 hour with the surgeon going over all the risks and benefits and alternatives. Then an hour with the coordinator going over what will happen right before and after surgery.

    psych eval mmpi2

Some depression and anxiety are ok. If you're so depressed that you can't get out of bed most days then it's probably not in your best interest to have surgery until the depression is treated. With the MMPI2 they are looking for evidence of severe mental illness that will interfere with a persons ability to follow through with what's needed to be successful after surgery. The test has 250+ questions and seems repetitive but it's designed that way to check for consistency in answers. The test is also designed to detect if people are faking good. I've taken it twice, but not during this process.
