March 2022 Surgery Buddies

  • Popular Post

Hey Guys! So I have a date (again), it's March 8th - meaning my 2 week "liquid" diet will start Feb 22.

The short month of February makes me feel like I've been granted a shortcut somehow! Who else has a date for March??

  • Congratulations to all the March surgery dates. I was March 9 last year and boy what a year it has been so far. I am currently stuck at about 9 pounds from goal. I may have to add in more exercise to

  • Got a March 17th date a couple of weeks ago. Very excited and nervous. And very hopefully it doesn't get postponed for one reason or another. That would be so disheartening at this point.

  • Mindful Moment: I'm feeling all kinds of emotions today. It's this weird mix of fear, anxiety, elation, resolve, focus, and super-charged anticipation of my future self all at once. If you may be feel

RNY was yesterday. It was rough yesterday during the day but yesterday evening until now, I have been feeling great. Lots of walks around the nurses station and lots of water. The broth is freakin amazing too.
The walks and water will help make recovery go faster! Keep up the good work.

My surgery was supposed to be tomorrow. My 2 week modified-liquid went great. I was down the 25 pounds my surgeon wanted. I took the required Covid test yesterday and failed! I'm feeling fine, just a minor cold, but the surgery has been put off until June 21. I'm completely devastated. Very sad not to be joining the rest of you March surgery buddies. I'm not sure what the next 90+ days will bring.

I'm so sorry to hear this, such a long wait. I hope you recover quickly

First time in over a week I've had any cravings. I think because it's because I realized, after the call from the hospital today, how close I am, and how I'm going to have to have to commit the long haul from here on out to cutting certain foods from my diet. I'm not even craving sweets (blame the protein drinks lol) but a nice bowl of buttery popcorn lol. Ugh. Carbs are my downfall. Always have been.

Oh, that's my kryptonite. I know I'll be able to have it again someday in a modest, reasonable portion, but I sure do miss the buckets of it I used to cram into my mouth! LOL

I had a sf popsicle instead

Let the food funerals commence! Without ruining your progress thus far, of course.

Day 2 of post op. Feeling pretty good. I just have on incision that is swollen and painful but that’s it. Water intake and protein intake have been going well. I came home yesterday.

Just clocked out of work for the last time. Got final physician approval yesterday and all systems are go for Monday.

Pre-op liquid/protein bar diet has not been bad. Not much hunger except late in the day, but been supplementing with some broth and sugar free jello and ice pops.

One week off after surgery, followed by one week of computer-based training at work where I'll get to take it easy.

I just started my soft food/puree stage yesterday. I had scrambled egg, tuna w/mayo, scrambled egg with finely chopped deli smoked turkey and american cheese. I'm still deciding on dinner tonight. I am supposed to have 2 shakes and 2 meals per day to ease into the food. So far so good. I think I ate a touch too much of my egg/turkey/cheese combo today but it tasted really good. Probably had one or two bites too much. I did not throw up but my stomach felt very full.

I'm set for Monday too.

Hi all I go in Monday for surgery so excited a little nervous but not too bad. I’m starting liquid diet tomorrow and Sunday. Any useful tips I be grateful. So happy it’s here doesn’t seem possible. I had it postponed due to the pandemic and had to start from scratch again with classes and all.

Anyone on the puréed stage yet? If so how’s it going and what’re you eating?

I've been on purees for five days now. It's going great, except when I push the limits. (For example, scrambled egg is fine but hard-boiled, even well chewed, was a big nope for now.) I whizzed up some mild chili in the food processor, so that's tasty and easy. My favorite so far is ricotta bake. The weirdest part for me is learning to think of 1/4 cup of food as a meal, and waiting two minutes between pea-sized bites.

I can’t seem to get enough water. I am excessively thirsty and I haven’t even had the surgery yet. The only thing that has changed is I’m on the high protein low carb pre op diet. I’m drinking at least 64 oz of water per day and I’m still dry mouth, lips, and literally craving water.

I am slowly advancing myself to the puree stage a day or so early. Yesterday, I had a sweet and spicy tuna packet - tolerated well. Then I got carried away and ate small bits of watermelon, apparently too fast. Because restriction hit and I was so uncomfortable. I couldn't eat another bite of anything for the rest of the night. I couldn't even handle water. I am going to love this! I was so uncomfortable but I never want my pouch to expand beyond what it is now.

So I won't be doing that again. But I did go buy some real crab meat (I am craving crab legs like no other), imitation crab meat, salmon, perch, all stuff for ricotta bake, tuna packets, chicken salad packets (these packets are perfect for on the go). I'm so excited to eat today. I've also ordered Unjury pre-made protein shakes. They're tasty and convenient. 8oz serving size has 110 calories and 20g protein.

How are you guys doing on your vitamins? Have you started? I found a huge uptick in my overall energy and feeling when I started taking iron again. I use a liquid supplement called Floradix, 10ml in the AM and 10ml before bed - taken with vitamin C. Then taking my calcium chews throughout the bulk of the day - at least 2 hours apart from the iron. They've also sent me a powerful multi-vitamin and sublingual 500mg tabs of B12.
